If the pictured 360 version looks great on my TV, the PS3 version must look out of this world by comparison.

Well, I must have the special Jesus edition of Bioshock 2, as my 360 copy looks like neither of those. It's clean and crisp and not even close to blurry.
These shots are direct feed captures and completely accurate, however. Flaws tend to stand out when you examine still shots like this. In motion on your TV, it's a lot less obvious. This is the same stuff Eurogamer always picks up on.

Anyways, here's another shot (look at the door in the distance). The 360 shot was taken while the player was closer to the door, but it still looks worse for some reason. Very odd.

This time with button prompts...

Going for the 360-version today and I just wanted to know something about online. Yeah, online, never thought I would care about multiplayer in Bioshock, but, uh... Someone enjoyed it? Is it fun/аddicting? What about lag-factor(i'm from eu)? And how long does it take to rank up?

That Adonis Luxury Resort shot looks... wrong.

It's like the 360 version hasn't loaded the texture or messed up LoD. A common UE3 problem.

Waiting for my PS3 copy.

OK, here's one more comparison showing higher resolution particles on 360. Again, this seems to be very common with PS3 games.

The texture detail on those... things towards the bottom-left-hand area (just behind the statue) in the PS3 shot is ridiculous.

What the hell is up with these screenshots? Either this game has serious issues with texture pop-in or 2K just plain suck at optimisation.

If you had the 360 version of the first, which was superior, dark10x, why not just get the 360 version of the second?
Collect-ability and friends.

All of my friends own PS3s and I actually use the trophies as comparison in addition to the potential for actually trying multiplayer. I don't really know anyone who games much on the 360 anymore. :\

The second reason would be library building. There is just something less appealing about collecting on the 360 as it seems like a dangerous system to rely on in the long term (failure wise). Plus, there is always a risk of getting one of those shitty recycled cases with the gaping holes in them on 360. I know, it's strange, but that's how I role. The original XBOX is one of the least desirable systems to collect and I kind of regret not buying more PS2 versions of games from that gen.

However, the experience is most important so a superior 360 port would have me selecting that version regardless.

Check my post on the previous page regarding the framerate.

The difference in those screens might have something to do with the LOD-Pop in which is common with U3 engine games.

How sensitive are you to framerate issues? Did you notice the constant slowdown in the original Bioshock PS3 port? I mean, it was never smooth. I only ask as people have different tolerance levels for this stuff.

I'm hoping I can get a collectors edition without a pre-order, so I'll probably go with whichever version I can find in that form.

Anyone else getting strange pixelation on the edge of the screen during multi-player?

It's green and blue along the bottom and right side of the screen, but only happens during gameplay and not the menus.

I'm upscaling to 1080p but also happens in 720p

Any ideas?

I'm not exactly sensitive to framedrops (playing games on a low spec PC makes you insensitive) but I do notice them. When the framerate is locked it stays smooth throughout most of the action and gameplay. When shit gets really hectic, it drops (happened once).

Nothing out of the ordinary if you ask me. I noticed the slowdown in the original port, yes, and Bioshock 2 runs better.

Physics are still janky though.

I found the Rapture Edition without pre-ordering btw.

so guys I'm installing this today (too much MAG) and have a question, DX10 or DX9? any significant difference? oh and I guess no pad support helps selling more console copies, MW2, ME2 and now this, shame!

Absolutely loving this. The gameplay mechanics are better than the first - EXCEPT for the research camera. Its harder to work out how to max it now.

Got the PS3 version and couldn't be more surprised. Its worlds apart to their first effort understandably. There is slight slow down in heavier scenes but for the most part the game is crisp, clean and very well done. Colour me shocked....

Well, Modern Warfare 1 and Mass Effect 1 both lacked pad support on the PC, so it was no surprise when the sequels were the same. Bioshock, however, had fantastic pad support on the PC, so it's disappointing to see that it was removed.

