I was just being cheeky. "What little men we have in contrast, they're just evil."
I don't care either way, I too prefer males being the villain more so, unless they're properly done like in Uncharted 3 (as an example). But old wealthy white British women always excelled in the villain roles.
eh, I think on this one they'd argue excluding females in the role of an antagonist further stereotypes that they're frail and can't be taken seriously as a threat. especially if you are a male lead character. only a man would be able to pose a challenge to the protagonist, etc. (funny enough this is exactly why I find females in those roles often don't work)
there's no winning with that crowd so I don't even bother
I'll agree it sucks, main reason I always played as an assassin, quick kills and looting jewels as an argonian most of the time. But to my eyes ( not tried it myself ) avowed doesn't look much better, not good enough to go through such a static world
There is an OT for this game if you want to talk about it specifically and not stuff that comes out of the reviews. This is the "reviews" thread, you know.
I haven’t read that review, but I must be missing some context. I can only assume that some review praised the number of women in the game (which, on its own is fine, I don’t know if you’re aware but it is allowed for a story to have more women then men, but I digress) which triggered the defenders of game realism and apolitical purity. Or maybe the review itself was counting women, which would make it a silly review.
Either way, it’s a stupid thing to be discussing in any thread. I’m leaving this one, because it’s turning into something that’s neither about games nor game reviews.

Understanding the context of the discussion is usually a good thing to get a handle on before you start replying. You still don't quite have it, but doesn't matter. Turns out the whole discussion was silly so you are right there.

Fuck me. I've kinda been offline for 2 days and I come back to users now arguing over if the ratio of women in this game is around 95 percent.
What the fuck have they managed to manipulate us into arguing about now.....
I personally want to drop into a high fantasy world with 95 percent women.
Ill then play the game of how many can I impregnate before I return to my world. Imagine walking through the lion, witch and wardrobe to a world that is 95 percent women!
You guys seem to be more, walking out of the closet instead of through it!

In an RPG, where worldbuilding is more important than in other games, if there is a disproportionate ratio of one sex over the other, you have to explain how they reproduce and build the society around that, or else that place cannot exist.
Mack just plays the game and reports. Most people with common sense and has played these games knows what he's on about. It's been a running theme for quite a while..
I’m early in the second area, I think it’s been a bit 50/50 in terms of male and female so far in terms of people in power. Unless you include leaders of the gangs and outlaw groups, those have mostly been men so far.

I have bad news for you friend, the women in the game dont look like women, they have all male bodies, wide shoulders with no chest, its hilarious and sad

Seriously though, If there were more men than women, people wouldn't bring this up. It is a fantasy RPG set in an entirely different world. Don't overthink it
Well this is the situation the service has created.
Without it I don't see a world where they attempt to sell a game like this for $70 and expect it to be successful.
It's just a polite way of saying the game isn't worth it's asking price and a more appropriate price would be what the subscription costs for a month. It's no different to the "wait for a sale" recommendation reviewers would typically use prior to the days of subscription services.

A 13-year-old game has me spoiled, I’m used to being able to attack any NPC (except children, of course, though I wouldn’t mind making an exception for that annoying kid in Riverwood and the Jarl of Whiterun’s son). Avowed feels like it should have released 15 years ago. It’s not complete trash, but it’s missing the living world feeling. It's all the static NPCs you can’t interact with in any meaningful way that makes it feel like a single player MMORPG.
Papi, even if we give the armor thing a pass, look at the other women in the picture, all of them have flat chests. This is intentional, I have been watching videos of characters and its so blatantly obvious lol but its fine I will try the game this evening or tomorrow

Yup most of those look masculine af, blasted in tats or full plate mail like a knight which was equivalent to midleages strongman basically, 0 feminine features like gentle smile, instead resting bitch face and cavernous pussy energy is eminating from all of them.
Just to give u an idea, this 50yo polish tv host looks more feminine and youthfull from all the ones in the screenshot :

Hey, at least they have long hair this time, instead of all the short bobs you saw in Outer Worlds.

I can't believe we're still talking about the percentage of women in high-ranking military positions or as quest-givers. It was never NPCs, btw - not sure how it morphed into that; it was high-ranking officers and quest-givers, and also the discrepancy between their backstories and their appearance. But even Mack didn't think those issues were that important. He was more bothered by the artificial feeling of the world, the dull characters, and the lack of interactivity. I'm anti-woke myself, but we do tend to get tunnel vision about this stuff sometimes. There are bigger issues.
And btw, he only played 7 hours. He's not like other reviewers, in that he doesn't feel the need to finish a game to review it. If something isn't grabbing him, he drops it. So whatever he said was just based on his experience during the first 7 hours. The totality of the game could be different.

