Black Ops: Cold War direct sequel to BLOPS I (includes zombies). No upgrade path, next gen to cost more

How to mess up a good thing 101...

As interested as I am in a Cold War setting. COD needs to move to a platform system. COD is huge right now w/ MW + Warzone. Continue to iterate on MW 2019-new maps, Zombies, new skins, new weapons, warzone updates, battle pass. That is the path forward for the franchise. Making new games every single year is expensive, moving to new games every 3 years would significantly reduce development costs and would allow for a longer revenue tail-continuing to make money on micros. MW's store could actually be reworked to increase revenue-the current selection of daily selections that are randomized per user is incredibly inefficient and most certainly does not maximize revenue. Furthermore, if they added Zombies to MW that would further add opportunities to monetize the game.

It should also be noted that we are now going to have two battlepasses: Warzone/MW and Black Ops. This will also split the player population.

The next gen upgrade bundle is a shame. The free upgrade/smart delivery route should be the way to go-remove barriers to entry so customers will play your game and spend more money on micros. Also if COD goes to $70, expect the rest of the industry to follow.
Do we know they are going to have two battlepasses? That doesn't make much sense. I'm pretty sure Warzone will be retooled to fit Cold War no? Same map but 80's themed and all the weapons and skins will be new?

Actually I still have no idea how they will go about this...

Heard that they changed the trailer today because it has tiananmen square in it. And Activision's master Tencent was probably not pleased so they removed it.

Just goes to show Tencent really is just an extension of the Chinese government.

It could be a unified battlepass but I imagine that integrating both MW loadouts and Black Ops loadouts would prove difficult. They certainly can't pull the Warzone stuff from the game-lots of purchased skins, battle pass unlocks, etc.

Suffice to say this is going to be a bit of a mess...exactly why I wish they would continue to iterate on MW/Warzone. Add more weapons to the game, add Zombies, retool the store. Would keep revenue up and costs down.

You should really hold off on your theories until the game launches, that's just pure speculation about battle passes on your part

This seems like the most pointless release ever with Modern Warfare absolutely booming on all fronts right now.
I agree, this might seem like the one time where they actually truly hurt their playerbase by releasing a new COD. No other COD game has had the retention and increased playerbase(MP and Warzone since most people think it is just Warzone) comparable to this one.

I won't be surprised if Cold War significantly undersells compared to their expectations.

I edited my post to make sure it was clear it was my thoughts.

I am curious to see if they can manage to pull off a single battle pass. Changing the weapon set of Warzone over the Blackops would be frustrating for users who spent money on skins + battlepass today. Consequently integrating both MW and Black Ops loadouts might prove difficult as well.

Black Ops stories struggle their games are picked to sell a lot but I think their zombies does a better job than the actual game and multiplayer so if they can fix the confusion in the story their red flags will go away Gamers know Call of Duty is team death match and confusing your player base going forward will hurt Treyarch

Yes, it's going to be interesting to see how they handle the BP that is for certain. Personally I can see the weapons ofCold War going up against the MW weapons, real life stats wouldn't really come into the balancing and could be quite interesting to see.

My personal opinion is it could be a separate map that's used as the second map has been hinted at by leakers, so we could have our second map that's skinned for MW and maybe bother operators are selectable across the two maps

Whether you think this is greedy or not. It will sell like hot cakes. Luckily for me, I work pretty close with with Activision over the last few years and never paid a dime for anything. Can't wait to get my free next gen copy in advance! Hype hype.

Also no free upgrades

I'll wait to see how big the game download will be before buying. With rumors of the PS5 only has a paltry 650 GB of usable hard drive, space is too limited for a Call of Duty game. Modern Warfare currently clocks over 250 GB on my PS4 Pro, and the next-gen PS5 and XSX games are supposed to be even bigger with all of those higher quality textures and assets.

Cold War era. Nice. I love that middle ground of weapons tech. WWII gear can be too archaic, and modern/future gear is too sci-fi and cheesy.

Activision have been the greediest fucks for a long time, so no surprise here. They still want sixty bucks for older COD games, and even more for deluxe versions (ie the whole game) of stuff, like GHOSTS Deluxe Edition for a hundred. Even on sale, they price the games at three times the price of the contemporary Battlefield games. Just fuck off, Activision.

I imagine they'll present it as a feature. Some games support it, others don't
Yup. That's how the feature was promoted. MS even did a small list of approved Smart Delivery games. I forget how many, but it wasn't a huge list.

They never said Smart Delivery cross buys are for all 2000 full budget and indie games.

All that money they make and they still need to raise prices 💰💰💰💰💰
And then they will make more money which will not be as more as they expected, so they will have to lay off people
😑😑😑😑

No it's not even sure when the next gen version of the game will be released.
Hm. I wonder how long Sony and MS will wait. Like... we're a week away from September, surely they have to reveal all the info next month?! Honestly feels like these things will get pushed to March otherwise lol. Radio fuckin silence.
