Damn the waiting list is still that long? The reason why I bought an M235i instead of an M2 was the 2 year waiting list. Can't you get a used one with low mileage?.
There's fewer used M2s in the States then there are states.

There are plenty of new and used cars readily for sale now. 114 on AutoTrader

I didn't say new and used, dude.
Also, yeah, there's cars readily available if you're willing to pay 10k above sticker. I'm not.
There are new ones at MSRP without any markups.
Nah, it just recieved a "facelift" with the Aventador S so we're at least like 3 years away from a new V12 Lambo.
Fairly wrong. The average lifespan of a V12 Lambo ranges from 10-14 years. The Countach ran fro 14, Diablo for 11, and Murcielago for 10. The Aventador is 7 years in. So it's got another 3 years of life in it, and most supercar owners don't even keep their cars that long anyway.
I doubt he's too bothered about a new Lambo approaching.
Not within 500 miles of me.
I might start cross-shopping used 981s. Might be a little too intense to have a Cayman S as my only car though.
Congrats on the beauty 🙌🙌🙌🙌Picked up a Jaguar F-Type R today... Sorry for the crap picture and for it being kind of dirty.
I got it back home around 21:30 from the dealership. I'm gonna wash it in the morning and get some proper shots.

I'm so happy GAF, big personal achievement for me. My first self-owned car, bought and paid for by myself. It's not a sports car or a super charger, it's a Toyota Corolla 2017 but it's brand new and it's all mine !
yay
Can you buy it out of state and have them ship it out to you? Or make a trip of it and pick it up yourself?
If you're keen on the car, its probably worth looking out of state rather than waiting 2 years for an allocation.

Congrats, looks gorgeous. At this rate half of auto GAF will have F-types by the end of the year.
Alpha might get his bonus after all.
Also, anyone catch Le Mans? The duel at the end between the Corvette and Aston Martin was pretty good.
Small Boxster update: spent a small fortune on a big service (everything from oil to plugs, air filter, etc), new tires (Michelin Pilot Sport) and a modification of the cooling system. It now has the same water pump as a 996 Turbo (and the GT2) and a thermostat that opens a bit sooner. Should prevent some of the thermal spikes these cars sometimes deal with in hot weather / stop go traffic.
3500 euro *cries* but the cool thing is, it does actually drive much better than before.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage from the 1970s?Speaking of which, I saw a unicorn yesterday, at least for the US. We were getting into the car and I literally stopped in my tracks to gaze at it. My passenger said, why are you gawking at that thing, you're not a fan of US muscle cars. "It's not," I said, as it rumbled past. I swear the driver looked at me grinning, like he knew what my friend's mistake was.
Can you guess what it was? Hint, my friend thought it was an obscure Shelby mustang.

Here's a few more. I still need to buff and wax the swirls out, but I won't be able to until next weekend after I get back from work.

The Porsche tax is staggering. I would love to own a cayman, but the service cost are eye watering. A major service on my miata is about $300 in parts and a weekend of me working on my car.
I want to get a Cayman 987 as a weekend/track beater but the potential maintenance costs scare me. Can you not work on these cars yourself?
... I didn't have any problems following the STI around but I let him take point because I figured the cops would nail the car in the lead so I just stayed with him. ...
this is what i do most of the time, i don't want to race but love the sensation of speed. i wonder though, do cops really pull over the lead or what? is there some kind of study on this?

Auto GAF needs a heel. I could be the heel. I could be your Kurt Angle. My music would start playing, I would strut down the ramp, and sound of the crowd yelling "YOU SUCK!" in sync to my music would rain down on me and shake the whole arena.
I got my Model S. Sorry for the bad pictures, it was already getting dark when I found this empty parking lot to take these shots.
Driving this car is a bit ridiculous. There isn't any soulful roaring of exploding dinosaurs in a metal box to let me know I'm accelerating. I just floor it and I'm at 100 mph with nothing but the sound of the tires on the road and a subtle whine from the electric motors as they are fed many electrons. This isn't even the P90D, although the Ludicrous is really only for launching from a standing start, at cruising speeds you get the same effect from a regular 90D that you would from a P90D or P100D. Of couse if your goal is 2.3 seconds from 0-60 you need the P100D. I'm content to settle for 3.8 seconds from 0-60. I opted for the regular 90D instead of the P90D because first it was way cheaper and second the range is longer than the P90D because the rear motor is smaller.
It's like playing F-Zero or Wipeout or something as opposed to Forza. There's no throttle to open, no turbo to spool up, no transmission to downshift, or anything really. Below the top speed of 155 mph, I more or less control my speed dynamically, because acceleration is instantaneous, absolute, and always at the maximum available until I hit the speed governor. The torque curve on an electric motor is essentially flat from zero to top speed, so I have 485 lb-ft from standing until the software says i'm not allowed to go any faster.
I was cruising along on my way home and I saw an STI blow by me and I was like okay, let's stretch her legs a little bit so I followed him in his Rex for awhile at 90 mph until he exited the freeway. That was fun. For a car with a curb weight of 5,800 lbs. it feels pretty amazingly planted, the STI is roughly half my car's weight but this is a car which doesn't drive heavy because of the low center of gravity and the pleasant weight distribution of 48/52 front/rear which emphasizes the sheer insane acceleration of the car. I didn't have any problems following the STI around but I let him take point because I figured the cops would nail the car in the lead so I just stayed with him.
As a daily driver this is probably a little overkill for American freeways. Oh well.
Ouch! However, now that it is out of the way you have to be feeling pretty good about how the car is looking and driving. And it does look great for a 986!

