An artist stepped forward and called out Bungie for stealing their work and using it in the Marathon closed alpha playtest.

The Marathon alpha released recently and its environments are covered with assets lifted from poster designs I made in 2017.
I don't have the resources nor the energy to pursue this legally, but I have lost count of the number of times a major company has deemed it easier to pay a designer to imitate or steal my work than to write me an email. In 10 years, I have never made a consistent income from this work, and I am tired of designers from huge companies mood-boarding and parasitising my designs while I struggle to make a living

This is fucked up if it turns out to be true..

IF? There's nothing new under the sun. You know someone on the team liked the artistic style and skimmed enough to avoid outright plagiarism. It seems like we get news about this topic quite often now

You'd think Bungie would just be a cool company and hire these folks, it's what used to happen in this industry a lot when they saw you had the chops but not the position. I remember Bethesda hired a modder publicly after a particular oblivion mod: I wonder if he's still employed?

I clicked on this thinking it would just be stuff in a similarly generic style.
But this looks quite blatant .

At what point do we consider there is something wrong with bungie's hiring vetting process, if they are continually hiring frauds that steal work from others.

This has happened way too often with Bungie to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point. If this is outsourced work like they claim, do not ever use these people again. If it's internal - fire people. They have actual talented artists working for them, they don't need to do this.

They could argue that artist is heavily inspired by Sony Liverpools wipeout designs, but yes, maybe they shouldn't have literally copied and pasted his stuff

IP laws only matter if you have less money than the infringing party.

No major corporation or Asian country has even been financially ruined by blatant theft like this.

They should all be though.

Terribly lazy and unethical. I could understand using images like this for mockups but you have to then rework it and make it your own. And maybe also compensate the original artist that you're stealing, ahem, using images from...

Sony is currently consists of a punish of theives and lazy developers truly the shit of the industry

Are you able to give the tl;dr

His schtick is calling single player games outdated and that GaaS are present, future, and only way forward. He gives such wonderful design insights as AI vision cones being limited because of lack of computational power. His industry analysis is as insightful as a bystander who overheard an elevator pitch on a subject that have no experience with and now tries to come off as an expert. He isn't to to be taken seriously in the slightest and I say that as an expert on someone that shouldn't be taken seriously 99% of the time. And finally, Topher Topher sucks.

Can somebody explain why he keeps getting shade from the GAF elite members?

He's pushing an agenda pretty hard, and seems to be willing to mislead people to try and prove his ideas. One of the values a private forum can offer is to not having to put up with bad faith arguments (and mud slinging, though I didn't see him do any of that). If someone wants to roll in that mud, they should go hang out on Twitter X, 4chan, etc.

I'm relatively new here, but I have enjoyed talking with him. I hope he comes back and keeps in line. It's interesting to see someone who's so passionate about GaaS when so many players can't stand them.

I thought Topher was a respected member of GAF.

What did he do?
