I don't know what Apple can bring to the 7"-8" form factor that will differentiate from their competitors.

Legit per who?
I thought all the iPad stealth refresh talk came from this thread?

Yeah tbh I'm not buying it. I could see a very minor spec refresh but putting the lighting connector into it? Wouldn't that screw up all the case makers/accessories out there?

There have also been some mysterious photos leaked of a normal sized iPad 3 but with the new dock. Can't see why that would be worth getting upset about though if you're an iPad 3 owner.

This conference should be more entertaining than the September one if only because so many damn details haven't leaked.

I hope the new iTunes gets released this week. *.*

I am interested in the mini, but $330 for a 16GB can go take a walk. All the apps in the world could not justify 130 bucks more than the Nexus 7 if they are dropping the 16GB 50 bucks.

That $130 difference goes to $180 when comparing the Mini 32GB to the Nexus 7 32GB. I really don't know what I am going to do yet but I really hate the Apple $100 memory upgrades so I'm going to have a hard time supporting it...

"And it's available to download for Mac, starting now"

It's all that's going through my head.

It is going to happen at some point... they might as well go with the lighting connector now instead of putting it off for the iPad 4.

Yup they'll be selling millions of iPads this holiday, having the dock connector will get the transition over faster.

Yeah, it's only upsetting if it gets a spec bump/better display or battery life instead of just a connector switch. Save the IGZO and A6 for the iPad 4 plz.

Personally, I'm curious about when the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 will switch over to the Lightning connector. Surely Apple's just going to use up their existing supplies of them and make that switch as soon as they possibly can.

I really, really don't understand this opinion.

Why hold back on something if it is ready? Why be upset? It won't change how the iPad 3 performs. If you want the new one, buy it. If you don't, don't.

The entitlement of current owners is baffling. "Hold on to your improved technology until I'm ready! Screw everyone else!"

Seriously, get over it. Its technology. Technology advances quickly.

Because then Apple will have nothing for the iPad 4

I want a full redesign of the iPad when that stuff hits, for one thing. But also, I'm not financially ready to sell my current-gen iPad and buy the new one. It would make my current hardware worth less in terms of resale value. It's like a loss of equity.

For some reason it still feels kind of weird this is happening. It's the first "new" Apple device in a long time.

Well, it's more of a smaller version of a new class of devices they introduced in 2010. I wonder what the real fourth device will be, and how soon we will see it.

Sounds like a personal thing.

Why would there be a fourth device? The only thing I can think of is that real Apple TV rumor but I don't know

An honest answer. :)

Here's hoping that the new iPad mini is priced at 300$ or less (for 16gb), My 3GS is almost on life support nowadays and isn't longer capable of running Cave shmups, however it has been the most productive gadget I'd owned (learned hiragana, katakana, bunch of kanji and french grammar, some music theory, read dozens of books, etc...)

I just bought my iPad a week ago, good thing I'm a silver premier member. If apple announces some sort of upgrade this things going right back to bestbuy.

9 to 5 Mac, the guys who came out with the 329 price, seem to think the unexpectedly high price means it could have some variant of the A6 or A5X (I understand arguments against the latter). THAT would be a nice surprise.

AppleInsider quoted an analyst that pegged the iPad mini to have the A5X. Would be a strange choice for a non-retina screen....but it would also guarantee it to have some serious power. But...I don't know. Doesn't make sense. Would have thought it would have the 32nm A5 like the recent iPad 2 "refresh".

ONE MORE DAY TILL WE ALL DON"T HAVE TO MAKE UP CRAP! wohoo!

Good thing I'll get my iPod touch 5 on Wednesday. Gives me some time to see what the iPad mini offers.

You're crazy. 16x9 would suck on the iPad. Most people use the thing in portrait mode.

if the mini has something like an A5X in it and ran 3d apps really well I would sell my 3rd gen ipad towards one instead of sticking with what I have, if it's the same stuff as the ipad 2 that is still good but at least I would have no worries about my current device.

What processor does the iPod touch use? And what do they price at? Could the mini kill the iPod touch from the market? Also these iPad re fresh rumors are making my 3rd gen iPad feel obsolete.

new ipod touch uses the A5. starts at 300 for 32 GB (old touch models still avail for 200 and 250)

As for the ipad mini, there's no reason for it to use the A5X instead of the A5 unless it has the crazy high ipad 3 resolution - which I think is highly unlikely. Not sure what that analyst was thinking.

My daughter is getting my Kindle Fire 1.0 this weekend.

Replacing it will be either

8.9" Kindle Fire HD
iPad Mini
Surface

I know the the Fire HD is bringing. Impress me Apple.

Then, impress me Microsoft.
