- Mission "FEATHERS AND TREES" - NPC's would not detect beams properly, preventing them from performing the trunk around move
- Mission "FEATHERS AND TREES" - Mission would not continue if the player doesn't follow the expected path
- Mission "HUNTING LESSONS" - Mission giver could not be there if the player goes away and comes back
- Mission "SOMETHING TO REMEMBER", fixed a bug where the screen could become all white or black for the remainder of the mission if the player set his brightness option to anything else than the default value

Holy Christ that's A LOT of day one fixes. Can you imagine if they just let all of this slide on by without fixing it for awhile? I mean I know Ubi isn't Bethesda, but come on...

I mean believe me, Im grateful for all of that to be fixed, but how could all of that NOT be fixed prior to release?

Glad to see that a lot of issues are already being addressed, especially if the problems are as bad as people are making them out to be. Though usually a buggy game doesn't bother me so bad especially when it's in a big and ambitious game.

A lot of day one fixes indeed, but I sure am glad it's all getting patched before I start getting into it. Like you said, they could have just let it go for awhile. At any rate, it's a rather big game and I am not surprised by there being some of these kinds of bugs.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
EDIT: Oh snap, looking over that patch list seems like it would fix a *ton* of things I've unfortunately been noticing in this game, especially the "Camera could remain stuck after the player being respawned" one. Man, on some of those boat escort missions where you couldn't let their health go under 50%, they'd end up almost totally dead before the damned game would even give me control back on occasion! Guess I need to log on for that! Awesome that they fixed all of this in a day-1 patch, not so awesome I suppose that something is THAT borked.

yah, that's why I'm wondering what "version" of the game reviews will be based on. That patch helps a fair amount. I could see 8s across the board in the "clean" version.

get the patch!

(thanks for posting the link to patch notes, btw)

But only on the Ubisoft website it seems. They sell the deluxe edition at 89.99 while amazon has it at 64.99. The season pass might not be available on amazon or Ubisoft are greedy pigs..

the price increase and extra content for the deluxe edition are recent, amazon need to update their listing i guess.

yeah so greedy....

"Dear Assassin,

Thank you for pre-ordering Assassin's Creed® III Deluxe Edition on UBIShop!

Due to the recent inclusion of additional game content, we have increased the price of the Deluxe Edition to $79.99.

However, to thank you for your early pre-order of the game, we wanted to inform you that you will only be charged $64.99, and still be opt-in automatically to receive both original and newly added bonus content:

-Assassin's Creed® III Season Pass, with exclusive early access to the first downloadable content pack to be released.
-Four bonus single-player missions, adding over an hour of additional gameplay.
-A collection of 25 tracks from the official Assassin's Creed® III Soundtrack (MP3 files).
-George Washington's Notebook (PDF file).

There is nothing you need to do but prepare for hours of fun when the game releases on November 20."

I love the framework of these games so much... It's the little things and hitches that always tick me off. The opening of this is really brilliant. I think I just wanted the new setting so much and for now it's really paying off. So far this game is great.

The Inside Track
Amusing, I encountered quite a few of these bugs and was actually going to write about one in my review (the white screen one). I guess I'll mention it in passing.

I only encountered one of these so far, but my biggest issue is still the pop in and draw in with the cities. Really not so noticable in the other enviroments but damnnn you can't NOT see it in the big cities with lots of people. The whole group of soldiers just popping in suddenly really takes me out of it sometimes.

I still have to play through Brotherhood and Revelations before I get this. AC2 is still the best of the series for me ( although Brotherhood is really, really good too ).

Because of the heavy rain tonight in the GTA I won't be able to get the game till tomorrow at 10am on 360.

I was thinking of picking up the digital version on PSN instead but I have a few questions:
1. What time (Eastern) will the PSN store update with AC3?
2. Can I pre-download it?
3. How long should I expect the download to take on a decent 5mbps connection? Anecdotally I hear PSN downloads can take a long time so it might not be worth it if I have to wait like 5 hours for it to download

Someone let me know how the PS3 version stacks up to the 360's. I have all my other AC's on 360 but am swayed by the exclusive DLC and the fact that I need a new PS3, so the bundle would kill two birds with one stone.

Pretty long. I think the console versions are almost 16 GB. I would recommend having the PS3 hardwired because the wireless is SLLLLLOOOOOWWW.

BTW, Didn't someone find a work around for the PSN version simply by setting their consoles time back? Or did it have something to do with the Euro PSN?

Does this game have 'corrupted data' meaning dlc story missions later?

I think they stopped doing that in revelations, but just asking anyhow.

Don't think so, but I'm only a little over 2/3rds done so far. I'd be surprised if there wasn't story DLC though personally, but it isn't presented like that afaik.

So apparently the PC version has a more than solid shot at completely sucking.

I have no idea where to put it but those of you who are looking forward to AC 3 on PC better cancel your pre-order.
This is quite old (May 2012) but it confirms that Ubi Soft Kiev is in charge of the port.
Sure, Revelations may have been a decent one but those guys were behind the unspeakable Future Soldier on PC.

Yeah it can be pretty bad, the worst was the first time in NY, wow that was really something.

A small but awesome detail in a mission (no spoiler story wise, but mission wise but I can't never be too sure):
In sequence 3 while the infiltrating the fort, one optional objective is not to kill anyone, but you can choke them!

That was missing in the last games.

Yeah, it's a "alternate history" DLC. It has potential to be awesome.

I'll give it this, the picture they show with George on it... he strikes me as "evil as fuck!" :p That damn look!

In another dimension I would have felt compelled to leave them the benefit of the doubt but the fact that AC 3 sports DX11 features + what happened with GR Future Soldier pretty much annihilates any hope of a good port.

Sure, it will look very good (Future Soldier does not disappoint graphics wise) but we won't be able to enjoy it no matter how powerful our rigs may be. And to make matter worse not only will the optimization suck but we can expect an unquantifiable amount of crashes as well.

I think we will need several PC Performance threads for that one.

The game is so beautiful in stereoscopic 3D.
Especially Boston in
snow.

General Question:
are there other cities and are they as big as Boston?

You are playing the 360 version? Is the whole singleplayer on one disk or do you need both disks for the singleplayer?

I don't have the game yet, but I can tell you that people on the AC forums have made it clear that there's one disc for SP and one for MP. You only need the SP disc to play SP.

Still in Boston, but the frame rate (PS3) is pretty bad here. Maybe I'm just sensitive to these things coming from the PC versions of most games, but several other high profile console releases maintain a more consistent 30 fps AND have better visuals. No tearing at least, but I feel I would have enjoyed it 10x more on PC (but couldn't wait).

Other than that, and the beginning NOT being what I expected, I can safely say it's Assassin's Creed all over again (which isn't a bad thing, but I bought into the hype of this being a superior engine/new gameplay).

Will put more time into it tomorrow as I love all the little historical details and overarching plot. If I persevere/steer clear of 60fps PC games in the meantime I'll adjust and enjoy it more. Worth playing just for Sean's sarcastic comments in the Animus database alone :)

My computer's not amazing, but it handles AC and other console ports fine. Future Soldier runs like shit even on low resolutions. A few months later they patched it and now it won't even start.
