Holy crap this has been the busiest six months of my life. Seriously understand why Japanese people barely sleep now, there is just not enough time. Finishing off my last assignment as we speak and then I'm off to the Nagoya cosplay Summit and Mt Fuji for climbing and that haunted hospital everyone raves about. Anything interesting happen these past few months? Honestly surprised there isn't a new thread.
Was it the best 6-months of your life?

Also is it actually a cultural thing in japan for people to post pictures of their group presentations on facebook? :p

I had probably the most positive customer service experience ever. I bought a power amplifier from B&H and it died within three weeks. I contacted them to organise a return.

In 5 minutes they filled out the RMA form for me, gave me a paid shipping label to send back to New York, and even paid the courier to come collect it from my house. When its back in New York, they will send me a new one. This power amp weighs 5kg, is huge, and is only worth $400.

If I bought it from an online Australian retailer, not only would it take forever to get the RMA through but I would have paid return shipping. Some sort of bizzario world we live in.

Yeah I've only heard great things about B&H in terms of customer service.

Compared to Melbourne i think it's great considering I live an hour from work.

And growing up in Geelong we had the most borked transport system. Any place that has on time transport is gravy

Geelong has public transport?
Yeah it was fucking awful when I lived there >_<

Probably of interest to some folks. The Hulu app for android now allows non subscribers to Plus to access the free hulu content thats on the website (or a portion thereof). They do lock the Chromecast function behind the paywall....which is weird as the OS level screen mirroring to Chromecast still works.

Guardians of the Galaxy!

I overhyped myself too much :(
Wasn't an instant classic which is what I had amped myself up to expect lol

Fantastic movie though, probably my favourite Marvel movie. The moments that dealt with the actual team were brilliant and spot on what I wanted. If the next movie focuses more on them and their experiences rather than a story they are part of I would lose my shit with joy.

Casting was spot on from top to bottom. Really slick and everyone hit their marks perfectly, Chris Pratt could be huge if his manager can get him into the right roles, very much channeled the best Harrison Ford gave us but in his own unique way. Didn't just play his Parks & Rec role which was a relief. Bradley Cooper probably stole the show as Rocket though, ton more depth to that role that I didn't expect. Groot had the nuance I expected from the character/actor which was satisfying.

Script was great, plot was dull! Gunn turned in a brilliant script with really enjoyable dialogue and pacing. Although I was bored with the overarching plot it was serviceable for the reasoning behind it, my enjoyment of the characters themselves probably got in the way of liking the story itself I expect.

Visual effects were outstanding, knocked up a few notches from the usual Marvel stuff. Some people feel the Marvel universe has a direct to DVD feel to the effects
(Avengers gave me this more than anything plz don't hurt me!)
and they really hit it out of the park on this one. Gunn has his finger prints all over the camera work and cinematography, glad to see a unique film maker allowed to exert himself onto the Marvel canvas (especially in light of the Antman thing) to make it stand out a little from the others.

Reminded me a lot of Mass Effect 1. The worlds they created were breathtaking yet barely touched on, leaving you wanting more more more. All the world building and origin establishment makes me hope GotG 2 is very much a character focused piece like Mass Effect 2 was. Rein things in a little, bulk up the emotional investment in the characters and leave the big epic battle story for the third movie and the inevitable Avengers tie-in.

In any case it was a light hearted, fancy free affair. The moral of the story is have fun and be friends. It's nice to watch a movie that just wants to have fun every now and then!

I absolutely loved Guardians of the Galaxy. They captured everything perfectly that I got out of the books, and then some. The music is to die for and the characters were each given enough each but still leaving you wanting more. This will definitely fill my Star Wars hole until next year. I need to see it again.

I just saw GotG as well! I absolutely loved it. :)
Now I have "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" stuck in my head.

I feel like witty dialogue and funny character moments take precedence over plot, pacing, motivations etc in most of the MCU films, Scorpio.

I meant that the plot existed and I wanted it to fuck off and just watch the Guardians shoot the shit all the time and have feelings and shit rather than be like, "fuck, that a-hole still wants to kill us/them/someone? Whelp, saddle up I guess. Leave the hacky sack tournament for tomorrow :(".

Uh oh...

I just tried to purchase a game off a digital store using VPN and a fake address, and now the order is sitting in limbo in which support have to contact me directly.

It will be interesting to see what happens from here...

Yo AusGAF, does anyone know if the following games got proper Australian releases or not (as in, with the Aus rating printed on rather than just a sticker put on a UK copy):

Wii:

No More Heroes
No More Heroes 2
Klonoa
Muramasa
A Boy and His Blob
Punch-Out
Sin and Punishment 2

Gamecube:

Chibi-Robo
Doshin the Giant
Viewtiful Joe 2
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Phantasy Star Online Episodes I + II
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Cheers.

