Man, after those incredible grand finals, we really need to have more than one at least ASW game next year, if we don't have some kind of North American Arc Revo. P4A's showing last year wasn't bad, and I'd really love it if P4AU, Xrd and maybe even BBCP if it would be as amazing as what happened today.
If Bananaken vs LK ended up being GFs for P4A last year, it would've been perfect. If only, haha.
I think the worst thing is that most of the top Japanese that play BlazBlue don't play Persona 4 Arena, who don't play Guilty Gear Xrd, and vice versa.
So if it was just 1 game like Xrd, we probably won't be seeing the top players in the side tournaments.

Yeah. Out of the recent anime fighters, there are too many specialists for just one game.

For Xrd, I'd say the fanbase isn't nearly as big as BB right now. GG may have a legacy, but not everyone made the jump. While I do hope a lot of international players would come for Xrd (since I'm expecting it at Evo), ideally I want P4U2 to be in there as well to have more foreign players come.

Edit: And heh, no Narukamis in top 8 last year. No Kokonoes in top 8 this year.

Damn. My local gamestores dont have Chrono Phantasma. Just Continuum Shift Extend...I'm moving in like a week so I can't order it yet either. SHIT. My hype will not be sated for this today.

I think we do see more GG+BB players than there are for P4U+GG though.

I don't think P4U1 Narukami is anywhere near Kokonoe's notoriety lol.

Depending on where you live the game can be hard to find. I knew I had to buy it early or else it will disappear locally.

That might be because they both have longer legacies and they've had more opportunities to be shown at big tournaments, over time. The Evo side tourney for P4A had an alright showing for being a side tournament, so there's that.

But not for XRD last I heard. Some only dabbled in +R or never picked up XRD and just stuck with BB. Especially with the BB players here today at EVO.

Narukami might not compare in notoriety, but I think 1.1 Kokonoe isn't that far off from the other S tiers.

Not saying narukami was as strong as Kokonoe, but he definitely was a character to look out for.

What's responsible for that? Too many unpopular changes to the gameplay, lack of characters, or something else?
Some players don't have their characters in yet.

Also heard some Japanese players not liking it. Some find things like YRCs too dumb.

Xrd is surprisingly unpopular. I'm curious as to how that'll work out.

I've been hearing a bit of that, but I haven't been paying it too much mind because some people like Jiyuna were saying P4U2 was dead in arcades a few months back when it actually wasn't at all. If anything, it being a PS4 fighting game will probably make it relatively popular for home platforms (at least in the west)... I hope?

It was definitely the RC stuff that I was hearing people criticize in the past.

You can whiff anything and make it safe. Honestly, it's really dumb-sounding, and I bet it'll be worse in play :(

Meh people always talk about "insert w/e" game not being popular or not liking it, but it always has a community around it. Blazblue seems to have a smallish flimsy community around it, but looking at EVO would make me assume different.

Heck, remember when SF4 came out, bunch of "top names" said it was crap and look at it still going, even better look at whos still playing lol.

By the time it's released the PS4 drought will be somewhat clear. Plus ti will be up against games with juggernaut marketing.

On the way back. So yeah, obviously didn't last long. :p I went 1-2, at least! Beat a Terumi, lost to a Litchi and then a Tager. Was so worth going, seeing that GF in person... my god.

I got to judge a Quarter semi pool. :D So many beasts on deck.

If I have Continuuim Shift Extend from PS+, and just want to casually explore the game, is CP enough of an upgrade to justify a purchase on Vita?

CP is the best BB by far, imo. I can't say much story wise since I don't really follow it, but gameplay wise, it's the most balanced one.

Let me re-phrase my question- is the jump from Continuum Shift Extend to Chrono Phantasma a Street Fighter 2 to Street Fighter 3, or a SF Alpha 2 to SF Alpha 3?

Some mechanical changes but the gameplay is mostly unaffected. The big one is the change of burst. Burst aren't stocked by losses but is refilled over time (like in GG) and the gold (offensive burst) is replaced by overdrive, which freezes time and usually buffs your drives/damage.

It's closer to SF4 to SSF4 and MvC3 to UMvC3.

They took out guard primers!

