Would be surprising if they don’t want to generate more profit and revenue from this purchase. What is your point in stating obvious? I myself was explaining multiple times to some kids (assumption here, because I cannot believe that an adult could not be able to comprehend simple things like this) that when you acquire an asset that it is not consumable, it is not like you have lost money (especially if you made the purchase with money you own (not borrowed)), you now own an asset that is worth the money you have paid for it.
Different case is if over time this asset value increases or decreases and if that asset is able to generate addition revenue beyond depreciation or appreciation of its value. Eg. When you buy are brand new normal car, it usually depreciate in value straight after you leave dealership as it is not new anymore, then usually over first 2 years it depreciate further by 20-50% depending on the brand. Fact is that after some years some cars can get a cult/classic status and are worth much more. Eg. 2. If you buy a unbranded watch it will probably depreciate in value straight away, while if you buy eg. limited edition Patek you are probably seeing increase in its value within first couple of years - here your asset has appreciated in value.
But this is only one side of acquiring something, if a company buy, let’s say, a new machine they want it increase efficiency of production or increase its sales volume (producing more), physical items are quite different vs eg. Service companies, game developers etc. As machines wear down over time, need service and sometimes break down, still even if value of said machine depreciates, its inconsequential as its primary objective was achieved.
With publisher like ABK that was already making billions in revenue and profit on regular basis it is safe bet, it will generate revenue and profit for you (if you don’t mess it up to much during merger process causing its value to decrease). ABK value is more than just the CoD franchise, it is multiple other IPs that they own, as well as multiple other games that they actively develop/release, like Diablo, Overwach, Candy Crush, Wolfenstein, Doom, StarCraft, WoW etc. Most very profitable.
