I guess it works within the context. There's no spark between Ollie and Lawyer girl, but there is that sense of familiarity you're talking about between Ollie and Thea. But it makes sense, Lawyer girl hates Ollie.
I dunno.

Lawyer lady was eyefucking him at one point.
Actually they've said some things they've started aren't due to bloom for a year or so out. I don't see her story going nuclear for some time.
I'm geeky enough to wait impatiently.

Well yeah, I mean, have you seen this motherfucker's chest? I'm straight as an arrow, and looking at him... it moved a little. I'm pretty sure everyone was eyefucking him, including his mom and his mom's evil new husband.

I'm not in it for the romance though. I'm more interested in Ollie's plan of revenge and cleansing the city. I dig heroes willing to kill and massive conspiracies and shit.

Then again, I never saw much chemistry between Clark and Lana in Smallville... but Clark and Lois, yowza.

I find myself having to avert my eyes, because it's too much manly for me.

I didn't see the spark between Clark and Lois on Smallville. Actually, it seemed only the blondes could elicit a spark in Tom. Always had more chemistry with Allison, Alicia, and mindcontrol gem lady.

With both Erica and Kristin it came off similar to the chemistry between Ollie and Thea. Familial. Based on friendship, more than attraction.

Huh... looking back on it, you have a point.

Is Welling's wife a blonde by any chance?

I'm really enjoying the show so far. Plus damn..they make arrows look and sound so powerful on screen.

And about chemistry..no wonder, his sister is hotter :D

I enjoyed the first few seasons of Smallville...stopped watching it around season...7? I think The last season I watched was the debut season of Jimmy Olsen, if I remember correctly. Anyway, I'm not familiar with the Green Arrow comics at all, but I hear this is getting good press. Is it engaging enough to watch, or at least DVR?

Yes, it's worth watching.

But it's definitely different than Smallville. Has a darker tone. You can definitely feel the influence of the Nolan Batman movies on it (in fact, as I recall one critic called it an attempt to make a Nolan Batman show but without Batman). Now don't get me wrong; it's not nearly as good as the Dark Knight trilogy, but it's way better than I ever expected it to be.

I've enjoyed episode 2, although the main guy clearly is not good with martial arts scenes. He need to stick to basic brute force moves, running and shooting with the bow [damn, that shooting looks great!].

Good pacing, serious tone, lots of unanswered questions. Cant wait to see next 3 episodes, all with great comic book character cameos.

Second episode was ok, but for the love of god who ever is shooting the action scenes hold the camera still.

Also, Damn comic book logic with using illegal obtained evidence to arrest that guy.

Part of me didn't like how the first episode worked because they introduced everyone within the universe like Speedy and Merle but the biggest mistake was revealing the twist of the mother. Drop hints through out then reveal.

Sounds like episode 2 was better so I eagerly look forward to it.

I had written this show off before it aired, I am pleasantly surprised

So am I. I didn't expect much, but it does enough right that I'll keep watching. I'm even willing to forgive the unintentional high comedy of the bits with the mother.

Said this in a different thread, but kinda wish he'd stop hitting people with his bow and stabbing people with arrows. Maybe he needs to bring along some beat-em-up escrima sticks.

Other than that, it's a pretty good show two shows in. I like seeing all the Vancourver sets. I've been to that quarry. I also remember it from Highlander and a ton of other shows.

That's just being efficient. If anything i wanna see him strangle someone with his bow.

Only just watched the pilot, and I was getting major Collateral vibes from the party scenes. The suit + the Vincent-esque movement + strobe lights mostly. The fights scenes were solid, in any case. This show sharing any crew with Nikita? The action scenes feel a bit similar.

Ehh, I guess I'll stick with it for now.

Yeah, he literally tried the Bane twirl around and punch move twice in like under 10 seconds. Both failed. Needs to stick with running at guys with guns, shooting arrows, and throwing things.

So at the end of the second episode:
Was the Green Arrow that shot him supposed to be symbolic, like the Arrow persona was killing the Ollie Queen persona?? Or is there really going to be a guy on the island that dresses like Green Arrow that is going to mentor him on how to fight crime and corporate corruption? If the former, wow that's some wannabe high brow television, but if it's the latter then smgdh at this show

Probably the latter explaining how he learned Russian and Chinese while on the island. The island is not empty in any case.

Fight with Kelly Hu was pretty bad...

I don't think it was that bad. The problem was Kelly Hu/her stunt double moves at lightning speed while Oliver/his stunt seems kind of slow at it. As a result, there were a moment or two where Kelly Hu/her stunt had to slow down her pace just to accommodate Oliver/his stunt's slow movement. The result is that some of the movements look obviously staged.

