Black Ops 6 physical launch sales are 10% lower compared with Modern Warfare 3 in the UK. This is due to a drop in sales on Xbox.

Unless you're a collector, there is zero incentive to buy this game on Xbox imo. You're only interested in the campaign? Get GPU for a month and play it. You're interested in Multiplayer? You'll need some form of Gamepass anyway, get GPU. I'm actually surprised the drop isn't more significant.

A 10% drop in total physical sales means xbox sales are basically next to zero.

80% of sales were already on Playstation last year.

Why would they get any new subscriptions from CoD? It's most likely recurring players and they'd be on Game Pass already from the online tax sub.

Unless they break down the type of sub this isn't going to do anything for them PR wise and if they really say anything about GPU you'd know there's no subscriber increase.

Not how percentages work though... a 10% drop from a 20% share is only 2% of said 20%. That's like saying Xbox UK sales went from 2M to 1.8M.

If they said sales dropped "to" 10% of total sales compared to last year, that would have been very different.

Anyway, more important, though, is that the UK is the Xbox's biggest market in the EU, so across the EU, this number is likely a lot worse. This is all only part of the equation, though. We need to see how much the overall drop is compared to the overall gain of GP subs.

Is it commensurated by the growth of GP subscribers? This would be the more meaningful question. The drop is sort of exepected
Most likely, no.

Most of the hardcore Xbox gamers are already subscribed to Game Pass already, so they will just get to play the game without additional cost.

And those COD players that already weren't subscribed to Game Pass will probably subscribe for a month or two to play COD before dropping the subscription again. If it couldn't entice them before, chances are that it wouldn't entice them now.

The net-result would most likely be negative for Xbox here, which is why we haven't seen much "Play COD on Game Pass" marketing from them.

wondering how digital sales look like, most comments online were about people didn’t knowing how download games so that suggest quite big chunk being digital. Regardless, 10% if far less that I expected.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
only 10 percent?

But like clarky clarky says ...that means it should be around 90 percent PS5 now....

The gamepass effect!

But I thank them for it. Best COD in years and all included in my cheap 3 years. Im gonna ride it till the wheels fall off.

Just a 10% physical drop even with the game on game pass, while sequels like Rebirth saw as high as 30% drop in physical sales as a sequel, is pretty good turnaround.

which is why we haven't seen much "Play COD on Game Pass" marketing from them.

This is simply not true. There's game pass branding on the console dash, xbox's game page, youtube ads etc.

Not sure what other kind of marketing there would be ? They're not gonna advertise the game pass version on the Sony website or the PS5 dash, where you'd be most likely to see it.

I thought it was smashing records or something?

Don't know about smashing records, but it is currently on top of all the platforms it's on.

10% is really not much if that's the Gamepass effect considering there are already 25m subscribers . But this is just physical so let's see.

Doesn't seem too bad 10%, this 10% is prob about the ratio of ppl going from physical to digital every year. Digital sales will prob be the real measure.

The 80% from last year counts the significant bump from PS5 bundles. Last year, the game was bundled with PS5 consoles.

Only a 10% drop in total sales actually suggests the GamePass reduction on Xbox was much more muted than in many other games.

What percentage of COD sales in launch weekend came from Playstation bundles? I don't think we have access to that information do we?

So 10% of total sales, who means 50% of Xbox sales. If this replicate for digital ratio, not good news. Microsoft would need long term subscribers to recoup.
They must have known that before they did this.

How much did game pass on xbox grow as a result of this move though?

Amazing how people are always just ‘subscribing for a month before dropping it’ anytime you guys post this hopium.

Apparently, COD players were always paying $70 just to play the campaign and have zero interest in multiplayer. Even though we’ve had COD games with no SP component before, and Activision confirming that the bulk of players play MP.

With STALKER 2 in November and Indiana Jones in December…I’m not sure lots of folks will be canceling their subscriptions anyway.
