Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Official Evie Gamescom Demo

Evie is literally the only reason why I want this game. She is waifu.

In all seriousness though, I'll be getting this eventually.

I'm not sure why that is though. Is it because Quebec isn't really familiar with the engine Montreal made? Because the game doesn't look as good as unity in terms of facial models. Evie and Jacob don't look as good as Elise and Arno did.

I'd have expected the visual fidelity to have been increased, since it seems they aren't over doing unity's crowds, which killed performance and was at a whole completely useless.
I can imagine that they're super wary about the performance. Wonder if they're aiming for a higher resolution as well.

Looks familiar, but I will still buy it.
Soundtrack is amazing so far! Do we know the composer?
Unrevealed, but this demo does feature an example of what they were talking about with the music.

There are numerous musical suites tied to the way an encounter escalates, which provides a kind of aural feedback on the scope of a challenge.

Don't feel like the Black Box missions should have those challenges for 100% sync. You aren't really giving me freedom if I need to be wary of don't kill 5 dudes. That's kinda forcing stealth.

Yeah I did smile when he said that the rope launcher was an iconic assassins feature.

It's a bit of a shame that they have to create these black box missions... surely the whole game should be built on the fact that you should be able to complete missions in any way you feel you want to (including just going in and killing everything).

Noticed that first guard she killed the other guard was turning around...and should have seen her.

Game looks ok... not sure what I am going to do yet, just purchased Rogue as was hoping it was going to come out on PS4 and couldn't wait any more. That's a lot of fun and would rather play that then continue playing Unity for now. I normally complete the last game with a few months to spare, but I just won't get that done, so am probably going to leave it a while before I get it.

A rope launcher that doubles as an automatic zipline, voltaic bombs, "chameleon" ability, and all these strange rings around Evie..

I'm just not feeling this game at all. The more of it I see, all I just feel is "meh", and this is coming from a guy who's played all the games! Honestly it sort of feels like they're just stretching out the series as far as they can. Not to mention they keep ignoring the modern plotline as much as possible, I assume because resolving it would give them less excuses to keep making more games...

Yeah someone posted this the other day in the steam thread. Does look like they have expanded upon the Blackbox setup of Unity to make the approaches much more different than just a separate path or entry/exit point. Still looks a little rough around the edges but coming along nicely. Then again what's an AC thread without a bunch of folks voicing how they don't like the series.

This looks MUCH more polished than Unity to be honest. Visually the game is a big improvement on PS4. IQ is better and pop in is much improved. Glad they recognised what was important to work on, on the technical side. Unity looked good but it had so many issues.

I think my hype for this game has risen a bit more, Jeffrey Yohalem is writing this game. Dude was head writer for Brotherhood (best AC game in my option) and Far Cry 3. He also help in writing AC II. That right there tells me that there is hope for this game.

EEEEEHHHHHH

He's alright, I still have issues with Far Cry 3, and Brotherhood made the Borgias to be something like comic-book villains.

My expectations for the story, as they have been since IV will be SUPER LOW. Unity's was poor and the love story wasn't even as good as Sofia's and Ezio's in Revelations. It felt forced and in the end I didn't care for either Elise or Arno.

But whatever. :P

well, I'm going to use the vertical rope the less as possible and everything that looks like a superpower (except eagle vision). Also hide that UI.

People often talk AC games down after they're released and still get hyped for the next because of the settings etc. only to be let down again (not everyone of course), but I haven't really detected that same familiar "hyped again!" air this time around. The game looks gorgeous and I love the idea of victorian london but these videos so far just haven't managed to grab me at all.
I think cause when people hears Victorian London they were expecting something really atmospheric like rain, night time, fog, Jack the Ripper type things similar to how bloodborne looks. But this isn't anything like that, it seems pretty plain to me.

Who can I talk to about these UI's? I'm sick of these horrible, opaque interfaces.

I have a plasma, IR is a real thing.

AC UI's are the worst. What's with the darkened background for the mission text? How could anyone think that is a good idea or even necessary.

AC deserves some flak but man Gaf is so picky, some of these comments are *eye rolling* Looks fun, the year turn around is killing them but at least they look to be improving some things...traversal in AC was getting dated I'm not saying carriages and batman's rope launcher will fix this but its something.

She fights with a cane? That's awesome.

Why she's not the sole protagonist of the game?

I feel the same way, but I like to think of it as one step closer to having a female assassin lead a mainline game.

Aveline was great, but she got sidelined in the Vita game-turned-HD release.

A very young woman falling in love with a 50 old man kinda feels more forced imo. Not saying that never happens but, there was zero conflict between the two of them.

Yeah, for Victorian setting, this looks very plain, was really hoping for the city to be more stylized, dark and mysterious, something like From Hell. Also, instead of this "gang warfare" they keep touting, I'd much prefer some secret societies, since Victorian London is brimming with potential to go for that route.

