Anyone else got the next-gen fever?

Seriously, I find it hard to get excited over any game that is going to be coming out this gen now, after seeing the scope and visuals of next-gen games, coupled with all the nice extras we're gonna get (720p and aa in all games, wireless controllers, wi-fi, media playback etc.), I find it hard to get excited anything that is coming out now.. Everytime I see a current-gen game coming out around fall, I think, damn I wish this was on x360 (moto gp 3 I'm looking at you).

The xbox 360 launch is still quite far away, but I hope MS delivers or I'll be very disappointed. This generation has been great, but I'm sure the next-one will be even better! And it will not be that way just because of the graphics. There are so many possibilities with the new systems that I hope at least a few people will take advantage of it.

i can tell by your avatar

and maybe my opinion toward next gen coming to my doorstep....tomorrow, is represented in my avatar as well

I have the exact same feeling. I was hoping to buy Half-Life 2 on Xbox, but after seeing it in low res in E3, naaah... I wonder if a Xbox 360 version is ever going to happen..?

Not, don't got the fever yet. I will hop over when it's time, of course, but i still get plenty excited by the vast quantity of quality titles that are going to be coming out for current gen systems. More excited, actually, since I know they will be much more polished than anything coming out for the next-gen platforms respective launches.

I'm old-school. Revolutionary concepts can fuck off and die. I like video games, ergo, better video games are what I desire. Gyroscopes and holograms can fuck off. This impending gen-shift rules - a) because the content, poly counts and effects will be geometrically better and b) because Tv technology has actually taken a nicely coincidental step forward too. Otherwise my Gears of War and Killzone 2 would be trapped on a 480i screen.

Not really. I still have a big backlog of PS2 games with a couple Xbox and GC games thrown in there too. Im still content with what we have now. I mean, it will be cool when 360 comes out and all that, but its really not sounding too exciting so far.

no, I'm not a graphics whore.

Next-gen is brining a lot more to the table than just graphics. Well at least I hope it will.

Why does everyone think what's new with next-gen will be just graphics? If graphics are not so important, then why the constant bashing some games get for not looking next-gen enough?

Developers have been basically given 100x cpu power they had this gen. It should be possible to create huge, living worlds the likes of which current gen games could barely touch.
The only bad thing is that everything is gonna cost more.

I do have the fever in the sense that I am constantly searching for tidbits about next-gen systems and games here on GAF. I am still excited about titles like Zelda, Conker, etc. I can't wait till November, but until then I have a backlog of awesome games I haven't gotten to this gen.

As of now (the 360 launch), it's about graphics.

Here's a prime example of this:

Nothing next gen coming this year excites me even remotely as much as prospect of playing SotC or Okami. I kinda doubt PS3 will have anything at launch that interest me either, frankly. The good games would probably start rolling in later in 2006.

I'm looking forward to the next-gen, but not at the expense of the goodness this gen's remaining goodness. A classic is a classic.

With that said, I think once I play next-gen games, current gen games are going to look noticably uglier :(

I'm always excited over new machines. Perhaps that's why I went ahead and even bought a HDTV in preparation of next-gen. I got so excited when the this generation started with DC, I even went out and got a real job. ;)

Anyhow, I guess it's about better graphics in some ways - but I think it's more of having another gadget.

Right now, I am not buying any new games - pretty much because I'm on post RE-4 trauma that no other games, including Winning Eleven, is really satisfying me as much as RE4 did. ;)

No, I miss the big leap for the usual 6 years. You know when people cannot truly say "this looks like a [previous plaform] game". At worst they said "dc game don't look not much better than a psx games".

Then again I understand that we are getting to the point of diminishing returns, so I probably wouldn't be wowed.

Yeah I got the next-gen fever. New game systems should be an exciting time for any gamer. And no, I'm not just excited about graphics, I'm excited about any new hardware in general (why I bought a Nintendo DS).

Nope, in 2007 i think I get fever when there is some real good games to play on them and HDTV sets have become even better equiped and priced. There just too many great rpgs finally coming to PS2 this year for me look at weak rushed next gen launches yet.

i dunno, weve already seen plenty of examples of stuff that just isnt feasible on current gen stuff with the sheer number of interactive objects and characters. that alone is HUGE to me.

