Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Launched to “Very Positive” reviews on Steam

Sunday night 7PM release caused this. Probably the worst time to release a game.
You'd have thought so. How about midnight GMT here in ole Blighty. With everyone already asleep for work Monday morning.

Metal Gear V had 90k concurrent players at launch on Steam.
Yeah but that was an open-world game with a lot of freedom of play (something PC gamers tend to appreciate from what I've seen).

I didn't finish MGS3 back in the day, but it was quite a bit more linear than that from what I remember.

If you’re a PS5 owner who wants this game, then y’all are just beta testing it now

100% - Thats why i let PS5 owners beta test all their games before they come to PC a year after.

Luckily, PS5 owners are in for a treat as this is one of the best performing games this gen, even on series X. No bugs like spider man 2. Runs at solid 60FPS at launch. Xbox and PC users are winning with a competent dev like Machine games.

I like Dial of Destiny, the action scenes were way more grounded than the Skull movie.
That was a generally decent movie that just released way too late into Harrison Ford's life.

I honestly think that Lucasfilm was always very misguided in trying to create a baton pass moment in 2 films now.. Just recast Indiana Jones and build him up into a prestige character that actors want to portray ala James Bond.

Some people really hate to see Xbox being successful :messenger_sunglasses:

Luckily for PC owners this is a large open zone game to explore so I am sure as word of mouth passes it will have a lot of fans for many years to come :)

Edit: also, a lot of effort being into trying to drag this game down in whatever way it can be. Very strange and a shame for such a good game tbh.

There are bugs. We've discussed them in the OT.

But the point is that the game was from a very famous active IP and had some attractive features for more casual players, indiana doesn't have that. It wasn't something PC player specific, if anything, they're the ones who consume these games more than consoles these days.

So what caused this?

The modern audience? Game Pass? The old IP (dead thanks to the last movie by Woke Disney)? The gameplay?
The most recent Indiana Jones movie lost 143M. Most people just don't care about the IP anymore.

But for people who do care (like me): it's pretty good so far.

Secondly I don't have a pro, and until they fix PSSR I won't be purchasing one either.

What’s wrong with PSSR? It’s mostly a developer thing and as you are very much aware PSSR is a software product so it will never be “fixed” but just improved over time so not buying the console because of PSSR isn’t a viable reason, in fact that’s why you should buy it since there is obviously some potential for it to get better over time.

Played for a few hours last night. It's not perfect but it is fun. Really good take on an Indiana Jones adventure.

Ahhh, ok you are a troll. I havent come across you before.

Jesus, I just read your post history. You havea hate boner for this game and Xbox. Clearly, the sodium that this is a game as easily as good as Sony's best is hurting you.
My point was you clearly have a bias for anything xbox/pc and if the game would had launch on PS5/PC instead of xbox/pc you wouldn't be calling it your goty.

I haven't been on gaf long but I have noticed without looking at your Post history that you clear have a strong bias with anything xbox/pc.

A few reasons this has flopped.

1. Its a game that was originally marketed as an Xbox exclusive, and Sony won the console war and has the most fans, those fans run the industry and the zeitgeist and will not give the game a chance to shine.
2. It's on gamepass day 1. Huge mistake. Why buy a game when you can play it for "free" under a sub you already pay for? Why pay 70 dollars for it and get ripped off when buddy can play it for free on gamepass? Most will gamepass or skip. How can this be sustainable with the cost of a game like this?
3. Does not launch day and date on PS5, so PS5 release will not save it. As someone so eloquently put it the other day, this is not a new release but rather expanding the availability of an already released game. Can't double dip by delaying a platform release, it usually just hurts launch sales because it splits marketing efforts and leaves biggest platform PS5 out of organic community hype.
4. The IP is for very old people today and stars a very old actor who is not even voiced by the actual actor. The last movie or two also failed to draw an audience.

Game itself looks good though. I loved Butcher Bay. Will buy on PS5 in a sale. 2024 really was a good year for gaming. Glad to see MS having a good game here finally.

I don't buy products with the hope they get better over time, I buy them for what they can offer at the time of purchase.

Doing it any other way is illogical.

Well, you can think what you want but you are wrong. This is just a very good game. You clearly have a biased against anything Xbox / MS so why is your opinion valid?

My GOTY was Infinite wealth and still may end up being my GOTY if this overstays its welcome or falls down. I am just saying from what I have played 17.5 hours I am very much enjoying the game.

I do like PC and Xbox but it doesnt magically make an average game GOTY. this is just a great game for an Indy fan.

Releasing on a Sunday night has to be the dumbest possible decision ever made in video games besides approving the concord character designs.

Also $70 linear games are simply too expensive for the market. Yes they are expensive to make, but the market doesn’t support the cost to make these. Either AI your way into making these games cheaper or stick with other genres.

That's good to hear. It looks like a decent game. Unfortunately it's positive review scores and word of mouth are doing absolutely nothing for it's CCU right now. Marvel Rivals, Infinity Nikki and Path of Exile have absolutely killed this game stone dead on Steam.

I really do hope 80-90% of it's player base right now are playing it on Xbox or through PC Gamepass.

You aren't buying a product from some dodgy company tho but ok

I think it's overpriced for what it is, but other than that I see zero major issues with it.

Why are the steam numbers so low hardly anyones playin this
The game has flopped?
It's barely been out for a day or two. Jesus fucking Christ...

The game released last night at 7PM. Before that was early access folks. Peak times for Steam games are Saturday and Sunday afternoons so a bit premature to base anything on Steam CCU numbers right now.

Yeah, we'll have a much clearer picture 1-2 weeks later. As it is still creating new peaks.

But as of now, it is fine to say that the launch is not going great at all. Even Suicide Squad launched with more players.

Possible MS thought more folks would pay extra for early access. That very well may have backfired.

Except, the same thing got Tango closed.

Or any of the Xbox titles that isn't COD.
Yeah you're just concerned about the studio closing.

Sure you are.

Textbook bootlicking nonsense.

Remember that medieval torture where the poor sod was roasted alive in the belly of a bronze male cow? The Brazen Bull it was called. Reading your posts evokes much the same feeling on the poor souls reading them. A miserable experience set to the chorus of animalistic braying. Only it's called The Brazen Bullshit.

This is the same dumbass mentality that results in people buying stuff that never ends up delivering on promises/claims that manufacturers make.

I think it's overpriced for what it is, but other than that I see zero major issues with it.

It's not "overpriced" for people who only play on console and want the best performance possible.

I don't only play on console though and I have alternatives that already offer better performance and upscaling tech.

If they can iterate on their upscaling tech in the same way that Nvidia did over the years then I'll sell my base PS5 and upgrade to the pro. I didn't need to experience Nvidia's first attempt at DLSS and I certainly don't need to here.

I think it was a terrible spot to release next to two juggernauts.
Yes, but good games still manage to find their own place.

Horizon Zero Dawn's launch was overshadowed by Zelda. The game still became super popular and sold more than 25 million copies.

And that's just one of the many recent examples we have.

And if other, smaller companies are releasing their games in a crowded schedule, Xbox should too. They can't expect an open field.

I kinda wish to see an alternate reality where this game was released in like 2022 alongside a limited edition Xbox, before MS was on this current multiplat trajectory. It feels like this is the first game Xbox has had in years that's a bonafide hit but, it can't overcome how badly the company has tanked its reputation recently. Anyways I'll be grabbing it on PS5 when the time comes....
