Astro Bot is the Fastest selling platformer (in the UK) outside of Mario in the last 10 years

How is he getting access to Nintendo's digital sales?

The UK favors Sony so it might be true, we know he has Sony numbers as he said Astro Bot was 55% digital but if he doesn't have Yoshi or Kirby digital numbers it's a bit odd to claim they were outsold.

I mean, to be fair it's kind of the only non-Nintendo/non-Indie platformer in the last 10 years. At least lol.

I thought it did 1/3 the sales of ratchet and clank? You're telling me the difference was entirely made up for by digital sales (that were also big in 2020)?

Considering that a lot of new releases launch at around the 40quids mark against the 50 quids price from the eshop.

I really doubt Nintendo games have high digital ratio in the UK, especially from games like Kirby or Yoshi.

But since Nintendo doesn't share digital shares, it's their problem.

Do Nintendo report any numbers through financial reports? Maybe that's where his getting them from.

Ask Topher Topher I told everyone in the GOTY prediction thread a month before its release …

https://www.neogaf.com/threads/early-goty-nominees-prediction.1673634/post-269437999

And then when embargo was up and the 10s started raining I was at work overly excited reminding everyone numerous times I actually got one right haha

Regardless, amazing game and I'm not really into platformers. I platinum'd it in roughly 16 hours. Needless to say, It's currently my GOTY.

This Guy loves his engagement gouging on twitter and people always fall for it. Game with 1 main character sold more than God of War 2 in the last 7 years in Brazil etc.

that's like saying "this is the fastest selling American Football game outside of Madden"
or "fastest selling Football game outside of FIFA"

when a series has a semi-monopoly on a genre, it's not really telling much if another game comes second.

It's absolutely does, while it's true mario has dominated, to beat all those platformers to come second is impressive.

This is why we don't like this guy.

- Meh, it sold less than Ratchet
- Scratch that, sold better than Ratchet. But sold OK, not that good.
- Sorry guys in fact it sold incredibly well compared to others non-mario platformers. Bigger than Sonic, Crash, Yoshi and Kirby, you know those IPs loved since decades by gamers.

Fuck that guy.

What story do you think he changed?

Two different trackers. It looks like GSD has Astrobot with higher physical sales than what GfK had.

If it truly has outsold the N'Sane trilogy then it's going to sell gangbusters

Edit. Just seen the post above. So not that Crash game and potentially without the digital for Kirby and Yoshi, makes it a strange tweet to make lol

There's not too many original platformers in the last 10 years, but it's still a very useful stat to know.

Thought he was suicidal once for his mess and quit twitter only to come back a day later

He said that it's selling better than Yoshi and Kirby games, though.
For starters, it's selling faster than the following games:
LittleBigPlanet 3 (SCE, 2014)
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (Nintendo, 2015)
Yoshi's Woolly World (Nintendo, 2015)
Tearaway Unfolded (SCE, 2015)
Ratchet & Clank (SCE, 2016)
Knack 2 (SCE, 2017)
Super Lucky's Tale (Microsoft, 2017)
Kirby Star Allies (Nintendo, 2018)
Astro Bot Rescue Mission (SCE, 2018)
Yoshi's Crafted World (Nintendo, 2019)
Concrete Genie (SCE, 2019)
Sackboy: A Big Adventure (SCE, 2020)
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (SCE, 2021)
Psychonauts 2 (Microsoft, 2021)
Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Nintendo, 2022)

Good! Astro Bot is easily better than all of those games. I'm glad it's selling well, despite not being a Nintendo property.

How many competitors are there to Fifa or Madden? Can you even name 3 of each that you know which would make coming second impressive? That's a very specific sub-genre of sports games.

Astro beat Crash, Sonic, Psychonauts, Kirby, Ratchet and Clank, Yoshi, LBP... It has many competitors.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land ended up selling over 7 million units, so if Astrobot is outpacing it, or even selling at a similar pace, that's great news. I have to imagine Sony would be very happy with sales in the 5 to 10 million range, given that it was made fairly quickly by a relatively small team.

He's just clickbaiting but the problem isn't him, it's all of us falling for it again and again

This is why I'm skeptical about some of you.

- he reported on physical sales for the first week it was on sale, with caveats that it covered just two days of sale

- he then came back with updated physical sales after enough time had passed that he could align the number of days. Notes that sales were quite impressive.

- Finally, he provided the full picture with the Digital sales data he now had available, and compared against other platformers.

So what's changed? Looks like very strong WoM and a higher than average digital sales %

Not much thought, just blind outrage.
