https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2016/05/24/kenneth-starr-reportedly-to-be-removed-as-baylor-president-amid-football-scandal/

On Starr’s watch, the school is accused of failing to respond to rapes or sexual assaults reported by at least six women students from 2009-2016. Although the problem of sexual assault at the university goes beyond the football team, at least eight former Baylor football players have been accused of violence against women over the last eight years and Coach Art Briles and Athletic Director Ian McCaw have received increasing criticism. The regents, according to Brown, believe Starr bears more responsibility in the matter than Briles.

The reported move comes as the board is preparing to examine and address the findings of a law firm hired to review how the school handled the rape and assault allegations.

In late March, Jasmin Hernandez filed a lawsuit against the board, Briles and McCaw, claiming school officials ignored her attempts to report and seek justice after being raped by then-football player Tevin Elliot in 2012.

The lawsuit claims that Hernandez’s mother’s inquiry to the school regarding their mental health services was shot down, saying “they were too busy” to see her daughter. It goes on to say that this happened twice more and that she was told, according to the lawsuit, by academic services that “even if a plane falls on your daughter, there’s nothing we can do to help you.”

It is insane to me that Universities are still thinking it is ok to drag their feet on this. Need a major culture shift, fast. Weird that his name is in the news again shortly before we have another President Clinton.

Sad that this is really only happening just so they save the football coach and program. The whole administration and athletic department needs cleaned out. They shouldn't be given a third chance. Let me remind you all that this is the school where a player KILLED another player and buried him in a field and the head basketball coach covered it up.

Damn that Crooked Hillary. Are there any enemies that she won't destroy on the way to her stolen presidency?

Man, what does this even mean? Are you trying to imply something here? Or was it just a really odd off-color remark?

It's a funky ironic coincidence.

Briles needs to go too. But he is worth more to the university than their president.

Since this scandal broke, Starr has greatly changed his stance on sex related criminal acts. He went after Bill Clinton hard, but now thinks instant forgiveness is the correct approach.

Speaking of this issue, everyone should watch "The Hunting Ground". Sexual assault cover ups are rampant. On Netflix.

Just this morning I was reading about how Kenneth Starr felt contrite about what he did to Bill Clinton. What a strange world we live in.

Yeah, Ken Starr's downfall being not giving a fuck about sexual misconduct would be funny except for all the rapes he ignored.

Do you not recall who kenneth starr is?

He's the former President of Baylor. That's more or less all I know about him. My apologies for jumping to conclusions. I should have done research before posting, and saw a seemingly unrelated Clinton reference that would be topical in reference to the recent story of Clinton perhaps covering up sexual abuse allegations, and simply assumed it was another thread taking cheap potshots on an unrelated issue. Carry on, everyone.

Now, now. Starr's big issue was that Clinton lied about having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky. Art Briles would never lie about what's been going on with his program.

While it sounds like Starr is worthy of severe criticism on this, maybe Baylor's Board of Regents should take a hard look at those key figures in the athletic department as well.

Briles just might skate unless further media reports uncover more. They are petrified about regressing if they fire him and they are likely right about that.

The Title IX coordinator needs to be fired

Yeah, it's almost like the case against Clinton was politically-motivated, or something!

Kinda OT but there is this home improvement show on HGTV about a couple in Waco who do home renovations. They are super mega Christians with pod people perfect kids and practically half of every episode is about their cultish love of Baylor. Baylor this, Baylor that, Baylor Baylor Baylor. They have done renovations for Baylor football team coaches, even. Every time I see this show I think "this is too perfect" and there has to be some dark underbelly to the entire thing. Then I figure I'm just being cynical and shrug it off.

My wife likes that show on netflix. I get annoyed because they put the same pottery barn shit in every house.

Jesus, fire the fucking coach already.

The coach is a symptom of a bigger problem. Fire Briles and they will hire someone else just as bad.

We need to throw away this notion that universities are run by nice people who just want to help you, they want to maximize profits just like any corporation and they need to be held responsible for their actions.

easier to replace a president than a coach that built you from not being worth two rocks. they had about 3 seasons worth a shit in their entire history before Briles.

Briles isnt god but hes somewhere close to it out there.

It's a strange coincidence given that ultimately all Kenneth Starr for on Clinton was inappropriate sisal behavior.

I don't see why that is odd or off color to remark upon.

Goes super hard after Clinton for a completely consensual affair, but ignores young women being raped on campus? Award winning logic there.

Looks like it was a coverup by the AD that didn't reach the president's office. This situation is really dire, and need to wait for the Pepper Hamilton report to explain wtf happened here.

Joe Schad's got a few tweets on Starr

At one point, Baylor board asked Ken Starr to resign as president but be chancellor and the spokesperson to announce Pepper Hamilton results

At one point, Baylor board asked Ken Starr to apologize to victims on behalf of BU and accept responsibility for what occurred on his watch

Ken Starr has told Baylor board until the fall of 2015 in no instance was the issue of sexual or interpersonal violence brought to his attn.

At one point Ken Starr was told he should announce Dr. David Garland as Interim President

Ken Starr has told BU board that Baylor has “fallen short of what we ask of one another as members of a caring Christian community.”

BU’s Ken Starr has said: “we sorrowfully repent of our individual and institutional inadequacy at times in responding…”
“…to such unspeakable instances of profound harm…”

So Ken Starr was probably told, either you have to go or Briles does, and he chose Briles? Selfish man

I take it that Briles is gone no matter what and probably the AD as well, and Starr should be gone.

My likely take on this is this that the PH report eviscerated Briles and the AD; and exonerated Starr (probably has friends in the legal trade). Starr basically called the BoR bluff by demanding them to release the PH report.