Neither. But I guess it'd be closer to the Alpha example. SF2 to Super Turbo would be a good example.

The core is still there but the added moves and system mechanic changes shake things up.
Hah I forgot about those. Good thing too... Guard primers sucked!

At least they were better than Guard Libra!
Which isn't saying much

So...having never played a Blaze Blue title before, good idea to download this?

EDIT: I know the genre, and what it's about. I just mean in terms of mythology....

In terms of mythology... no.

BB has a surprising amount of random lore/story involved, nothing that can't be wiki'd I'd guess. You would be lost in story mode but thats about it. Still vote this being the best playing BB game though so I'd never go to an older one if you actually want to play. If you want a story, then start with the first.

That's because people got over the fact that it's not 3rd Strike, and never will.

Pretty much this for all games. Marvel 3 had it, Tekken had it, DoA5 had it, ect. ect. ect.

Another problem is this whole "anime community" mentality of only playing "one game." If marvel players are playing street fighter, kof, and tekken, why the hell is it an issue for these people to play gg, bb, and p4a? why do they have to choose a single game when no one is forcing them to. I can understand if you straight up don't like a game but for those who don't it seems odd to just lemming the hell out of your game playing options.

How did other GAFers (just Q and Shouta?) fare this weekend in Vegas? Talking CP, I went 2-2 myself. Could have done better, but I'm still new enough at the game that I didn't come up with an answer in time to Ragna dash-jump barriering as an approach. (Should have been more mobile and remembered airthrows exist.)

Was an incredible weekend for CP. I got front row seats to Galileo taking money from Dora in a FT10 at the 3AM anime suite to the hypest whispers I've ever heard, to theBrett's one-handed Stylish Kagura as it bodied the poor soul I first sent to losers, and to this hilarious off-stream half-screen run-up -> Tsubaki-install -> rest-of-screen run-up -> Overdrive -> yolo Dp ftw that Lvl5chan mind-fucked some player with at the end of pools. Spent most of the weekend otherwise with the Montreal/Ontario players and St1ckBuG, while throwing my voice out chanting "USA!", "GALILEOOOO!" and the ironic "LI-TCHI SUCKS!" from closer to the action than I could have ever dreamed. Can't wait to watch the archives.

CJ Iwakura and Master Milk went as well. I forgot how they did though.

BB certainly was hype to watch. Couldn't have asked for a better BB tourney at Evo for the main stage.

What are some of Ragna's bad matchups? I want to pick up a fourth after Bang, Bullet and Makoto and I'd like a counterpick in case I ever need one in the future. Dude is far and away my worst matchup.

I'm not much of a console fighter person. I prefer playing them on my Vita or PC. On Steam I have KOF13, SF4, MK9, Injustice, and Skull Girls. Been meaning to try out Guilty Gears and BlazBlue. Is the Steam version of Calamity Trigger worth checking out?

new version coming soon for arcades with 2 new characters.

lambda 11 will be similar to v13 with luna mode as base and also the drives will function differently.

serika
fights with minerva as part of her normals, so it will be similar to a P4U character, recommended for beginners.

Looks like arc system works wants BBCP to come back for another year in EVO.

This person knows WAY more than I do but from my time with both CP seems much faster and snappier. Those are weird words but it may just be all of these little changes added up to a game that seems faster but more accessible IMO. I am still just playing the computer, doing challenges and training mode but I am having an absolute blast with this version. I am sure if I go online (vita so... not sure how many people there are to play even!) I will get absolutely smacked but I think in this version I am more able to figure out some basic mid damage combos on my own. I have never been able to do that in any FG outside of SFXTekken (RIP.)

This game is so frigging good. Its really neat how different all of the characters are. It can be a bummer if you have one that you like how they look but hate their style but for the most part it just makes the game so varied. I have been maining Izayoi, but also enjoy playing Mu12, Noel, Platinum, and Rachel. Izayoi at a high level seems a little out of my reach but when I just play her like a character with really great normals, good fast supers and a decent zone (and a couple combos that may hit 3k if i am lucky and have meter) I do just fine and get to play the character I really think is cool.

All those other characters I am actually better at but its fun to grind at the odd one with no good video tutorials out, lol.
