Anyone NOT hyped about the next-gen systems? (Yet)

Now, this isn't a rant thread, but is there anyone else that doesn't feel the excitement about this coming gen of games? I own an Xbox, Gamecube, GBA, DS, and now a 360.

So far, my DS has been great, but the 360 has been a letdown, though XBL has made it worth it so far [despite the fact that some of the "better" games have shitty lobby interfaces].

Looking at the [very limited] PS3 stuff we've seen so far, I've become convinced that this next gen is going to be all about graphics and online multiplayer, with a focus that is shifting away from the single-player experience.

And then you have Revolution, which should appeal to me greatly as I want a new experience and really don't care for graphics, but it's already looking like Nintendo is going to have third party problems again, so there goes that.

Anyone else not as hyped for this Gen, as say, last gen, or even the one before that?

I'm really hyped for some upcoming games (Mother 3, Spore, Unreal Tournament 2007, Europa Universalis 3 are some that immediately come to mind) but I'm definitely not very hyped for the Xbox 360 or PS3. I'm sure I will be once some fresh, high-quality games come out that can't really be done on current-gen systems--not graphically, but gameplay-wise. I'm a little hyped about the Revolution, since I know there will be at least one or two guaranteed "killer apps", but there's too little info for me to really be slavering over it.

My interest for playing games the archaic way(360,PS3) is limited.

I now am only interested in the future, and that future is the one platform future of the Revolution.

I mean, who wants to "play" a game with those "old" controllers anymore?

That's like, so, 2000ish.

I'm the same way.

I'm waiting for E3 so I'll know if I can be excited for Revolution or not, or if 360 is going to become more worth it, or if PS3 is going to have worthwhile games for this holiday (and be affordable).

For 200 bucks, Revo is pretty much guaranteed for me, though. Just for legacy games, and a continuation of the fun I've had on DS.

A waning interest in gaming perhaps? I'm just as excited for next gen as I have been for previous gens. I doubt next gen will go towards multiplayer more than single player experience. I'm sure it's just going to be just an optional component of many games.

I'm all up for next gen (got a 360 sitting beside me) but I'm not ready for 60 games. Now that I think of it I should have waited some more till the games gets cheaper.

I'm just hyped because I don't know what Revolution and PS3 are all about. I was kind of hyped for X360 but since it's release, I couldn't be bothered with it. don't know why exactly.

Xbox 360 looks rad, and I would buy it if my school loans weren't tied around my throat. I'm happy with my DS currently, but I know I'll have to stop eating and cut off my electricity to buy whichever nect-gen system VF5 comes out for first.

So it's pixie dust that will provide the electrical power for your next generation console?

I look at PS3 as an upgrade for my PS2. Right out of the box it gives me HD movie capability and hopefully better display quality for PS2 games.

So I'm hyped about getting one at launch.
Then the must have games are just a matter of time...

Worst case scenario there's still about 2 years worth of PS2 games I still need to catch up on.

Yeah, I don't really care yet either. Part of it is probably because I don't have a HDTV yet.

I'm fine right now playing DS and catching up on games from this generation that I've missed. Unlike previous console cycles, I don't really feel an overwhelming curiosity/desire about how graphics will be upgraded this next round, but maybe that will change once I go to E3.

I'm actually going in the other direction and feel like I should be doing more classic gaming lately.

So you're looking forward to playing a bunch of old games with a new controller? :D

I have a 360 and I'm loving it so far, but I'm really, really looking forward to March getting here.

the 360 is nice, but I've yet to get excited about it. I do enjoy it though (in case it's reading this and decides to break down on me tonight, or any night).

Right now I'm more excited by my PS2, DS and PSP than any of the new consoles. 2006 is going to be an awesome year for all 3 of those systems. Even though I'm mostly a Sony guy even the PS3 doesn't have me that excited, after all the BS and low game selection that console launches traditionally bring I can wait at this point.

I'm beginning to get hyped up for the next-gen consoles, but I'm holding off a little bit until the Revolution/PS3 are fully revealed along with some running games. Things ARE looking pretty good though.

The Revolution-controller alone is enough to make the next generation interesting. I don't know if it'll work (although I get a warm feeling when I look at Nintendo's work at the DS-side of things) but the idea is revolutionairy enough to make the business feel alive for the next years.

Same here.

More than anything else, though, is the total absence of actual games for PS3 and Rev. As long as Sony gives a US release date for Every Extend Extra and the DS keeps it up, I'll be fine for the rest of '06 given my backlog.

I'm hoping PS3 becomes reality at E3 and stops becoming an industry joke. The PS2 at this point was awaited with quiet awe... no one was making boomerang/george foreman grill/fake tech demo comments.

