  • What to expect: A 7.85" iPad, Retina 13" MBP, refreshed iMac and Mac Mini.
  • When is it coming out?: Nov. 2, 2012, supposedly.

iPad mini?

What are we assuming the price of it? Will we see other products? Will we see an updated iPad itself?

I'm excited simply because I enjoy their presentations. It'll be interesting.

Mac mini refresh. SSD, USB 3.0, etc

As big of a fan I have been of ibooks and macbooks, I feel so disinterested in them at this point that I am not sure if I am actually going to go mac again. They are expensive which I can kind of look past, but everything being internal and basically locking off all of the hardware unless you take it into AppleCare, getting rid of the Super Drives. As much as Steve didn't like blu-ray, a blu-ray burner in a laptop would be indispensable to me. It would be nice to watch blu-ray movies, but man, being able to burn 25 to 50 gigs on the go would be great.

I may have to go with a Windows laptop next time.

Apple's in troll mode today.

"Microsoft just announced the price of Surface a couple of hours ago? OK, time to send out our invitations..."

yay! new thread.

so, smaller ipad. smaller retina MBP. I think we can see a pattern forming.

I bet there'll be a smaller iMac too. an iMac mini with a 9" screen, just like the original Mac.

you heard it here first, sports fans.

I'm curious how they'll spin a non-retina resolution for the ipad mini. otherwise, I'm only mildly interested in a revised ipad3

They won't even bring up the non retina-ness of the display. they'll push on weight, thickness and price, then just gloss over any other part that's not cutting edge. they'll say what the resolution is but won't say anything about retina.

it's not just how Apple does it (though they are very good at it) it's how every company positions an in-between device that doesn't have top marks across all categories.

Probably nothing here for me

I already have a rMBP and iPad 3.

Now if they release a new cinema display with Thunderbolt and DVI, I might buy that.

My 2006 Macbook Pro is dying so I've been waiting out this 13" retina but now people say to wait out next year's processor and I'm hesitant.

The prospect of the screen not being retina on the supposed mini is kinda bumming out.

Yep. If it isn't retina, and it's still priced above the Fire HD, Apple will have earned themselves another Fire HD sale. People like my wife and her friends dont give a damn about the name on the device. They care about size and price. These aren't essential devices. They're for consuming content, and Amazon/Android have all the content they need as well. I hope Apple surprises me with specs and price. In a good way.

it's going to be priced above the 7" Fire HD ($189, right?) because the Fire is being sold with no profit margin for Amazon. I'm not saying you need to personally care about Apple's profits - just that it should be obvious why Apple won't match that pricing.

The lower res screen is a risk for a segment of the market, that's true (I'm not getting one till I can get retina resolution, for example). But Apple is betting on compatibility with all iPad apps being more important to more people than a 200+ ppi. Thwre are a lot of people for whom this compatibility is more important than the ppi or the 50 bucks you save getting the Fire. it's not just about the brand name

In a year or two, they'll be able to stick a retina 326 ppi screen in there for $250.

Could we see the iTunes update go live the same day? Cause the current iTunes is NOT cutting it.
