So I finally started my 10 hour trial on PC and it ended just second ago and I wanted to come and give my honest feedback. Overall I actually...enjoyed myself. On my personal PC it ran fine, consistently stayed above 75-80fps @ ultra settings using DLSS quality and without ray tracing cause honestly with how chaotic the game is I doubt I'd even notice the feature as is. That is not to say there weren't a few times that performance took a nosedive randomly during really heavy moments but then it would course correct and be right back where it should be.
I am still not 100% sold on the idea of specialist BUT it's less due to concerns I had going in and more because of reasons I was not aware of before playing. Those reasons are the post match quips which after the usual high intensity action packed match just seem to put a pile of shit on what otherwise is a pretty enjoyable experience. The fact any and all specialist can equip any weapons/gadgets outside of their respective "special" skill does rob them of being unique in the typical BF class role but it didn't seem to ruin the identity of BF like I assumed it would. But please remove this mobile/fortnite personality that is inserted in small areas of the game, it's not necessary.
Maps seems fine but there is so...much...empty space. This could just be my not knowing how to get around or utilize vehicles at this point but there seems to be too many moments where there is quite a bit of running to get to the action and I feel like there are quite a few areas that need to be tightened up. Kinda tied to this is vehicles being so fucking powerful, like jesus fucking christ I have gotten better using Sundance and her abilities but it feels like a lot of people just flat out ignore helicopters and I do everything I can to control land vehicles but it ends up being a fruitless effort. They really seem to control the entire flow of the battlefield and I am not usually one to call for nerfs but damn.
Gunplay overall feels fine, there seems to be some odd hit detection issues that I noticed in the first couple of hours of my trial and this was backed up funnily enough by a video that jackfraqs put out that same day I played. This was really evident when I found a guy camping prone in a bush and his back was to me and I put an entire clip into him and he was able to get up, put some distance between us, turn around, and kill me, it was like my bullets did absolutely nothing to him and that was not the only time, it was just the most obvious. Apparently they are aware of it and are working to fix it.
I am finding myself enjoying Breakthrough more than Conquest possibly due to the more focused gameplay as opposed to everyone being more scattered. But I always enjoyed Rush in BC2 so that makes sense for me personally. I have yet to try Hazard cause everything I have heard is that people are essentially playing that mode exclusively and are kitted out so I don't want to jump in and get my ass kicked.
Not a lot to say about this particular point but really REALLY sucks that squads are limited to 4. I get it cause of math that's how it worked out evenly but it sucks if you have a larger group that wants to play together and 4 is so limiting, 5-6 is a good sweet spot.
Destruction is once again lacking. I found myself attempting to blow up walls that seemed primed for a rocket and nothing happened. It's unfortunate but it's been this way for awhile now so it is what it is.
I have more thoughts but again overall my thoughts are more positive than negative, I am happy to see they are attempting to be more proactive than sitting on their hands. It's still not an excuse for AGAIN releasing a game in a state that needs to be patched every other week, to be fair it's not just them but still. I feel like this game is on track get to a pretty great place, I am enjoying Halo as well but the current battle pass system is extremely underwhelming and the unlock system and mastery system in BF2042 has me more engaged so we shall see who gets their hooks in me long term.