If any are yes and anyone is willing to part with a copy I am in the market

Anyone in Melbourne want to see Guardians of the Galaxy with me today at 4:15pm at Village cinemas Werribee?

I've got a spare ticket, don't want it to go to waste. No need to pay, just come along.

On that same note, I've got gold coast booked for 4 days from 20-24 August (during my birthday) but my travel partner cancelled due to family emergency.

Anyone want a free 4 day stay? I doubt the flights can be transferred but 4 days accommodation in surfers paradise shouldn't be an issue.

/sad face

I'd head to the movies with you in a heartbeat DJr, but my strep throat leaves me in a fairly non-committal state I'm afraid, usually need to have water, tissues or a bathroom nearby :/ Maybe any Geelong folk should keep that offer in mind as well :)

Cross-posting with F1GAF because it's fucking awesome news:
FUCK YES! Confirmed on the news via the radio this morning that Melbourne has another 5 years as Australia's home of Formula 1 :D I'll link up an article when/if I find one.

Almost wonder if Danny Ricky's success provided a bit of impetus on our local government to secure it.

Edit:
Done deal: Melbourne keeps Grand Prix until 2020
The Australian Grand Prix will remain in Melbourne until at least 2020 after the Napthine Government signed a new five-year deal.

The deal comes following more than a year of negotiations between the government and formula one management.

Premier Denis Napthine won't say how much the new contract is worth, but insists it's better than previously negotiated.

INTERVIEW: Premier Denis Napthine speaks about the deal to 3AW

Commercial rights have been retained under the new contract, which includes Melbourne hosting the first race of the season in March.

The jobs of 49 full-time staff and hundreds of contractors have also been secured.

More than 100,000 people attended the 2014 grand prix.

The government says the Melbourne Grand Prix boosts the economy and drives tourism.

The most recent figures show that the 2013 event cost taxpayers $50.7 million.
There's an audio soundbite there as well which confirms it's similar to the last contract, in that it's locked to be the first race of the season, in March each year (amongst other things). Beautiful.

Sucks about the trip being canceled. However I might be able to help out with the using of the stay. Where down the coast is it?

It's not a porn movie, you fucking sicko.

Oh that's too bad, see if you can make it.

I won't be satisfied with just one kidney.

Yeah had it planned for some time, it's 4 nights at the Surfers Beachside apartments in Surfers Paradise. The free cancellation period expired just a week ago :(

Okay, so I managed to find someone for the movie. You can rest at home Shane, hope you get better soon.

EDIT: Tiger is absolutely useless in offering a partial refund, change of date, change of passenger name, flight credit or any kind of assistance. $175 to change a name on the ticket ffs. :X

Hey man. I know for sure Viewtiful 2 and Twin Snakes got local Cube releases... I'd be willing to part with my copy of Viewtiful 2. Send me a Pm!

GotG felt underwhelming, could have been so much more.

Interesting characters with little or no backstory put into a generic plot. Script and comic moments kept me interested, otherwise felt like straight to dvd material.

It's clear that starlord's father is Thanos, right?

No More Heroes: cover has AU sticker, disc UK rating only
No More Heroes 2: cover has AU sticker, disc has AU rating too

Okay.
then who is it, I have no idea about the comics

some space dude completely unrelated to anything in the film

Yeah Thanos on earth would be awkward as hell. Dude is massive and purple! I haven't read the comics but I expect it's some random alien dude that looks mostly human at worst. Whoever it is isn't super powerful because the Ravagers were meant to take Quill to him yet they never got fucked up by him. I expect it's just 'some dude' who turns out to be awesome and funny and a rogue. He will die soon after Quill finds him, probably on some big villains order (not Thanos though, unless he survives Avengers 2).

Thanos adopted the 2 girls after slaughtering their people so he could experiment on them and turn them into his assassins. Pretty sure super early on in his lore he sacrificed his family to Death in the hopes of becoming more powerful or something (vaguely recall references in Deadpool comics).

The official release date in Aus for GotG is the 7th this month. This thursday coming. Yet half the people I know have seen it at the pictures and it seems Village is offering multiple advance screenings every day, open to the public. This confuses me greatly.

Yeah I didn't understand the advanced screenings open to the public. That's basically a release right? I wasn't complaining though. Village Eastlands was packed in the session that we went to.

Huh that's odd, even IMDB has us listed as 31st July.

But yeah, even our country cinema has had one screening a day. Had no idea they were advance screenings! Didn't see that listed anywhere.
