I can't look at that and NOT see Daredevil.

Sorry, but that horrible movie is not going to just disappear. Casting the same actor that was the lead role in one of the worst superhero movies ever makes zero sense to me. Changing the costume isn't going to change the perception. When there are dozens of actors who could have been given the chance to play the role, they give it to one of the biggest failures in superhero movie history? It's a terrible, terrible casting decision.

well is more easy for me as I never watched more than 10 mins of dare devil, anyways only time will tell

People underestimate Affleck, since daredevil and Gigli he'd then proceed to make gone Baby Gone, the town and Argo, trio of awesome movies.

Then again, what the hell do I know, I didn't even want to watch this movie, I just came to read the thread because I think people overreacting to this news is hilarious.

He went on to direct three pretty good films and no one is questioning is talent as a director. He seems to be his best as an actor when he is directing the film and has a say in just about everything.

Hopefully he decided to direct the solo Batman films.

When reading this thread I turned to my friend and said "Guess who's playing the new Batman."

"Wait, let me guess." He replied.

"Hint: who's the actor you hate the most?"

"Ben Affleck?"

Then lolz of disbelief and frustration were shared.

People are reacting like Bale did a great job as Batman. His portrayal of Batman was horrible. I think Affleck as Batman/Wayne is going to be the least of the problems with this movie.

I missed the entire announcement.

What happened with Bale? Thought I read he was offered 50 million to reprise his role?

Interesting choice anyway

Affleck has redeemed himself in the public's eye with his last few films.

He was never offered that. Stupid out of context quote which everyone ran with. A friend of his said he "could make up to 50 million" if he came back cause WB would just throw money at him.

Even his roles in Argo and The Town were merely above average/passable. His ability to direct shouldn't have any bearing on the role of Batman, especially when he's not even helming the project.

My only hope at this point is that Snyder manages to at least get back to dominating atmosphere in the ways he was able to in 300 and Watchmen. His influence was barely felt in Man of Steel.

I love Affleck as a director and like him when he's playing some goofy supporting characters, but I can't picture him as an effective Batman. All he has is the chin.

Book marking this thread for two years from now when the tears have aged into a fine wine.

I really hope the movie surpasses the its lowest expectations and captures the hearts and mind of the mass public so Affleck remains Batman for the next 10 years.

I can't wait to hear Kevin Smith's view. Oh Man, Fat MAn on Batman is going to be great!!

I don't see why people are so upset. I don't like Affleck's acting (just a couple of exceptions there), but it's not like Bale's Batman or MoS were so good that him being involved would be an offense.

Maybe I found MoS so underwhelming that I don't care at all.

Honestly, Bale's unfaithful portrayal of Bruce Wayne has to do with the TDK Trilogy as a whole, so, it's Nolan more than anything. At the same time, I see no other reason to have Bale return other than that people used to him -- he did his thing, it was decent for what it was, but that's it.

I have no problem with the choice of the actor. I haven't seen Daredevil, so, that's not a problem either (and I don't t think it would be either way -- remember Human Torch / Captain America?). As far as I'm concerned, the character's portrayal as far as writing is concerned is what matters.

Can someone point me to a role where Affleck was successful at playing someone who's not an "awe shucks, pretty good guy?"

An actor can do an amazing job, but without audience he/she has little to on chance with the studios. Karl urban was always a wet drem for some fans he never had a chance.

Karl Urban was great as Judge Dredd, so I'm a bit happy this may give a window of opportunity for another Judge Dredd movie.

The Dredd movie looked great considering what a small budget it had. I'd love to see a sequel shot in high frame rate 3d. The style and universe suit it so well.

Karl Urban and Dredd are a homerun. One of the most inspired comic-book movies with a shoestring budget I've seen. It isn't shakespearian...but it hit the right notes for a violent backstory.

STOP DOING WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND READ THIS OTHER PETITION

Holy shit, my sides hurt, the melodrama is palpable.

The entirety of humanity: Ben Affleck is not the Batman we need, or deserve...or want.

Because Man of Steel was such an incredible movie and Ben Affleck may very well be the worst possible choice for Batman. I mean I know we wish we could forget Daredevil but we can't lest we're doomed to repeat it.

Emphasis mine, this is the most precious thing ever. I want to print it and hang it on my wall.