Another big issue, the game looks much less ambitious than Unity, while it seems they somewhat improved the gameplay mechanics like movement, the visuals definitely look more simple than in Unity, but even worse is how empty the city feels. Now, I understand it's possible they went a bit too far with the crowds in Unity in relation to console hardware, but can't say I like the solution where they pretty much fully removed them. I'm sure they could've found the right balance if they tried properly, instead of going for such a drastic measure.

Ultimately, this somewhat reminds me of going from Crysis to Crysis 2. While the sequel was a more polished game, it's the first Crysis which will always be remembered for its ambition which simply wasn't there in the safe and conventional part two.

I'm beginning to warm up to the setting. Also, I hope maxing out both skill trees won't prove to be too much of a grind.

There didn't really need to be. Sometimes it really is just enough to enjoy another person's company, especially as he's over 50.

I do think that was also part of the appeal and kind of refreshing after the tragic endings of almost any romance in the series before that and it was funny to see how cute was Ezio doing romantic stuff.

Oh, and Sofia was already like 35 years old if memory serves me well and considering the setting she was not THAT young =P

wtf at the chameleon skill. that's not how stealth works ubi.
Batman rope thing is also very silly and out of place imo.

The music is pretty good.

Looks incredibly dull.

I also love these desperate PR lines, this one stuck out:

"The iconic assassin rope launcher."

Like who the fuck is that "iconic" to? The marketing team? Batman's mask is iconic. Cloud's buster sword is iconic. The triforce is iconic. Their crappy little rope gadget doesn't even come close to deserving that word.

Why do they keep using this horrendous UI and HUD for the series? It is so ridiculous. There are 102313 icons in the screen. It is not even about the handholding, it is about how crowded and ugly it is. Ugh. I guess there is an option to desactivate all of it, right? I don't play an AC game since the third one, so idk.

I loved the music though and I like how the game gives you many ways to tackle the situations. They just need to work in the combat and stealth. Oh yeah, London is looking amazing too.

All good and realistic relationships have conflict of some kind. Otherwise the character becomes a damsel in distress who is also too perfect.

35? I thought she was in her twenties, my mistake.
She walks like a douchbag

Boring design.... Dude brodette
How does one walk like a douchebag? What does that even mean?

ResidentSleeper

Sucks, AC used to be one of my favorite franchises. Not sure if it's fatigue, tired gameplay, or those two together waning my interest.

I make fun of this series a lot for its repetition and lack of polish but I find myself playing through them simply because of the environments and atmosphere and I reckon I'll keep at it. Still haven't played Unity yet though.

Eh. I guess it to me it felt better then the forced love story in Unity.

I think we can both agree that the Cristina love story in Brotherhood was the best realized. And it was done in four short segments.

I seriously disagree with the relationship in Unity feeling forced. They successfully avoided damsel in distress, badass female, and the too perfect tropes which plague video game romance plots.

I didn't buy into it. You get one sequence with them as kids and then it just jumps to them as adults with memories together they describe but you never see or experience. All that talk about "trust me, babe, I'm still that silly kid you knew remembah?" "OKAY".

I won't look to AC as a beacon of good characterization in general, but it never felt right in Unity. Funny enough, Arno's character by Dead Kings and his frustration was easy to buy into because we experienced what put him that way.

But bleh. Unity's overall story was lame.

EDIT: ACIV had a better emotional payoff.

I literally said "no way" out loud when the stealth camo activated. So bizarre.

Also - does no one in the 5,000-man dev team at Ubisoft think it's annoying as hell to see a main character take a hood on and off everytime he/she crouches? Who the hell thought this was a good idea? I don't get it, I really don't.

I agree. That is why I hate so much the icons/UI/HUD breaking the immersion. Is it possible to play it without it?

Depends on what they offer as alternatives. I played through most of Unity without the UI, but there was a feature where if you climbed a tall building and stood still for a bit, it would highlight nearby locations.

I agree about 4 having a better emotional payoff. Ton of good character interactions in that. And I usually hate prequel stories. I do wish we could've had flashbacks but the conflict between them felt very justified, the letters helped too. The book is really good since it's from Elise's perspective.

Everything turned off but the minimap, (thankfully the health is next to the minimap this time) is the best way to play.

Every major release has had the option to disable individual parts of the HUD, and Unity even let toggle all of it on or off during gameplay by holding in one of the sticks.

I think it's safe to assume that you can play without most of the HUD. I myself played through Black Flag with just the selected weapon icon visible, and in Unity I had the HUD disabled 80% of the time. Since they introduced waypoints that you can actually see in the game world instead of just the minimap, I haven't found much reason to have that on. And health was never a concern in those games.