I was at the Porsche Museum for the Le Mans event. Anyone interested in the pictures? I could upload them.
Purchasing a car. It's a hard decision. I can't seem to find anything that satisfies my picky perfectionist self that's not $50,000 or more. Paying cash. I hate car payments.
I'm coming from a bike and backpack and just want it to be fun if I have to pay for it. Something with 4 wheels and a trunk of any size is overly practical for me.
I've narrowed it down to the following currently, but way open to something else.
1. Mazda Miata
Whether is a soft top or RF I can't decide. I keep going back and forth. Also, not sure about Club or GT. It has to be manual. Leaning towards a Club with the BBS/Brembo.
Local dealer has a Red, Club, RF with Brembo/BBS coming in tomorrow and they also have a Red Soft Top Club with Brembo/BBS. Another dealer has a GT I like with the tan leather and appearance package.
The reason I haven't bought one yet is because of how stupid Mazda neutered the packages and trim levels in the US. No brembo/BBS/LSD/Bilstein on the GT, no leather or other nice things from the GT trim for the Club. Ugh. Canada got the goods, we got screwed I feel. No backup camera or neat tech items for a 2017 such as CarPlay / Android Auto, but those can be forgiven.
I'm also only 5 foot, 4 inch. maybe? And the Miata doesn't have a proper seat height adjustment. I can see over the steering wheel, but an extra half or full inch would be quite sublime. It's on a rail, so the closer the higher. I move it close to get the height, but then my left arm is so bent and my knees hit the steering column. Still pretty fun to drive, but doesn't have that confidence driving feel like if I was just a tad higher up. I don't want to have to get a cushion or something for a new car I'm paying a crap ton of money for.
I'm not modding and will keep the car stock.
2. CPO 2015 Audi TT Roadster
Local dealer has a low mileage lease return bright red TT with Navi, Nappa leather, and S-Line packages. I test drove it yesterday. Almost perfect, since this is the US and it's a 2015, it's still the MK2 version sadly, but for the price I'm not complaining much. Except for the phone/music integration. From what I quickly researched after, it's well, not that great. Maybe worse then even the Miata / Mazda Connect thing. I did miss the manual. First time in a DSG. It was weird. I keep hearing how great it is, so figure I'll figure it out.

Both of those are good choices although I'd personally favor the Miata. The TT is just super nose heavy. If you're buying used, keep a close eye on infotainment stuff, too. This stuff has changed a LOT in the last few years. In that price range I'd definitely check out a Toyota 86 and one of the higher trim Civics too. Maybe a Mazda 3 as well.
Be glad you're short. The Miata is a non starter for me although I haven't driven the newest one yet.
About two weeks ago I discovered some damage to my bumper. I asked around at work if anyone had seen anything because I knew for a FACT that it was perfect when I parked. Apparently a giant truck got stuck in our parking lot making a delivery and knocked over a tree and a trash can in the process. Folks grabbed a bunch of photos of it happening. It was quite a scene.
I got the name of the trucking company from reception and called them to explain what happened. The guy was a BUTTHOLE and immediately accused me of an elaborate fraud scheme. Claimed his driver was innocent and I was an opportunist. I sent him a ton of photos and eyewitness accounts. He wouldn't budge, and wouldn't tell me his name or the name of his insurance company.
So I filed a police report - which got him to cough up the insurance company, and the insurance company took one look at the collection of twenty photos and eyewitness accounts and even some GPS logging and security camera footage we had, and immediately paid up. The client still denying it.
Anyway, JUSTICE! I was lucky my colleagues all had cameras. Thank you technology.
Engine and transmission mounts can make a huge difference in feel and refinement. When I did that in conjunction with the steering flex disk it was such a huge improvement.