They really need to make Oliver proficient in hand on hand combat or else avoid it altogether. Alternatively, look at how Nikita stunt teams do it.

I'm sure there are tons of people on the island. I'm thinking like a League of Assassins training camp. Hunch of course. But he had to have learned the skills/languages somewhere.

I think the problem is when they try to go acrobatic. The bourne-style quick fights look really nice. They might be realizing this too. In one interview the guy who plays Oliver said he has filmed a pretty long brutal fight recently that's all quick fists, elbows and knees, nothing fancy, just very brutal

i'm really liking this show. which is surprising considering it's a cw show. though my cousin who has similar taste in shows has been trying to get me to watch nikita for a while which she swears is really good. and i'm watching smallville now for the first time (mid way through s2) and even though it wanders into cw female territory a lot its a decent show. what i really like about this show is that it feels like they are trying to make it very unlike other cw shows (set pieces aside). love the dark tone, the action so far is decent, and i'm actually interested in the story. i'm a big comic book guy, but never cared much for green arrow or dc in general aside for bats and gl and their vertigo division. but this show has me wanting to learn about arrow's origins and what happened on the island.

Speedy is getting on my nerves. She need to lose an arm.

Because she's been right all the time about her observations with Ollie? You're hating on the wrong person.

This annoyed me a lot as well. I think they need to go over how events play out in Batman animated series and the Nolan movies. I can't recall a specific crimebusting event where the police arrested someone based on Batman handing them over illegal information.

I thought the second episode was better than the first.

Nice to see Ollie go full on Bruce Wayne at the end.

That comparison to Wayne won't hold. Wayne did lead his company and fought crime publicly through philanthropy. Ollie is already spitting in the faces of many people and the memory of his dead father.

I do agree that this episode was better than the first which makes me optimistic for the quality of the show as it matures.

Thre just may come an episode where I stop thinking the arrow shooting is hokey.

I love io9's recaps for this show:

Oliver Queen is a Class Warrior for the Rich

So damned funny. I laughed pretty hard while reading about Ollie's creepy serial killer detachment and killing of poor bodyguards.

Good episode yesterday though. I liked it. The Island stuff was the most interesting bit. Loved the part at the end when he's shot with the arrow. Good that Laurel and Oliver are warming up a bit to each other. Ollie doing his best Dick-Bruce impression was funny. So, Dig seems to have an inkling as to what Ollie's up to, right? It seems like he's putting the pieces together.

Blackthorne is hilarious in this show. His character is always so amped up.

Plus, Star City still doesn't seem like the crime-ridden Gotham-esque town they seem to be implying that it's becoming. It looks like... Vancouver, hahahaha. But I love shows shot in Vancouver, I like trying to figure out where stuff is.

I'm with the people who say this show could benefit with the crew from Nikita giving a hand occasionally. But maybe those bits will improve as they go along.

Oh man, Ollie as a serial killer, too funny. Also Thea, the hell. Your brother is obviously emotionally crippled and a wreck, give him some space, jeeeeeeeeeez. I flipped this week, last week I was warm to Thea, this week I got nothing.

Well this is straight outta downtown. Looks like Hornby St.

Hahahaha, oh my God it is. I noticed one of those 'Downtown' map signs in a scene outside the court house, that was funny cause I immediately clocked it as a map of Vancouver. Didn't notice the Hornby St. one. I love Supernatural for the same reason, it's hilarious seeing stuff I recognize. They filmed one scene across the street from me last season, it was awesome seeing the shops and stuff.

You can be right and still be an asshole. Him having to watch his side piece and dad die, and living on a deserted island trumps her neediness.

I know what you are going for but it misses the underlying problem. The neediness is mutual. She's trying to force her way in back into his life just as much as he is trying to figure out the proper balance with hiding his secret agenda and bringing her back into his life.

Watched the first two episodes today. Not great but decently fun and interesting. It has potential if they iron out the issues. Lead guy isn't that great but he can improve. Will keep watching.

Completely agree! It's a very "fun" show. There are many cheesy/awkwardly acted scenes (like the ice-cream thing) but its still entertaining and can't wait to see where the show goes throughout the season.

I wonder if he'll bother giving these rich people a chance to confess every time or if should just go for the threatening with violence, secretly record them, approach from the start.

Fight scenes are pretty well choreographed, it's dynamic, well done, one of the biggest surprises for me here. Amell seems to be getting more comfortable in his role, thought the Pilot was okay but loved this second episode, much better, show doesnt look cheap as well, so it's all good for now.

As ridiculous as that preview looked, it got me excited! Deadshot looks funny, but this ought to be cool. Ollie looks like Michael from Nikita in that shot. And the preview seems to show that he has a lot more tattoos?