Only game I'm looking forward to that we know anything about for next gen is Perfect Dark Zero, and I'm assuming all the problems with the graphics and framerate will be fixed in time.

Seems that damn near everything else announced for next gen is:

A) A racing game!
B) A war game!
C) A first-person shooter!

And... while I realize that PDZ is option C, the first one was my favorite FPS, and I expect there to be the general sense of awesomeness in the prequel that I haven't found in any FPS I've played since.

I guess... 99 Nights looks good too. Then there's that Sakaguchi game, but we've only seen art for it (I think).

There's plenty of games coming out this year on the PC and current systems to keep me busy. Once regular releases start to dry up next year I'll look at the next gen consoles more closely.

Next gen isn't only about better graphics. New consoles always give birth to new franchises.
Good point, but so far my impression of playable next gen has been - exactly same old crap, just in higher resolution and with the same or worse chuggy framerate. You know something is badly wrong when the next gen NFS impresses less than this gen Burnout 4. Unreal 3 engine to the rescue, but framerate is worse than ever under it, it seems. I honestly think the games will somehow have to look like the trailers on Sony's conf with characters like those tech demos to get masses really interested in prospects of next gen gaming. I don't think it's that unreachable either. One of the best looking games (Heavenly Sword) was realtime footage after all.

Don't get me wrong, some games do look very promissing. Heavenly Sword, Alan Wake, Gears of War, I-8, Motor Storm and some others... but I doubt any of that will be ready untill sometime late in 2006.

Right now, I'm actually more excited about hardwares themselves, as my gadget lust is as unsatiable as ever, but the games themselves will take some time to get me impressed.

New hardware is always fun :)

My PSP is getting ALOT of work. And I only play games on it, no movies or mp3s.

Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon? We have some footage from Lost Odyssey, only some art for Blue Dragon to my knowledge though.

I know it's an unfair comment, and you can ignore it if you want, actually. Still doesn't change much how I feel about the games announced so far.

Well if you think about it, gaming has hardly changed from ps1/n64 era, has it? This gen was more of an evolution of concepts established in the ps1/n64 era, with the spread of 3d gaming. Next gen I want to see the perfection of those ideas and some new ideas coming out as well.

it's not about how they look/play now... it's more about how the final product looks when they go gold this holiday season. More than likely, most of the games will improve visually (framerates, details, etc.). It *is* going to feel like next-gen during 360's launch this holiday season. Even you will feel it :D

Is Toriyama involved with both?

I think it was the one Artoon wasn't involved with. Blue Dragon?

Not at all. Most of the games I want over the next 12 months are coming to PS2 and DS...the least powerful console and least powerful of the new handhelds.

Don't get me wrong, there's a bit of a graphic whore in me and I'm looking for a good excuse to get an Xbox 360 this year. But I'll be perfectly satisfied with Zelda, Dragon Quest, Okami, Advance Wars, Castlevania and so forth. Those games have me more excited than any next-gen projects I've seen thusfar.

I probably will, actually I already am, but I more because of the hardwares themselves than because of games coming for those hardwares launches.

I bought a Dreamcast off ebay yesterday, and I got a huge stack of games I haven't played. I'm still pretty wrapped up in this gen.

Not me. I am playing some 16bit/32bit games I missed. I am partly sick of this gen, why would I want next gen? If it is more of the same.

Not until all the BS is filtered and we see REAL fucking games running on REAL fucking hardware will I start anticipating next-gen. Right now it's all about hype, spec wars and pre-alpha machines running at a fraction of what their supposed to.

It's hard to get too excited about new franchises because we still don't know much about the games. We only know bits and pieces from very early revisions. We'll get a better idea come November. :)

Yes. I cant wait to put my HDTV to good use finally. Alot of the games allready announced do things gameplay wise that are not possible on current systems. Full Auto and Dead Rising come to mind but there are a couple others.

I was very excited about next-gen until I saw Perfect Dark Zero screenshots.
Now I'm just at a "moderate" level of excitement.
