Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Launches on Steam with 145k Concurrent Players and 'Very Positive' Reviews (92% Positive)

It's good to see a small dev breakout like that and embarrass big companies including Ubisoft. I am not planning to play this for a while, but will definitely get to the game in the summer at some point.

So far in the year KCD2 takes the crown as it's an amazing game from characters to story to approach to quests to the world and how the whole thing interacts.

Realistically, what's left to challenge it? Yotei maybe?

I think for me only DS2 can be close to it (or better if Kojima truly delivers) while Yotei for sure will be good but I don't expect it to be GOTY level.

For me CO:E33 is close to game of the generation (maybe it is) so far. I just finished the story, I enjoyed it from start to finish and as someone said already there is no bullshit filler that plagues Japanese games. EVEN BETTER, side contend is really worth doing here, is adds to the story.

10/10 music
9.5/10 story
9/10 gameplay (clunku menus are my main criticism
8.5/10 graphics (lot of small technical stuff but game is massive and developed by small studio - it also runs very good for a UE5 game).

3.33 x 3 from me (9.99/10)

No bugs, no dlc, no online bullshit, this game is pure kino.

The writing, voice acting and combat system are stellar, what a sleeper hit this turned out to be, my GOTY so far!

Or it's just them saying "so far this year....."

Yeah I don't get why people get upset about the goty comments.
When I see someone call a game "Goty" early in the year I always asume there's an implied "so far" .
Same reason we don't start every post with "in my opinion".

Looks like it's going to be about 8-10k below last weeks peak, but still above launch week's peak which is insane. Hasn't left the top 3 of Steams top sellers since a few days after launch.

At launch Oblivion Remastered had higher sales and more players. Now Oblivion has lagged significantly behind in both terms. A turn-based "JRPG" preserving its top 3 selling spot several weeks after launch with daily player peaks still in 100k+ range is simply completely unpredecented for the genre. This game is the geniune definition of success; a game that keeps on selling based on extremely positive reception for a wide variety of players. No shareholder company with millions spent on "consultant" analytics could've predicted this.

The GOTY claims are legit. The game isn't only superb but it has generated a very positive zeitgeist from pretty much everybody.

Death Stranding 2 will be up there too, and don't forget about Crimson Desert, this gen's The Witcher. Those are the 2 biggest games yet to release this year.

Hell is Us may turn out great too.

Yotei will likely be good, but I give it no more than zero chances to be among the finalists.

It's this. No matter how many "consultants" or "board meetings" can ever capture or predict when pure passion meets talent meets the right game at the right time.

This one is going to be one of the jrpgs that constantly gets brought up and compared to any other in the genre and beyond

Don't know when I'm getting Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and I'm not in a hurry to buy a new large single-player game, but it's clear that I need to play this before the year is over. I'm just happy that the game has been so successful.

Tried playing this game. Hated the combat and menu system. Dropped after a couple hours. Felt like a PS3 game with better graphics, and I mean that in the worse way possible.

I know modern convention for games is not to buy at launch and wait but I would still highly recommend picking this up. It's very polished with few bugs and performance (on consoles) is great. It's priced at $50 so lower than modern AAA games' first sale price while offering a much better experience.

I've got my eye on Hell is Us. I don't care if anyone says its premature naming E33 goty it absolutely will be in serious contention. I hope it clears up awards to send a big fuck you to over produced long term development AAA games oh and Square Enix the turn based doesn't work anymore clowns.

In my case, it's more about scaling back how much I'm spending versus how much I already have to play at the moment, so I really don't mind waiting for a sale. And, owning Dead Cells/Sifu/Pacific Drive on Steam gets me $5 off as part of bundles for each, so I can get the game for even cheaper on that platform. And I'm watching for deals on IsThereAnyDeal.

I've got time.

2nd shipment has basically sold out already where I live, stores around me are all out of stock, one retailer still has it available online but already has the "limited stock" warning.
