I find it offensive to you saying, "fuck cops." Also the fact that you are saying nobody cares about his cop friends are or his feelings, just proves you are disconnected from this because it's on the internet! Would you really be saying for his friends to get different jobs to his face? You are generalizing when you say fuck cops, and doing the exact same thing people do to blacks, which is how this racist shit starts!

No, it's not the same thing. Blacks can't choose to be black. Cops can choose to be cops. It's a job title, not a class of citizen. Also, I don't give a fuck that you're offended either.

Oh fucking please. It's because if they do speak up they will get fucking canned and become a black sheep.

AKA PART OF THE PROBLEM

If you do not do what is in your power to see to it that the people that you serve are actually being protected, you are complicit. You are not a neutral party for saying nothing. You are not a neutral party for ignoring it.

Read it again: YOU. ARE. COMPLICIT.

Oh fucking please. It's because if they do speak up they will get fucking canned and become a black sheep.

JESUS WTF!! Just think about what you said for a goddamn second...

If I were employed by an organization that had a history firing/harassing people for SPEAKING UP ABOUT MURDERING INOCCENT CIVILIANS...read that for another second...you think that's a nice place to be? I'd get the fuck out of there.

They should find other lines of work.

"Fuck cops" is a generalization that exists because nobody wants to type out "Fuck the fact that police organizations, when statistically analyzed, seem to be extremely racist. Fuck the lack of accountability for cops who do a poor job. And fuck the blue wall of silence that exists."

Sorry, it isn't the same as a racist generalization. Racists don't mean "fuck these blacks in particular."

Being a cop is not remotely the same as being black. Anyone can stop being a cop if they don't like how the world views cops. I can't stop being black. Ridiculous.

If the system itself has it so that these good cops can't speak up against the shit that happens, the system is seriously fucked up and they are literally a part of the problem.

You need to calm down. I am aware that you can choose a career and not a race, however generalizing should never be done. I am also done responding to you because you do not care that I am a person and have feelings too.

And the generalizations aren't the same. Police organizations as a whole statistically ARE racist, they have been shown to not punish crimes committed by bad cops, and the Blue Wall of Silence does exist. "Fuck cops" is simply a shorthand to say "fuck that police organizations as a whole statistically ARE racist, that they sometimes fail to punish crimes committed by cops, and that the Blue Wall of Silence exists." Racist generalizations are nothing like that.

You could say: "fuck racist cops," or "fuck shit cops".

Sorry your feelings got hurt while actual, real-life people get physically hurt

No, I will not calm down. Your stance is poor and you should feel bad about it. I will generalize any fucking job title I see fit to generalize. Painters are messy. Musicians are flaky. NeoGAF mods are underpaid. Cops are pieces of shit.

You could say: "fuck racist cops," or "fuck shit cops".

Except neither of those showcase that police departments are fucked at the organizational and cultural level in some cases. "Fuck cops" is needed because entire organizations need to change as does the culture that promotes the Blue Wall.

Are you really going to continue to derail this thread -- which is not about the feelings of cops, by the way -- because you're incapable of understanding the implication most of the rest of us get intuitively, which is that when someone says "fuck cops" in the context of a shooting, they're not talking about good cops?

I think the big problem isn't just militarization of police, but the ease in which guns can purchased that is propped up as justification of the militarization of police.

Someone mentioned that story about darkness and how the cop couldn't tell if the person was wielding a knife or a toothbrush. Someone mentioned how in their country they don't need a gun to put down someone wielding a toothbrush, but I wonder how many people own guns where that person lives.

It's a combination of legitimate fear of crime, the racist stereotyping from jumpy cops, and the arms race that exists between the street and the law enforcement officials that are tasked with defending the streets and policing the drug trade.

These stories are just headlines picked out that show the most egregious examples of abuse that has to be treated in a systematic way that relies on a different policing philosophy. A huge part of this is the war on drugs and how it has inflamed racial tension that already existed within the police force. This is beyond just a police problem. It's a social problem that every layer of government has their hand in.

