Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Titled

How does it scream desperation? If they were desperate they wouldn't have delayed the film or brought in an oscar winning writer to script it. If they were that desperate they would've jumped into Justice League right away and skipped this movie.

Desperate because they put Batman in a Superman movie? Come on...

Because the title screams "marketing". It uses Batman as the top billing because Batman sells. It uses "Justice" because it wants us to know "hey guys...Justice League is coming" instead of focusing on a more condensed plot. This is all inference from the title though, doesn't confirm if the movie will be ass or not.

they did need fox and sony to remind them though with xmen, mib and spiderman, even then they murdered their first attempt to bring back superman and failed miserably at doing the green lantern. People like to shit on fox and sony now but they were the ones to get things really rolling in the early 00's.

Before that it was really only supes and batman that had been given the blockbuster treatment and it took 11 years after the success of the first superman movie for Batman to happen.

You could try to argue Dick Tracy and TMNT but these were low budget efforts, costing less to make than the original superman unadjusted for inflation and in the turtles case less than half.

There were other attempts in their like judge dread but it followed the unsuccessful formula of lets make a movie into a comic book rather than the successful adapt a comic book into a film. Ironically though when they eventually did do a better adaptation of dredd it bombed more than the original.

Even the first X men movie was a much lower budget attempt compared to its contemporary films. The Mystery Men movie cost almost as much.

The floodgates were well and truly open as far as comic book movies and it took WB a long time after that to get back in the saddle with very mixed results.

If they really knew about superheros making money they wouldn't have lost money making superman returns and green lantern. If they really new about this cash cow there wouldn't be the situation where a mainstream ant man movie is likey to be in theaters before we even hear about a flash or wonder woman movie.

WB has never stopped having Batman, Superman and JLA movies in production going all the way back to when Batman and robin sunk that franchise (and hell, they even considered making a sequel to that at some point). Not all of them were great but it's not like WB ever abandoned the idea of making comic book movies or the idea that comic book movies could make a ton of $$$. Executions them is another thing.

It's like they know how stupid "vs" is and think that just "v" is somehow better.

I just gotta post this again.

I hope the people who greenlit this title have nothing at all to do with the rest of the movie.

I thought it was because WB didn't want to do any 'super powers' movies in the 90's. They'd rather keep it Batman sequels, cause no other heroes were really 'grounded'

They were pursuing superman and even thinking of superman vs batman in the 90s. Like Ninja Scooter said they've always had a bunch of different projects in the works but attaching random writers, directors, actors and never following through isn't what i would call having confidence in making a buck.

Of course not.

Wonder Woman is vital to the DCCU though, so I can understand the concern of her treatment. But if people would just think for a second, they'd realize that it actually won't be easy to relegate Wonder Woman to a Nick Fury or Black Widow. Her part in the League is too big.

Which version of the League's history are you referring to, though? There was a full 20-year stretch of published DC continuity (1986-2006) where WW wasn't even a founding member.

In general, while WW is certainly an important member, she hasn't historically been significantly more so than Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, or the other members of the Big Seven.* The only take that really hammered in her singular importance in the League's history, IIRC, was Brad Meltzer's short run in 2006, which has been largely forgotten.

*I believe this was the case in the New 52 until she became Superman's love interest, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

How much credit does WB really deserve for films they failed to get off the ground? I'm as fascinated as anyone by Miller's JL and how it came within a hair's breadth of starting production, but it's ultimately just a footnote.