p.s. Speaking of bigger issues, here's a short from Skill Up, highlighting his concern about choice & consequence:
Mack just plays the game and reports. Most people with common sense and has played these games knows what he's on about. It's been a running theme for quite a while..
People in the thread are literally upset because women in the game have jobs like blacksmiths. The emotion either comes from a deep seated issue with women leaving the home or ignorance about history. Judging by other posts, it’s obviously the first one. and the second one
And in this case he’s misleading because that’s what the grifters do. Congrats on being duped

Man, the denial, double standards and gas lighting are off the charts with you, it'd be funny if it wasn't for the fact that it's actually pathetic.
Also : absolutely-zero-self-awareness, you behave exactly like that you accuse others of...
You of all people posting crying gifs ? Christ the irony !
You and 3-4 others in here are the e-cancer of this forum, absolutely insufferable...
Yes, but yet here we are decades later when things have progressed much further from a technological standpoint (so there's no excuse really), and these aren't being universally panned.
My comment was regarding people saying that games are ‘perfect for Gamepass’ is condescending. Thats got nothing to do with console wars, buddy.
However, the people that feel the need to come into every Xbox thread and trample over it, please feel free to call them out (ooops, that’ll be your double standards).

I'm arguing that you're 51 years old and yet, you take personal offence if X game for your favorite plastic box gets blasted for whatever reason, that, and the "double standards" part goes to you being constantly "condescending" towards Y title of a not so favorite plastic box.
"Rules for thee but not for me" basically, also, try to practice what you preach, it ain't so hard.
These are friggin' videogames we're talking about man, it's nothing serious - in stark contrast to popping a vein which - at our age - is a serious and real thing

The blacksmith thing is odd. While historically speaking men were dominate in the blacksmith field, it wasn’t exactly unknown for woman to participate as well. Usually this would be for doing chain or nail work as that was something lighter and required a deft hand, but it could also be regular forging as well. Something heavy like wagon wheels was usually left up to men. Woman could even own a blacksmith business, if the father only had daughters or the wife took over the position. Some examples from history include an illustration in the Holkham Bible (1327), the master blacksmith of the Tower of London during the 100 year war was a woman (Katherine le Fevre - her husband had passed away so she took over). Marged ferch Ifan and Elizabeth Bennett were further examples. The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths in London listed 65 ‘brethren’ and 2 ‘sistren’ in its 1434 charter. Over 200 blacksmith students are documented to have been apprenticed to women in Oxford between 1520 and 1800. All that being said, a lot of those blacksmiths might indeed have been whitesmiths, which often used softer or lighter metals and dealt with items that required more delicate work. Which could often include the finishing work on weapons, assuming the skill set was high enough. Just before the Industrial Revolution woman were dealing with the mass production of such common items (nails and chains specifically), one anecdote is from William Hutton’s History of Birmingham. As he wrote; ‘one or more females, stripped of their upper garments, and not overcharged with the lower, wielding the hammer with all the grace of the sex.’
Just thought I’d go off on a bit on a tangent. It’s all pretty academic really as this is a fantasy game, so it need not comply with historical norms.
People are getting hung up on the number of women when the real problem is that it kinda feel like outer worlds where men are almost all annoying, cunts or wimps or \fruity\gay or baddies and the women are almost all capable or positive.
Not sure if it's gonna be the same for the whole game but the beginning kinda feels like it.
Yes you have men of power, the first city has 2 men in charge, except one is
allied with the city rebels so a baddie
and the second one first opening phrase when you meet him must have been the director telling the actor to do the most annoying, cuntish, wimpy voice he could muster (no seriously, the inflection in his voice is almost comical)
And even when you talk to him later he feel like a wimp terrorized by the steel garrote or whatever.
Then you have this couple of grave robbers where the chick is clearly the boss and call this huge snake dude "tiny" even if he doesn't like it, and when you threat them he is scared as fuck and want to go to his mommy so you end up only fighting her...
Then you have the strongest character showed until now being a powerfull woman, one confirmed gay male companion (not because i watched a grifter, he spells that to you when asked about his quest)
10-15 years ago maybe i would not even notice these interactions or coincidences, and maybe they are just coincidences, but after their previous similar game you tend to see the bitch eating crackers everywhere, we really are conditioned to think the worse out of these devs and i'm still scarred from the outer worlds that was everything but subtle.
So yeah i'm not definitive on the writing but i'm already kinda skewed, it doesn't help the fact that the 2 male companions are really dull as fuck so for now i didn't really encounter a memorable male character yet.
At least the game feels much more fun to play, so there is that, and the woke stuff is not even close to the level of sp2 or veilguard, you can still suspend your disbilief.
P.s. writing is a bit too modern at times, i think i already had the chance to answer with yikes, pretty sure i'm not confusing this bit with kc2.
