ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — India fired missiles across the border into Pakistani-controlled territory in at least three locations early Wednesday, killing a child and wounding two other people, Pakistani security officials said. India said it was striking infrastructure used by militants.

Tensions have soared between the nuclear-armed neighbors over last month's militant attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir. India has blamed Pakistan for backing the militant attack, which Islamabad has denied.

The missiles early Wednesday struck locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in the country's eastern Punjab province, according to officials. One of them struck a mosque in the city of Bahawalpur in Punjab, where a child was killed, and a woman and man were injured, one official said.

The officials said Pakistan had launched retaliatory strikes, without providing any details. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

State-run Pakistan Television, quoting security officials, said Pakistan's air force shot down two Indian jets but provided no additional details.

Pakistani army spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif, told ARY News that the missiles were launched from within Indian territory and that no Indian aircraft had entered Pakistani airspace.

"This was a cowardly attack targeting innocent civilians under the cover of darkness," Sharif told the broadcaster.

India's Defense Ministry said in a statement Wednesday that at least nine sites were targeted "where terrorist attacks against India have been planned."

"Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistan military facilities have been targeted," the statement said, adding that "India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution."

"We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable," the statement said.

The Indian army in a post on the social media platform X wrote: "Justice is served." It did not provide further details.

Also Agenda free tv has been showing bombings and flares in the sky of Poonch that is also near Kashmir near Islamabad.
Pakistan retaliation but so quick ? Hours after the official attack news and its 3AM here in India.

I still think MAD keeps nuclear powers from escalating to nukes. I'm not sure either party wants to cease to exist.

Very careful about laying out that they're not targeting military and certainly not civilians, unlike those terrorists

Pakistan's best response here was to do nothing and just let India take out some terrorist launchpads. But nope, they got in the way, because that's what they do, harbor and abet terror within their borders protected by their nukes and military. Oh well, looking like splash one JF-17

By the way, this whole "both sides" nonsense is really gross, one was just hit with a terror attack where 26 people were confirmed to be nonmuslim and murdered in cold blood, civilians, people on their honeymoon. There has always been a terror attack by a Pak sponsored group whenever a US president visited India, little reported fun fact, it's always been to destabilize the relationship between the two great satans, but this is no longer the India of 2008 that sat by and didn't respond, and now Pakistan is running around the world seeking any protection and none is coming.

I doubt India will escalate further. Pakistan's best option would be to take it laying down with no further provocation, and this is entirely their fault with their decades of sponsoring terror networks within themselves to destabilize India. You reap what you sow.

Civilization should stand with India. There is no one dumber or more morally blind than the "both sides" folks.

Yes, this will not escalate to nuclear exchange unless India or Pakistan invaded each other and started a full-scale war which neither will do

India and Pakistan have fought multiple wars in the past 50 years even without nukes and neither felt the need to invade the other. This won't be any different

Skynews questions Pakistan Information minister about the Pakistan's terrorism ties.
Honestly, she cooked him with receipts.

Edit - This is unbelievable. I don't know who, maybe Pakistan, keep hitting this video and keeps getting deleted.
Skynews had to upload this twice with almost 500K views on each within hrs. Now its permanently gone.

Only content still up is this ->

Sad news that a child was killed. But how long is India going to keep letting Pakistan prod them and not retaliate?
How many more state sponsored terrorist attacks can Pakistan get away with.

Of course Pakistanis never do anything wrong..

funny thing is, a story I read back from the 2000s had portraited something similar.

in that world where development on the moon had already started and space travel is somewhat regular, fundamentalist from Pakistan hijacked a tourist space shuttle heading towards a space hotel station. using the space shuttle and the hostages on it, they were successful in bombing a Indian military satellite and triggering a nuclear war by firing a mid rang nuclear missile towards India forcing them to retaliate. the end result was over 5 million death, nuclear radiation contamination spread through the whole Asian area, and world economy thrown into chaos.

it's a manga series name Moonlight Mile if anyone cares to look it up. the series went into indefinite hiatus after book 23 (supposingly due to political reasons, since a lot of the stuff that's written about China and US had gotten a little too realistic). the artist, Ohtagaki Yasuo, is also the person who made Gundam Thunderbolt.

hopefully reality get a different story development here...

Dropping a nuke on your neighbour is dropping a nuke on yourself. Won't happen.
India has a no first use policy, and being an indian myself and how our public would react to it, there is absolutely no way India would use or even threaten a nuke war first. Pakistan would have to take that step which indeed would be a World War 3.

which indeed would be a World War 3.

No, it wouldn't. If nukes were involved there would be some global condemnation and words being said, sure, but no involvement - for the rest of the world this is two third world countries having yet another skirmish in the long history of skirmishes between the two, and no one really cares.

It would not

USA, Russia, and China would do nothing if India and Pakistan nuked each other

Nobody is dumb enough to start WWIII over a regional conflict between 2 countries which have been at war with each other off and on since they gained their independence

Makes sense. There is no WW3 without USA or China involved. Its a domestic issue as far as the world is concerned.

I can't blame India. Its gets annoying fast when states hide behind terrorists. Iran does the same thing. They won't fight directly so they use terrorists and claim ignorance. There is a reason why Osama went to Pakistan. He wasn't underground, he was in a compound in a civilian area. They absolutely knew he was there. Pakistan is still now denying they are harbouring terrorists. Even the Russians are like, I pretty sure we were fighting you in Afghanistan. The problem is that so were we. They funded the Taliban and we did nothing.

With almost 2 billion people on both countries, if this conflict escalates to a full blown war, it can become one of the deadliest wars in human history.
This is a time when there is a lack of someone that could lead a diplomatic push for a solution without war.
The UN is a joke. The USA POTUS is a complete idiot. The EU has it's hands full dealing with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The UK are the ones that created the mess of the India partition.
And China also has conflicts of interest with India, so they might not be viewew as an impartial mediator.

Not sure who to root for in this case. I hate terrorists but also hate Russia appeasers like India.
In regards to appeasing Russia, Pakistan appeases China and would absolutely back them if they tried to take Taiwan. That part of the world is completely driven by self interest. I look at it from who is the biggest threat to us. When we start getting Indian backed Hindu terrorists I will reasses my stance. In this case I am looking at it as self interest.

Red alert! Red alert! Red alert!

You crossed my line of death.

You haven't dismantled your MX stockpile.

Pakistan is threatening my border!

That's it, buster! No more military aid.

At least if they go to war my mum will stop getting the 'your computer is infected' and 'your subscription has run out, act now' phone calls for a bit.
