Based on what we know of the Switch 2, are you getting one?

Will you order a Switch 2?

  • Yes, preorder day 1

  • Yes, but sometime after launch

  • Nah, not a Nintendo fan

Skipped the Wii, Wii U and Switch.

Gonna preorder the Switch 2. Looks to be the first great Nintendo console since the GameCube.

Can't wait for HD Zelda at 60fps.

That'd be a very short list. I think the only thing that's actually confirmed by Nintendo is that it'll be backwards compatible. They haven't even officially given us a name yet as they still refer to it as "the successor to the Nintendo Switch".

But I mean, we have so many independent leaks that are all pretty much all identical at this point.
Yeah okay then I can't say that I want one based on what we know.

But I know I want one because it's the only way to play Nintendo's games.

I'm gonna get one if metroid prime 4 is gonna look truly unmissable or when the new open world zelda is out, not interested in anything else from nintendo or their first parties.

The info we had are inconsequential to me, before any leaks i already knew that it was gonna be a tablet with shitty controllers that i'm only gonna use in docked mode to squeeze as much power as i can from it, if it wasn't for the games, i would never buy such a gimmicky, underpowered hardware so knowing that is 20% weaker or stronger than expected or if it has dlss or not, doesn't change anything.

Nope. Its be the same old Nintendo crap endless ports, poor 3rd party ports and endless sequels to Mario and Zedla with mummy and daddy graphics :messenger_tongue:

It doesn't matter what you know about it. It's Nintendo's next console, you're getting one regardless of the specs if you want to play their games.

In

I want to play Mario kart 1,000 and Zelda meets Mario part 888.

Maybe they can live stream shows and set alerts, Mario takes a dump.

Day one, yes. I already have a beefy PC and Nintendo is the only console manufacturer doing anything interesting that actually compliments that.

Switch probably ended up being one of my most used consoles. I already have a huge library that will carry forward (still using my launch Switch so it'll be nice having it on a newer piece of hardware).

Software wise, Switch was the highest highs we've seen from Nintendo IPs since GC/N64.

Pre-order Day 1.

Will order a 1.5TB MicroSD as soon as it's confirmed they're supported again.

I have four Switches, will probably end up with at least two or three Switch 2s in its life.

I have my launch Switch, my wife has a Switch she used for AC during COVID, I have a Switch Lite I got for travel, and an OLED I upgraded from the launch model to.

Why so many?

I got my wife's Switch for $25 from a Gamespot trade in deal where you could trade in a launch Xbox One or PS4 and get a Switch for $25.

It depends on new games. Most of what came out on Switch was WiiU stuff, the other were forgettable at least. The only two games I was interested were Link's Awakeing and the other one with similar Chara design

I have a feeling that the switch 2 is going to finally break that barrier where tech out weighs game development skill. Even more so if it truly has 12 gigs of ram. It will be easier to develop for than the Xbox series s.
It will get most of the big third party games and be an even bigger success than the switch. Most gamers don't care about graphics as much as you guys do and the majority of games don't push hardware anymore.

I'm thinking the Switch 2 gen will last 10 years, if not longer. The power level is going to be good enough for people.

Hell, we're STILL getting PS4 cross-gen games in 2025.

That's 12 years after the PS4 released.

Not caring "as much" about graphics doesn't mean folks don't care. And the ability to handle graphics and getting the big third party games go hand in hand. The competition for Switch 2 is going to be the Switch even if Nintendo stops making it. Folks with Switch are going to need a compelling reason to upgrade. Graphics is a big part of that.

Switch is going to be getting COD, 2K, Madden, and EAFC every year and they will be portable. That's all people care about. People trying to pretend it's not going to be a juggernaut are huffing copium.

Yep. I'll get a launch model and if Nintendo release a lite version, I'll pick up one of those as well.

what do we know exactly?
I think this might be it, if we're only talking about what we know officially:

We [Nintendo] will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year [ending 31 March 2025].

In the results call when asked if the next gen console was brand new [or more of a DS to 3DS evolution]. Furukawa answered "Switch next model is the appropriate way to describe it."

At today's Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we [Nintendo] announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well.

They've been very tight-lipped.

Which goes back to my point that to have those games, you have to have the graphical capability. What's the point of Switch 2 at all otherwise? I'm not making any prediction about the things popularity so where is the "huffing copium"?

Not hyped for the hardware. Will depends on the games they have. Games is mostly what sells Nintendo handhelds to me. So its up to Nintendo to deliver.

Potentially.

On some level buying on day one would be no different from waiting because let's face it....Nintendo's doesn't do price drops....

Day one. I'm convinced this might become the most succesfull Nintendo console of all time. From day one this system is probably gonna get lots of hits/ports from PS4/Xbox One era. No doubt.

Probably but not day one. It really all depends on how solid the first year of Nintendo games are. There are still a lot of questions up in the air regarding backwards compatibility and screen quality. If it's OLED and can run every Switch game I own then it could be a straight upgrade from my OLED Switch which I may as well do. If it's LCD then I may hold off buying it until a better model comes along.

You could always hope Nintendo screws up.

They cut the 3DS price by roughly 30% after only 5 months.

I don't really see that happening.

I expect them to just set the price at like $400 and just kept it there forever....no sales either.

Undecided. Probably leaning no, since I'm not much of a Nintendo fan apart from Zelda, and I have no use for the handheld function. If they put together a compelling enough package, I'd consider it, though.

It all depends on the library. I'll probably get it early on, but if there's nothing particularly compelling I will be quite content with my Switch OLED and large backlog.

Maybe. Prices of Switch games are terrible, especially first party games. So, maybe I will get Switch 2 or maybe I will get a Steam Deck which will also serve me as a Playstation Portal alternative.

It's the same with every Nintendo consoles, i grab it for one game (that ends up being disappointing) and it ends up collecting the dust.

I think after the immense disappointment that was ToTK i'm not getting the Switch 2 anytime soon. We'll see after a few years.

I'll buy it, but thanks to Xbox 360, I'm going to wait a few months to see if it has errors... If the console is good, I will buy it in September to December.

My daughter turned 5 and just recently started gaming. She is also crazy over Mario and Peach, so we are most likely going to get her (us, lol) one for her birthday in the summer.

IIRC, Switch OLED was a product of opportunity, Samsung had an overrun of screens and Nintendo got them for cheap. Am I remembering that correctly? Switch 2 OLED won't be a thing at launch.

As for if I'm getting one anyway?

I am not yet sure if this is a day one for me at all. It will depend on launch lineup, what it does for existing games or do you have to buy them again? And how much better visually will it all be, docked?

We don't know enough to judge.

For example, if Nintendo offers "boost" enhancements to existing games so frame rate and res get stabilized (the whole Xenoblade series as an example), I would be there Day 0.

If they don't or have to have devs to make a patch, I would probably wait.

There are other questions in system functionality, how exactly will BC work, do games run off cartridges or have to be installed and a lot more that is unknown.
