They should ditch the sleeves on his outfit. It would make sense (greater range of movement for shooting) plus increase the eye candy.

Alright, I can buy that getting stranded on an island could get Ollie buff and coordinated. Maybe I could buy him learning awesome archery there (assuming the bow is something that washes up with him--no way he could make something like that himself).

But a lot of his skills don't seem like the sort of thing you'd learn all alone on an island. Hand-to-hand combat? That wake-up reflex of taking someone down and attacking their throat? And most egregiously, engineering and computer hacking? I mean, an arrow that can wirelessly hack someone's bank account? Srsly?

I'm not familiar with the comics: is there a reasonable explanation for this? 'Cause, while I love me a good superhero story, my suspension of disbelief is pretty strained.

I don't think he was alone on the island.

I don't know comic book originals, but the show makes it pretty obvious he wasn't alone on that island. There's that deathstroke mask in opening shot, then there's the fact he learned russian while on the island. And previews for future episodes show another glimpes of that.
So yeah, he definitely didn't learn all that stuff on his own.

Just watched the first episode. Outside of some terrible dialogue, I really enjoyed it, more than any Smallville episode I watched. I always dig heroes that are okay with offing a few villains. If Arrow's gonna be around killing villains, I'm cool with it. Loved the more Batman Begins nature of it. Lead actor's pretty good, likable. Holy shit, is he fucking jacked. I kinda wanna strand myself on a mysterious island for five years if I can end up looking like that, damn. Bows in general are cool, so that was awesome. The romance between Laurel and Oliver I feel will be blah though, unless he either shows that he's a good guy beneath the swagger or she finds out about "The Arrow" (so no Green Arrow? Oh well, I don't read the comics). God, I hope she's not like Rachel Dawes, though the parallels are there. BLAH. However, I dig that they're taking the Chris Nolan style of "grounding" the universe.

Did anyone else think after the kidnapping scene, Oliver's hair like... grew an inch and got darker? Or was that just me? Also, how irresponsible is it to send the detective to interview the guy who he blames for his daughter's death the day after he comes back from a five year stint in a hellhole?

YEAR OF THE MOTHERFUCKING BOW.

I can't @ this stealth shade against Nikita.

On topic, here's a pic of Jessica DeGouw, who plays The Huntress, in case someone wants to know what she looks like:

My God, she is gorgeous.

He definitely wasn't alone on the island.

Well. I didn't hate the pilot.

LOL at
speedy
.

Also, is that Lex Luthor's castle they're living in?

I was surprised by this and liked it,just like I took a chance with Beauty and the Beast, was sure it would be bad but was pleasantly surprised, liked that also...do we have a OT for that show as well?

I enjoyed this. Not a big Green Arrow fan but...this was actually alright. Dinah as a lawyer is weird though. So is, um, Speedy as his sister? Is that supposed to be Mia?

In the pilot, as he was leaving, we saw Deathstroke's mask on a stake on the island. In the comics, The island he washed up on was controlled by smugglers who enslaved the locals. He definitely wasn't alone, and could have found a mentor on the island.

Soooooo is this show any good?

I never liked Green Arrow in Smallville.

His character seems kinda lame to get a TV series since he doesn't have any super powers. Just a bow with good skills.

I know I know Batman doesn't have any super powers but he is on another level then Green Arrow.

It's basically Nolan Batman-Lite made for TV. Looks like it ought to be decent enough though. This Green Arrow is a lot different from the Green Arrow on Smallville... I guess it's like the jump from Burton to Nolan in a way. It's pretty dark, Green Arrow kills some fools.

With all the reactions to killing in this show, you'd think vampire diaries kills someone once every season. I mean, there is always someone dying in an episode (brutal too) of VD, what's the surprise of deaths on the channel?

I never really got into Smallville so I'm not sure what to make of this. In the first episode I noticed characters named after comic creators (Grell and Diggle) and villains (Merlin/Merlyn), a Deathstroke mask, Dinah Lance (Black Canary?), and a few other comics tributes. How many of these things are teases and how many will actually happen? I don't want to get too invested in this if most of it doesn't pay off.

The Deathstroke thing will pay off within the first nine episodes. Dunno about the other stuff.

A comic book character
(China White)
already makes
her
appearance in Episode 2:

You can also see several appearance of upcoming characters in the NYCC trailer posted in page 3 and in the OP.

Dat photoshop...

CW Promo Photos are notorious for photoshopping. The late season Smallville promos were largely recycled from earlier seasons, with new headshots place on older body shots- even mixing parts form different actors. Erica Durance's (Lois) head on Kristin Kruek's (Lana) boy was extremely commonplace.

The next few episodes all have comic guest stars:

China White
Deadshot
Huntress
Deathstroke

In that order, one week after the next.

I am not joking, take this as you will but I literally fell asleep the last 10 minutes watching.

On the actual show, this is not gonna last long. Green Arror/Oliver is not a compelling enough character on his own and his "supporting" characters are not recognizable. Any bigger names they would bring in to boost ratings would overshadow him quickly.

It is better than smallville. Still doesn't mean it is good. I'm glad that they are going to show him training on the island in each episode. Dad's little black book of bad guys is dumb though.

Does anyone who isn't attracted to the male gender think the lead actor is good?

At least Smallville had a deep, iconic mythology to draw from.

That can actually be a good thing for a TV show so they aren't tied down by fanboys and criticism for straying when necessary. Some things just don't translate well from comics to screen. The trick then is going to be getting viewers interested to tune in every week for other reasons then "Who are they revealing from comics this week?!"

A deep iconic mythology to fuck up.

They did a few things better than the actual mythos.

The Clark and Lex relationship gave an actual reason for the animosity of Lex. But they fucked that up in the last episode. And I definitely preferred their take on the Lois and Clark dynamic.

It always made more sense to me that she knew before hand instead of being simpering idiot that can look at the same guy twice and not recognize him.

Never been a Green Arrow fan but damn this show is good.

Really like that there's no Clark Kent Boy Scout or a Batman with his "I will not kill code"

Hopes for the Wonder Woman show "Amazon" has me intrigued now.

I really quite liked it. In fact, I liked it more than the first episode, and I liked that.

It's not great television, yeah, but it's engrossing me more than pretty much anything I can think of that's debuted the past two broadcast seasons.

I've identified almost all of them.

Danny Brick___
> Danny "Brick" Brickwell - Star City crime lord with Stone Skin
John De__
> John Deleon - Criminal financier from comic books.
Hanniball Bates (?)
> "Everyman", shapeshifter, switched places with GA once [and married Black Cannary during that time LOL].
Albert Davies > ?????
Adam Hunt
David Drayson
> "Slingshot", very dangerous enemy
Isabel ___ev
> Isabel Rochev, "The Queen", big ties to Olivers father and Queen Industries.
Thank you!

I haven't watched the second episode yet... but I thought I was the only one who thought Ollie had more chemistry (rowr) with his sister than with his designated love interest.

There's a definite familiarity there. Like the two are really close. Can be mistaken for chemistry. Or it's just another form of chemistry. It's working in a sibling sense. I haven't exactly gotten lust from it though.

Just a strong connection.

I'm really liking this show.

I guess it works within the context. There's no spark between Ollie and Lawyer girl, but there is that sense of familiarity you're talking about between Ollie and Thea. But it makes sense, Lawyer girl hates Ollie.