The first thing you can do to fix the police in the USA is to stop forcing them to make pointless drug arrests that rely on heavily on racial profiling. That's what I believe would be a good start to fixing this problem.

Oh fucking please. It's because if they do speak up they will get fucking canned and become a black sheep.

You'd think if most cops were good cops, it would be the other way around.

You know, with the bad apples being the ones afraid of getting canned and becoming "black sheep."

Can someone quote that long statistical post about police abuse/data pls.
For what, they'll just ignore it.

Actually, can someone post or link to it? I haven't seen it before, and from the way you two are talking about it, it seems like it paints a very specific picture.

No, it's not the same thing. Blacks can't choose to be black. Cops can choose to be cops. It's a job title, not a class of citizen. Also, I don't give a fuck that you're offended either.
Precisely. Regardless of whether or not a cop is good or bad, accepting that job right now means accepting all of the perceptions of the police created by the members who preceded them. That's the reality of the situation, whether that cop likes it or not. They should know what they're getting into.

The ones in the incident or are you just talking about LAPD cops in general. Because dash cams still work without antenna, they only won't capture audio.

Kind of unrelated, but do you agree with policy changes that would make on duty cops have to wear cam helms with audio/video?

Is there a video? You'd think people would start filming every interaction with the police these days. Not saying the mother is lying but like the cops her testimony isn't exactly trustworthy.

Just to get it out of the way, there are good cops that has nothing to do with the piece of potentially wrong decision that ended up in someone losing their lives.

OT: RIP :( Hope there will be some clarity and more information on the case soon so appropriate actions can take place.

No, this isn't true. They all stick up for each other and never come foward. It's like the no snitch thing in gangs.

That's not a very good reason for covering up for murder.

Who says I'm saying they are covering up murder?

Do you guys want cops to go out and shit on their fellow colleagues during a fucking investigation?

The system IS broken, but I hardly blame the cops not killing every other black kid walking down the street. They are not the problem.

Edit: Clarity.

Cops do lie at times. But so do moms about their children.

This is true. Anyone can lie to manipulate opinions. Cops and witnesses. If people make it harder for Police to do their job properly we will see a lack of honest good Police. If Cops abuse their power they will get the wrath of the public. Only way to proceed is mutual respect for both the law and the public regardless of gender or race. The police risk their lives daily to try to maintain some form of peace. We just don't need them going Judge Dredd on random people. I do agree that there needs to be monitoring and live feeds to protect all involved in these encounters and also encourage the officers to maintain their oaths at all times.

Pretty much. The way that's worded the good cops are the one's who have to be on the look out for trouble. That smacks of a system that is flawed.

Who says I'm saying they are covering up murder?

If they have information that things in any situation were not done by the book, they should be first in line to spill the truth.

I don't like the generalization of that, but I guess I can't change anything.

You forgot "Fuck good cops who don't call out shit and racist cops"

Those are not good cops then.

Also I am done with making the thread about this, let's get back on topic. I am sorry if I offended anyone.

Soo.. you're saying we should legalize marijuana?
:lol

Who says I'm saying they are covering up murder?

Do you guys want cops to go out and shit on their fellow colleagues during a fucking investigation?

The system IS broken, but I hardly blame the cops not killing every other black kid walking down the street as the major problem.

Yes? If they are bad cops don't defend them. How is this so hard to understand?

Is there a video? You'd think people would start filming every interaction with the police these days. Not saying the mother is lying but like the cops her testimony isn't exactly trustworthy.

Well sometimes it's hard to think past your emotions and do something like whip out your cell phone and start recording. There's no footage of Brown having a clip emptied into him on the streets of Ferguson either. Most people's reactions to a shooting or impending conflict isn't to document police abuse, its to defend/shield/protect themselves and their friends and family. Or just stand by in shock.

It's the same reason a lot of these fight videos on youtube start like a minute into the actual conflict, unless they have a lot of shit talking.

I did not to be honest, and again I apologize. I also understand that this is about a black man being shot, who may have been facing down. I let my own feelings get in the way about this.
