Just overthree hours after its launch, the game recorded a player count that leaves its previous record of 73,980 players three years ago in the dust, according to Steam.db.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was anticipated by fans of the RPG genre for a while. Larian Studios has packed hundreds of hours of content in the game, and these offerings have been refined over three years of early access.

With the game finally leaving early access today, expectations were high for Larian Studios’ latest work. To nobody’s surprise, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been an extremely popular launch, but it has also shattered all expectations.

Less than three hours after launch, the game has reached over 326K concurrent players on Steam.

Why it matters
: This puts the game ahead of major 2023 releases like Remnant 2 and Resident Evil 4 Remake, making it a massive success for Larian Studios.

In terms of reception, Baldur’s Gate 3 has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. Over 90% of the 70K reviews on the platform are positive. Moreover, users who have not bought the game yet are engaged with the gameplay, with over 463K viewers on Twitch.
Damn, this is very impressive!

And this is after the Early Access period! If there were no early access, I reckon this number would have been even higher.

Steam and GOG. With those two options available nobody in their right mind would play via the windows store even if the option existed.
Oh, for sure. And damn, forgot about GoG option, DRM free Day 1. "But Denuvo is required or games won't sell and be pirated".

steamdeck...
I actually was THIS close on pulling the trigger on a Steam Deck during the recent sale they had...

Instead, I bought a portable DeLonghi AC for the heatwave here in Germany that was supposed to stay for the whole summer. Used the thing exactly three evenings before temperatures dropped again :/

Oh well, I guess I'll enjoy the AC next year.

This might just make it to the top 5 biggest CCU for a SP game on steam by today, +452k users.

Steam has grown massively since those launches. Like... massively massively.

Steam had 5M CCU when Skyrim launched. It has 33M now.

Starfield should see greatly increased numbers just from the growth of PC gaming alone.
Back in 2016 a game needed 40k concurrent players to secure a spot on the Top10 most played games list. Now you need 100k to have a shot at it.

I‘m so weak…. I want to play this on console for that lazy bed gaming experience… I don’t want to sit in front of my PC… But……

Let me introduce you a lapboard. It totally changed my gaming life. I play on my PC on the big TV with keyboard and mouse.

That being said, I wonder how the Steam servers are managing. I notice that the speed wasn't great at first but I got my 10mb/s+ after a while. Petabytes of data, almost exabytes!

Edit: wow 23 terabytes per SECOND!

I still can't believe Cyberpunk charted that high. Once in a lifetime moment and they blew it. I hope BG3 continues to grow in playerbase.
To be fair, it's had the biggest comeback outside of NMS in gaming history, and sold 20m+ units....not sure if blew it is right term lol.

GO LARIAN!!

If it's this on a weekday.....I'm picking easy 500-600k concurrent in the weekend, especially with the review meta at 95 and all non-scored reviews extremely positive. Larian, you've smashed it!!

Five bucks says Larian gets snatched up within a year.

I've posted an article where the Larian Studios founder said he has no intention on selling, at least not anytime soon.

More than two decades after starting the company, Vincke and his wife still own the majority of Larian’s closely held shares. Recently, a list speculating about potential Xbox acquisitions, which was circulating far and wide on social media, included Larian as a possible target. Vincke said that although such conjecture is “always flattering,” he has no plans to sell anytime soon. “I’m getting older, but I’m certainly not done yet,” he said.

A new owner might pressure Larian to maximize profit while curtailing its creative choices, Vincke said. “The strength of this company is that I’m very invested in the gameplay, and I also make the ultimate decisions,” he said. “We can do things in service of the games we’re making.”

For shits and giggles here's MS' dossier on them

1- Cyberpunk 2077 -> +1M
2- Elden Ring -> +950k
3- Hogwarts Legacy -> +875k
4- Terraria -> +485k
5- Fallout 4 -> +470K

Real chance BG3 might make it to the top 5.

Gamers are thirsty for quality RPG's but devs still dishing out GAAS trash. The fact that an indie rpg is above so many online games is a huge middle finger to dumbass greedy devs.

Makes me happy. Larian did exceptional work with both Divinity games. Can’t wait for them to fix whatever issues they have with xbox version and dive deep into that world myself. Not gonna fuck any bears, though.

Well if you don't care about buying it twice, it does have cross save with the PS5 version. So you can pick up right where you left off when it releases.

I didn't know that there were so many bear fuckers out there.

I want to understand the hype but i don't have much patience for these types of games, I dropped Baldur's Gate 2 like a rock :/

Twitch viewer numbers are insane too.

Too be fair the twitch integration is insane too, and totally unexpected.

While I was downloading I watched a few streams for the shitty underwear unlock, but the fact you could pull up all the party's stats and spells, view their equipment and inventory in real time while the streamer is playing and vote on character interactions in dialog was amazing... I mean good streamer interaction was one of the last thing I expected from this and its superior to like 95% of everything on twitch.
