Aside from the fact that Veilguard was rebooted multiple times, it’s standard practice to keep certain things constant when you’re doing an analysis. In this case, it should be Obsidian. Not sure why the work of another dev team is being cited here.
Their last two games were excellent, and while Outer Worlds ended up falling short of many users expectations, the key variable here is the time and budget allocated to that title.

Budget and time helped KCD2 become bigger and better than the original. For obvious reasons, you won’t cite that here 😃

You're clearly not seeing or understanding the bone of contention many people have with this title and the team behind it.

Comes as no surprise of course considering Microsoft cocksuckers/employees and woke conveniently seem to go hand in hand these days. But it would help if you could at least start to acknowledge and address the issues that people have with the team behind the game (and their publicly stated intentions) along with the plethora of implications that has, instead of attempting to make this about budget/scope/time or any other nonsense you're attempting to deflect towards.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I still haven’t figured out how people feel about Avowed on gaf, but to me, it’s just a gay Skyrim. Why play this when Skyrim exists is a mystery to me.

It's very explicitly not Skyrim, the poor devs have been telling people that for year(s).

So you're ignoring the outer worlds which happens to be the game in the most similar category to this because...?

The Outer World seems to be a fairly well regarded game both critically and in terms of user scores too tho, a rarity these days.

This is a thread discussing a premature review. A thread centered around the quality of the game. Your handwringing about what a member of the team does with his spare time does not impact the quality of the game.

To reiterate, one man’s publicly stated intention to coach who he perceives as minorities in his spare time does not necessarily have any impact on the quality of the game.
Having the option to select pronouns via a toggle in a character creator (which in itself is set up to allow people customize parts of the game to their tastes) is not the end of the world, and I could care less if that same guy chided your favorite billionaire for insinuating stuff like that doesn’t belong in an RPG. Especially after the market - and GAF - enthusiastically took to Hogwarts Legacy which takes pronouns a step further.

instead of attempting to make this about budget/scope/time or any other nonsense you're attempting to deflect towards.

You were the one who brought up Outer Worlds…and budget/scope/time is way more appropriate to a review discussion or a discussion around quality than all the culture wars/anti-woke shit you’re diverting to.

The quote:

"Through its gorgeous world, memorable characters, frenzied combat, and intuitive yet deep customization system, it highlights player agency. Everywhere in its gameplay and narrative, ensuring that each playthrough offers something new."

Fixed it for them as best I could(needs to be rewritten):

"Through its gorgeous world, memorable characters, frenzied combat, and intuitive yet deep customization system, it highlights player agency everywhere in its gameplay and narrative, ensuring that each playthrough offers something new."

You see that this is poorly written, correct?

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed, too. Specifically:

Everywhere in its gameplay and narrative, ensuring that each playthrough offers something new.

That's not a sentence. It's hard to trust professional reviewers who can't write a sentence.

I haven't been following this game closely

is it going to be something similar to Skyrim/Oblivion when it comes to open world, or are you on much more linear track?

also dozens of hours is a weird way to quantify playtime. that could be 24-120 hours.

Also, just another reminder that reviews are opinions. Some people may love something, while others may not. No one is right or wrong in any case. Much like you could eat something and think it tastes like shit, while someone else thinks it's one of the best things they've ever had, lol. It's all subjective.

It also depends on their relationship with the publisher.

Let’s be honest here, it’s not journalism or sincere critique, especially when the Xbox focused sites publish their reviews and why would someone like Klobrille receive an early copy as well.

Any game pass subscriber should check it out themselves rather than relying on those sell outs.

An Obsidian game with actually enjoyable combat? If true, definitely a first
I was just watching a random video of combat and it doesn't look anything like FO:NV or Outer Worlds combat at all

it is much more fast pace. also looks like you can dual wield a combo of melee weapons, throwing weapons, guns, shields, and magic any way you want

seems good I think

Who cares? I judge games on the actual gameplay, I preferred it when all you knew about a game was who published it, not which bright spark chose the tree colour or something. If it's preachy and comes with some forced social agenda it will probably fail hard and deserve to. But if it's an RPG which allows choice (for everyone) then all power to them and I hope they knock it out of the park. There is a difference between providing the tools for self expression and forcing a narrative.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the title. If it's good enough I'll buy it on PS after playing it through GP on GFN. It is interesting it hasn't been announced though on PS. (There was the directors kind of nod, but that might have been misread)

Keep in mind you cannot block when you dual wield. I plan on playing a dual dagger high crit build. Thought I would be able to parry but now I just gotta focus on dodging.

Day 1...on the Switch 2.

At least Nintendo is trying to help the industry create actual software sales.

If it’s just that it’s no biggie.
But if you meet a major story npc named Elizabeth who looks like a bulky male or someone who looks like a lady but named Arthur - then it’s about pushing a political agenda and then it deserves to sink the game.

Every game with dei elements are currently scored higher than they deserve it. Either the reviewer himself is scared of the backlash if he gives a lower score or their supervisor is forcing him. That is unfortunately the reality we are living in.

Even in the bigger podcasts there will never say something negative, even if the dei elements are even painfully forced into the game. Sometimes you can hear someone wants to say something, but someone else is quickly changing the topic.

Better combat and visuals than Bethesda's stuff (which is not a high bar, tbh). But it's not open-world. It's big, connected regions (think Outer Worlds).
You can have companions, no romance (thank God). And the game has a focus on combat and exploration, so no bloat like crafting and shit (thank God).

It remains to be seen how well everything is executed. Outer Worlds was mid.
