Black Ops: Cold War direct sequel to BLOPS I (includes zombies). No upgrade path, next gen to cost more

Nothing is ever as it seems in a gripping single-player Campaign, where players will come face-to-face with historical figures and hard truths, as they battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more.

Beyond the Campaign, players will bring a Cold War arsenal of weapons and equipment into the next generation of Multiplayer and Zombies experiences.

So BLOPS 1 is still canon but nothing after that is any more? Or is this just being squeezed in between 1 & 2? BLOPS 2 was a pretty direct sequel already so I don't really see how they could do that.

Descend into the dark center of this global conspiracy alongside iconic characters Woods, Mason and Hudson

I'm buying this.

Black Ops Cold War will drop fans into the depths of the Cold War's volatile geopolitical battle of the early 1980s

BLOPSII starts in 1986. This is probably One Last Mission for Mason because he's retired in 1986.

That's 505 games, Activision and take two/2k who've unveiled shitty upgrade paths?

Crazy to think EA are offering a free upgrade for their sports games at this rate.

Another Call of Duty game?
Activision is doing an anti-consumer move?

Wow

Sounds the same as 505. Buy the all singing version and you get the upgrade. Squeezing people for extra cash without even announcing what's in the next gen versions. Scumbags.

I don't know why anyone thought these greedy publishers were ever going to get on board with the whole "free upgrade to next gen" thing.

It could have been done last gen as well but it didn't happen. These people like money too much and if they can get it twice they will.

When will Treyarch leave the black ops universe alone? I guess I should give them credit for not simply renaming it black ops 5.

Didn't WaW start it all though, I'm not sure what year this game takes place at but it could be before black
Ops 1 and after WaW, that's a large gap.

You know what is sad about this? Some people are going to do it. I don't know if that is too much money or no self control or both. Fuck greedy publishers.

I agree, but I also feel like it will just be the PC "current gen" version at higher settings. "next gen" price increase required.

Maybe it won't be and we'll all be surprised by the "next gen" versions. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It was always obvious very few would actually do it, or have a spin on it that would benefit them. I have no idea what form of insanity possessed MS to push this whole "smart delivery" thing and make people think that every third party publisher for every game would be gun-ho for free next gen upgrades on Xbox systems. They should have announced free upgrades for their games (without the marketing name) then left each third party to announce what they intent to do rather than setup impossible expectations.

Part of me kind of hopes all publishers follow suit and increase the prices on all their games going forward. I'll just quit this hobby entirely and try out this book reading thing I've been hearing so much about.

It's part of a marketing campaign that is focused on user base retention more than anything else. Hence the whole BC thing is also a prominent feature in their current marketing for next gen. They cannot afford for their current active users to jump ship so they are doing what they can to try and keep them on board going into next gen. If they had a bunch of launch window first party exclusives to entice their current user base to stick with them then they wouldn't have to lean so hard on things like this.

It's been 8 years since Treyarch developed a worthy campaign, it's been 5 years there's been a single player experience from Treyarch. It's been 8 years since Treyarch's COD was fun in MP. Not sure which studios are working on SP and where Treyarch's working on in this game.

I forgot. was BO1 WW1/ WW2 guns and shit ? if yes I am going to pass. i hate those guns and i hate WW1/2 stuff

if its something like BO3 i am all in

Infact, it had some of the coolest selection of guns from any call of duty:

M16, Galil, Ak47, G11, , Famas, Aug, MP5 - to just name a few.

Looking forward to cod cold war, but recent rumors, that development was rough because of a tight time schedule leaves me cautious.

yes the troubled development has me worried

Now that's commie talk, son. Reading books is damn unAmerican!

Good luck buying it next year for next gen if you wanna play multiplayer. Then the game is already half way into the grave before the next cod arrives.

Also would be nice if we could buy the multiplayer only for 30 euro, but who am I kidding.

Strange.
Or maybe not.
Welp

This seems like the most pointless release ever with Modern Warfare absolutely booming on all fronts right now.
I can't see them topping MW, the way the gunplay feels, the amount of content and the campaign are all really excellent quality.

If the campaign was really excellent in the new game, I'd consider picking it up.

But their next gen games will also be more expensive
The physical edition won't cost more than £60. I can live with it. Activision puts out very few good games anyway so it might cost an extra £100 over a generation, which I accept.

How to mess up a good thing 101...

As interested as I am in a Cold War setting. COD needs to move to a platform system. COD is huge right now w/ MW + Warzone. Continue to iterate on MW 2019-new maps, Zombies, new skins, new weapons, warzone updates, battle pass. That is the path forward for the franchise. Making new games every single year is expensive, moving to new games every 3 years would significantly reduce development costs and would allow for a longer revenue tail-continuing to make money on micros. MW's store could actually be reworked to increase revenue-the current selection of daily selections that are randomized per user is incredibly inefficient and most certainly does not maximize revenue. Furthermore, if they added Zombies to MW that would further add opportunities to monetize the game.

It should also be noted that we might have two battlepasses: Warzone/MW and Black Ops. This will also split the player population.

The next gen upgrade bundle is a shame. The free upgrade/smart delivery route should be the way to go-remove barriers to entry so customers will play your game and spend more money on micros. Also if COD goes to $70, expect the rest of the industry to follow.
