Black Ops 6 physical launch sales are 10% lower compared with Modern Warfare 3 in the UK. This is due to a drop in sales on Xbox.

Math is def not mathing in this thread.

The split for MW3's launch physical sales in the UK last year was 80% PS and 20% Xbox. A 10% drop in total sales for BLOPS 6, with the PS share of sales remaining mostly the same, means Xbox sales dropped by 50%.

If that's true then this is one hell of a cannibalization rate. %50 of sales that usually run at least $70 a pop is insane.

Microsoft better be making bank on new subs and not just losing existing subs that used to buy COD in addition to their Gamepass.

Not sure about significant. Xbox has the lowest player base by far out of all the platforms. Xbox accounts for about 8% of total cod players I believe.
Wait, that doesn't seem right. Is that including mobile CoD?

I know it's only physical charts, but if that's similar % drop with digital, then damn.

I bought it digitally (PS5), there's probably fuck all on the disc again this year.

So they lost about about 2-3 million in sales. Not really insignificant is it?

What percentage of COD sales in launch weekend came from Playstation bundles? I don't think we have access to that information do we?

I missed out that the PS 5 slim actually showed up a few weeks after COD launch. They sold a very decent amount of the Slim COD bundles…but that was weeks after launch week.

Leaning towards the 50% drop on Xbox metric since the text in the OP says the PS5 sales were steady.

Digital data normally arrives end of the week.

Although he usually waits till the end of the month to give it out. But this is a big release so will probably give it out early.

Not how percentages work though... a 10% drop from a 20% share is only 2% of said 20%. That's like saying Xbox UK sales went from 2M to 1.8M.

If they said sales dropped "to" 10% of total sales compared to last year, that would have been very different.

Anyway, more important, though, is that the UK is the Xbox's biggest market in the EU, so across the EU, this number is likely a lot worse. This is all only part of the equation, though. We need to see how much the overall drop is compared to the overall gain of GP subs.
Its a total drop of 10%, its exactly how percentages work.

I think you're mixed up because that 10% drop is the overall physical sales with the PlayStation steady sales included .

So if the sales dropped overall while PlayStation sales remained from last year that's about 50% of Xbox physical sales down from last year . ( This is without me doing the actual math)

Napkin maths. Actual numbers pulled from my ass.

100k in sales. 80k on PS, 20k xbox.
Sales down 10% (10k) most of which on xbox.
Sales now at 90k.
A 50% drop in xbox sales.

Prediction: We won't hear a single official word about Game Pass subs for months to come. They'll want to keep this very guarded. When the leaks eventually hit, they'll be that GP subs didn't increase as much as their internal targets projected and/or they didn't stay subscribed.

Doesn't say a lot since this is physical only. I don't think the overall drop in sold copies will be huge - PlayStation is still a huge market for the series and people will continue to play there with their friends.

CoD 📲 has collapsed.

At least there was some article saying Warzone flopped badly.
Collapsed? Lay off the crack this early mate.

Edit: Wait my apologies, I don't speak emoji. I missed the mobile part. No idea how its doing on mobile, I don't play.

This number seems huge. As other users noted, 50% sales from a platform is huge. That's millions of units, millions of dollars. How many subs will they require to regain that?. Also, hasn't gamepass reached saturation on Xbox consoles?( From what I thought I knew, almost every person on Xbox has gamepass). So wouldn't the true test be gains in sub count?. Pc sales and if there is any migration might be a bigger test along with Xbox consoles

One thing I heard whilst browsing my local Game store located at the back of a Sports Direct (lol) they got one, you read that correctly, one copy of BO3 on Xbox and like five for the PS5.

"King" of retail Mike Ashley not buying stock. :messenger_tongue:

Yeah it was everywhere but online Warzone mobile.

The rest of the franchise seems to be doing pretty well i guess.

Of course it does.

Its the first indicator we have on how Gamepass is affecting sales of one of the industries biggest games.

Wut?
We’ve seen this impact years ago. Halo Infinite, from 2021? And that’s just one example.

Let's be fair, it's the only Xbox game worth buying.

Years old port of Sea of Thieves outsold Stellar Blade quite handily, after you claimed it was going to flop.

It’s well known your takes on Xbox games are frankly bananas 🤣

Gamepass subscribers pay money for the subscription, ya know.

Not up to half of the Xbox userbase is on GamePass Ultimate.

Subscriber count will increase, at the new, higher monthly rate. And Black Ops 6 will likely launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 and sell very well there.

Very likely net positive for Xbox.

More Gamepass players also means more MTX revenue too.

Your not seriously comparing Halo infinites campaign launch on gamepass to the launch of arguably the industries biggest paid game on the service are you?

We are taking about the impact of gamepass on COD sales. We've never seen a title this big launch day one on Gamepass.

Nothing comes close, not even remotely.

Haven't Xbox user's got use to not buying games anyway, and surprised by the above graph, PC gamers playing more than both consoles, that didn't happen in the past with COD.

Not surprised by the mobile numbers though.

I’m correcting you that we’ve long known the impact of GamePass on sales of an expensive AAA game.

Why change the context? The outcome - sales attenuation - was never in doubt. What new thing did we really learn?

Physical game sales data....... Thinking that XBOX is 81% digital (and rising) that tells you how irrelevant the data is to draw conclusions about the "Gamepass effect".

I dont know where the interest is. Launching on Gamepass was going to mean a reduction in sales on Xbox, the question is to know if these will be compensated by the increase in subscriptions and spending on microtransactions by those who previously bought. And this will not be known until we have the complete data.
