You had me thinking with that last post, but now I'm just confused.
I'm saying they had to have everything in order for the main event to be effective.
With wrestling today nobody cares who wins for storyline purposes. They only care about who wins because they want to be entertained by a particular performer.
Nobody has momentum because Raw's are the same length as PPVs and the production is lead by somebody who nobody trusts.
Even shit like Ryder. Fans know better than to trust or believe in a character because they know that Vince will just try to use their like of something to get heat on a heel who he will feed to the good looking tall guys.

I just feel like watching the older stuff people cared about the story or the character. Here was Hogan and sting doing 5 minutes of walking around, 4 minutes head lock takedowns and rope running, and the sting splash spot into the rail. People were into it.
I mean right now the story of the WWE for 19 years has been that everyone watching has a shit job and hates their boss.
That's it.
Right now what is the story the show? AJ getting a shot at the belt from a champ that the crowd dislikes for no storyline reason? Reign's character is what? Except for a few their character or role in the show isn't defined.
Only thing that's important to a performer is can they get over. Whatever way they can the creative should use that to progress a plot.
Otherwise its a stunt show where we want to see the most athletic performers and that's where somebody like Roman just won't ever get over as the top top guy with fans.

AJ Styles comes out to a big pop and they trade promos. Reigns talks down to AJ and leaves the ring with AJ looking on. Styles and Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho is announced
* The Vaudevillains vs. Sin Cara and WWE United States Champion Kalisto is first. Good pop for Aiden English and Simon Gotch in their debuts.Kalisto took the pin after a double team. The Vaudevillains celebrated after the match.
* Natalya defeated Summer Rae with a Sharpshooter. WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte and Ric Flair were on commentary. Charlotte and Natalya had a staredown after the match but Charlotte left without anything happening.
* WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz retained over Zack Ryder. Maryse came out after Ryder but didn’t get much of a pop, then introduced her husband. Maryse ended up interfering, allowing Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win.

Just let Reigns continue to be a cocky jerk who doesn't care what the fans think. He didn't have to insult the fans or be a full heel. His cocky attitude might win him over with the crowd and if it doesn't, his character would still work. This isn't like Cena who was still doing the ultimate good guy respect thing while getting booed mercilessly.
Not yet at least. Who knows how they'll have him act once they're in the middle of nowhere like Corpus Christi.

I like cocky Reigns and think that this should be his actual character instead of being a full face or heel. He looks the part and his smug smile shit actually works for it.
