Beer |OT2| Can't stop won't stop the fresh hop

Thats during Seattle Beer Week, so it could just be a special one off. Great Notion doesn't really distribute their kegs outside the taproom in Portland much.

Yeah possible; usually that language is used for launch events but could just be a special out of town brewer day.

We shall see I guess; they did greatly expand their brewing capacity in January.

That train left the station years ago.

LOL, and yeah I can't see the market sustaining many more wild ales.

I really don't understand the wild ale market or the sour ale market. They just sit on shelves endlessly.

Opened my bottle of Prairie/Evil Twin Bible Belt. No idea how the BA version is but I thought the regular was underwhelming. Was like a watered down cross between Even More Jesus and Bomb, but both of those on their own stood out more.

Been meaning to take a picture of my Firestone anno's (13-20); sorry not sorry for the beer porn:

The good ones move quickly, it's just that everyone is trying to get in on the game and that stuff sits.

Yeah guess that's true of most styles; crazy to me how many IPAs sit around forever too. The fact so much beer goes unsold I guess is part of what I don't understand about the industry as a whole.

Sour IPAs taking over next?

I think it's almost inevitable. IPAs were a thing, sours were a thing-- it's only a matter of time. That said, I had a fantastic sour IPA from a little brewery outside Philly (Heady Danker from Kennett Brewing).

I'm personally waiting for the hazy black wild fermented IPA aged in brandy, oak, bourbon, Yellow Tail, tequila and used motor oil barrels with macerated raspberries along with some Tahitian vanilla before being bottle conditioned for exactly 178 days in a Belgian monk's apartment (provided by inBev).

Sometimes I don't think brewery social marketing teams actually read posts...or GI was happy to see a bottle of 2015 Barleywine being poured down the drain. I guess they didn't have to shell out the refund, so there's that.

Part of me wonders if there are Untappd bots that auto-toast checkins.

How long will NE-style IPAs remain the hot trend? Gose was hot for about 2 years (still is trendy I guess) and black IPAs (quite the misnomer) before that. Sour IPAs taking over next?

Sours are pretty big in my midwest neck of the woods. That being said, we sort of missed the boat on Hazys. Only a few little guys did them and they were all sort of meh.

On another topic. I am thinking about brewing.....

Where do brewers in this thread buy their stuff? I have brewed several times with a friend who has a herms setup so I am not afraid to go past the two buckets and a plastic carboy kits haha

I buy all my stuff at local homebrew stores in Seattle. There's one near my house and another one down in South Seattle that I normally hit up. Haven't brewed in a long time, though.

There's an API that would certainly make it possible to have a Toast-bot.

There's this one guy who I used to be friends with on Untappd who would toast every checkin within a second of it being registered. Didn't matter time of day. Has to be.

Second year hop plants (cascade, fuggles, goldings) with new 16ft high trellis.

All 3 plants have sprouted and this week I will cut them all back to the crown and cover with compost.

Any gaffers going to veil anniversary saturday?

Didn't get ticket. Am sads, but got a few other events coming up. And still over the moon about being able to get some Hornswoggler. I could drink that stuff all year round and wish I could get it that way. Really don't care about how "limited" things are and hate that extra effort and stress but whatever, it is what it is. How has your luck been recently?

Seeing this happen more and more often. It has me torn. On one hand, the beer selection almost everywhere around here is excellent, but that also leads to cases where distributors over order and you have stuff like Sierra Nevada on the shelf from last summer.

The better stuff is on the shelf below.

You in va? Happy to host a share :)

Yeah. I travel down there from time to time and at releases. Next time I'll be there for sure is for Foolery in August, but I'm sure I'll be there again before that.
Missed you two times ago I was down there when our schedules couldn't work out iirc.

Unrelated. Anyone see big bottles of KBS? Pretty sure I saw a ton of them at whole foods yesterday and were gone today. First time I've seen that.

Got a case of each hanging out in the cellar. Got 4+ years on them so far. Both are in that "If you could only drink one beer forever" category.

Near the end of 2015, a local shop had a random bottle of 2010 Rochefort 10 buried in a box. They were stocking things and noticed the label was different than the others. Was a great day.

Sigh. Feel the urge to get some quads this weekend now even though I bought a six pack of Mars.

Looks like Orval and Rochefort 10.
Like I said, better stuff is on the shelf below. :)

Had the Stillwater / Casita Cerveceria collab On Fleek last night, which is a 13% Imperial Stout. Over-carbonated and no attempt to hide the booze. Big on the chocolate/cocoa flavors, and a bit of that green pepper twang that I never like in stouts.

Loved last year's On Fleek. Looking forward to getting more this year.

Finally found Firestone's Parabola here in Corvallis today. Talked them into letting me grab two bottles.

Tried an old rasputin stout today. It was pretty good. It's like 70ibus so why does it not taste as bitter as say an IPA that's 50IBUs? Even my Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was waaaaaay more bitter.