I don't see WHY it was a problem, though. Other games have offered great pad support without compromising the PC interface. With the original game, they even switched to a 360 style interface when pad support was enabled. That was a perfect solution.

I must say that the multi-player is bloody brilliant.

I'm at level 5 and the progression system is awesome (love the challen......I mean trials), levels are varied and the weapons and plasmids are super fun.

One complaint, no host migration, but apart from that great job 2k Marin :D

mi 360 tag is LinceSPAIN, I bought the PC CE version of Bioshock 2 though.

edit: the collector's edition looks and feels stunning, I just wish the had went with a tin case for the game... but the Little Sister figure on the other hand is fantastic, definitely a collectors' edition worth owning.

No. The first I was constantly tense; this one I'm not. And that's not to take anything away from 2, as the situation is far less reliant on you being timid.

And how frequent are the escort missions? I'm asking because I hate escort missions with all my heart. It was the worst part of Bioshock. :(

That's extremely upsetting to read. The first game wasn't scary at all, so to hear that this one is even less so is disappointing.

With Jordon Thomas at the helm, I was actually convinced that this game would be scarier than the original by quite a bit, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's a shame the game ended up as it did. I wonder if, perhaps, Thomas taking the lead role prevented him from really injecting the game with the same kind of love he gave Fort Frolic and The Cradle in Thief III. :\

I still can't get the game to go beyond the install phase. :/ I've spent the past hour or so going selecting content server area after content server area.

The 5 dollar question:

How is the mouse input support this time around?

Was removing 360 pad support (cause evidently they couldn't fix Bio1 with it in) beneficial?

What's up with the voice acting on the second assisting character you meet? Can't remember his name, but he sounds like Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator. I thought it was some sort of joke at first. Man, he does not pull that stuff off at all. :lol

I'm enjoying it, it's addicting. First levels are really easy to obtain, and after you unlocks the first plasmids, like the geyser one or the charge it really gets fun and you can do many cool combinations/tricks

at around 0:20 seconds of my video you can see the geyser one :lol

One thing I do see is that particles seem to be half resolution on PS3 (which is very common) to save bandwidth. That suggests that they took framerate more seriously this time.

Anyone play the PS3 version yet? I must know how smooth the framerate is (especially compared to the shitty original port).

I've put a few hours into the PS3 version and it looks fantastic. I've seen no noticeable framerate drops at all, and surprisingly no UE3 texture pop issues. It's not blurry in the least, it's crisp, but not terribly jaggy. Reminds me of Batman: AA.

Also, in the options, there's an "Unlock Framerate" option (off by default), that allows a more variable framerate at the occasional expense of some graphical effects (according to the game).

So there's no way in telling which one they've used for the screen captures actually in either version.

Some night and day shit right there.

I really don't mind stuff like that. Sure, it looks worse in a blown up image straight from the buffer, but I doubt the difference is as big when you see it in motion on your TV.

So, how is the game, Truant? You and I had similar feelings about the first game and the necessity/direction of the sequel.

I've only played past what people are referring to as the tuturial area, and it didn't leave a great impression. It wasn't bad, but I always got the feeling of the game being approached as fan fiction. The quality of everything is obviously very professional, but the way things are presented, the story beats, etc. just give me that vibe. People are saying the game does get a lot better after the area I just finished, so I'm definitely excited to see what happens next.

Like I said earlier, my main problem is that the game does a very poor job of re-introducing Rapture to you. They added a lot of cool stuff, but most of it is just there without any sort of real introduction, like how the first was very particular in the way it presented new information to the player. Here things just happen, and I constantly get the feeling that I managed to skip the opening levels.

So far the game's combat is much more satisfying, and I am feeling like I am back in Rapture again. I suppose that was the intent, as I wasn't expecting a "reboot" of the series or anything.

I would agree that the "tutorial" level is lackluster in comparison to the first game, but once you hit the first real level, the setpieces feel great, albeit self-contained.. I am a bit of an explorer, and I am enjoying things so far.