Aside from just not being able to afford the new systems, I'm underwhelmed by the 360 and don't imagine the PS3 will be all that much better right off the line either. The Revolution intrigues me, but I'll still wait a long while before I decide to get one.

Besides, I still own 10+ PS2 games I've never beaten, and some PS1 ones, and some PC ones, so it's not like I'm hurting for games to play.

maybe e3 will make me excited for next gen systems with the ps3 and revolution playable software. because i'm not excited about anything yet really.

The moment I truly got hyped for next gen is the moment I saw the Heavenly Sword PS3 E3 trailer. I still think it is the best next gen aspirations available at the moment. Better than MGS4. Better than Gears of War. I'll also be excited the moment I have GRAW and Oblivion in my hands. These two games truly start the real transition to next generation. PS2 launch was a little rocky, too. I remember everyone complaining that PS2 games didn't offer a level above Dreamcast games. Well, it takes time to make games. It may take even a little more time to make great next gen games. If you aren't interested now, this is mainly because we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of what next gen truly offers. Xbox 360 games haven't even begun to tap what is possible on the system. We also have not seen much from the console market leader, and next gen doesn't truly start until Sony says so. There are layers of next gen hitting here and there, but it won't hit full steam until PLAYSTATION 3 is released. By mid 2007 I think you'll be excited for next gen.

Me.

I'm almost officially retired from video games.

Except for every new 2D platformer that comes out in the Castlevania, Contra, Sonic, Mario, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Mega Man, and Metroid series.

And Mario Kart DS is pretty damned fun.

Fuck everything else.

I´m not hyped at all about next-gen systems. DS is giving me everything I need for the time being (good games meet little money = me having enough).

However, if there´s something about next-gen that makes me not be hyped, it is that until now, next-gen is all about hardware babling, when my interest is centered in games. Stop the chit-chat about how we play, how games look, how much a console is capable of, and that shit. Show me games and I´ll be hyped. Until then next-gen doesn´t exist for me.

Someone is bitter...

I just bought a PSTwo, so that should pretty much answer that question. I'm just not hyped enough for the 360 to plop down the cash necessary for one. I will inevitably buy one, make no mistake, but none of the present titles are doing much for me. I'm always interested to see what alternatives Nintendo can come up with, and the PS3 is looking to push some truly next-generation technology, at least on paper.

I'm not. Mostly because at the moment there isn't really on the next generation consoles that I couldn't "do without". Everything is better looking versions of the same themes that I've played 10 times over.

Revolution - not enough info on it to be excited but the concept is intriguing. I will definitely play the old school games on it but that won't make me buy it like Nintendo is hoping it will.

PS3 - I will probably buy it since it has all the key software developers but it won't be at least until a year after launch for a strong library to start coming and the games to drop in price. Yes, I buy very few games when they are first released. I am a cheapskate.

Xbox 360 - online gaming is my favorite so unless PS3 has an definitive answer to Xbox Live, I might get this system. I don't care if the visuals are "next-gen" or not. I primarily play a GBA anyways so I am used to it.

All in all, not too excited yet. Just nothing that has me interested software wise.

How can anyone not be "excited" for new gaming systems? Just the smell of unpacking a new system is intoxicating. If you don't like new stuff, you're not a gamer... you're a lamer ... haha (sarcasm)

I'm much like Phoenix. I haven't seen a game that offers some new shift away from the conventional games I have played 100 times over.

In the same way when a new MMORPG or RTS comes out on a PC, my eyes glaze over and the brain says "same shit, new shiny surface". That's how I feel for all these first wave of games coming out for both systems.

It's only with this second wave of games that I am even remotely interested (Oblivion and GRAW). But even those are just extensions of games I have played already.

Ironically, the only game that I am very interested in is Battle of Middle Earth on the X360. I want to see how a console can handle/do an RTS. That is interesting to me. Can a genre like that evolve on a console and provide a new, interesting experience? Or is it just a PC game with a broken interface?

Even if you are being sarcastic, I agree with this. Getting a new game system is the only thing that gives me a child like glee. To open it up and smell that new system smell, to touch a virgin controller not yet touched by greasy hands.

got my 360 a week ago. love it. zero regret. i think most of the launch games are pretty damn good for a launch.
i've been through so many launches. the only one that i had a little regret about was paying something like $800 for my Japanese launch PS2 (in Seattle) and only getting Tekken Tag and being disappointed in all the jaggies...a little. didnt crush my dreams, but the hype did have me believing there would be no jaggies in PS2 games at the time(haha). i'd say the PS2 turned out alright in the end though. :)

My goodness.
