Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

You don't know this. That isn't the final build.

Just keep telling yourself it will get better. It won't. I was as disappointed as any that DS2 fell short of their initial tease, but that didn't stop me from getting Platinum trophy and I doubt it will stop me here.

There is no reason to believe they will release a technically superior game than what we just saw. There is no reason they would have a more expansive teaser like this (more complete game world than previous alpha tests) that is earlier in development. This is the most up to date build and it is a technical mess.

You know this is the most up to date build? Source?

Stop. You have no idea what you are actually talking about right now. The build we are seeing right now may be a few weeks old and there is a more current build. Not too mention release is in a little under two months.

Or you could prove us all wrong with your insider knowledge of what build this is. Your uncle a janitor at From?

So just to get a feel for where we're at right now, is the consensus that this footage is from the Alpha?

If so, then most of our concerns are bunk, as it will be dealt with by launch.

We don't know if this is the same build as the alpha or not. What we do know it's an early build of the game.

After reading this thread, I had a feel that nowadays people prefer graphic > Gameplay and other stuffs? Smh

That is why other company (ahem Ubisoft) released AC: U with an impressive graphic associated with a ton of technical issue that spoiled player's experience.

As long as the gameplay is stable without any obvious bugs, and the art direction is good, I could deal with it.

Back to topic, the only concerns I have with Bloodborne is the healing items. Looks like you could heal in shorter time compared with DS2?

I've got this on pre-order but that looked pretty bad to me.
I've watched the alpha being played and it looked amazing, this looked awful though.
they changed the moody night setting to a sunset and to add even more insult it's got more jaggies than before.
what's going on? why so many changes for the worse, I've never played a souls game but do they really do this every time before release?
gameplay over graphics and all that but why lie about what the final release will look like so much.
fingers crossed it get's fixed for the release, I'd much prefer a night setting to the sunset as well, maybe the night time hides all the jaggies somehow?

Ya know I think that literally all that has changed here graphically between the alpha and now is a changed time of day + improved frame rate. Lighting is down to personal preference, performance is clearly better. What are these "changes for the worse"?

Seriously, the game has looked like this all along just with a ropier frame rate. Care to give any examples of what you are talking about?

It looks fine. Why have graphics suddenly become the focal point in how good a game will be? People should just stick to movies if they're going to complain about lacking visuals, because I question whether gaming is even for them anymore.

Levelling and the signature "retrieval" mechanic are notably avoided completely in the video.

They show the "soul retrieval" mechanic, which is you kill what killed you.

Damn they keep showing off the beginning in so many different lighting choices I don't know which one will be the actual lighting for each level

Hehehehe here's an overcast snowy day from the Gamescom trailer too!

Wow it looks so good. I got a chance to play it multiple times at PSX and this looks so much better. Pre ordered my future press guide and collectors edition of the game.

Won't watch the footage, but reading this thread.. Are they showing an old build?! The damn game comes out next month, why the hell would they show that?! Sony and the way they handle their media

I mispoke there. I also said there is no reason to believe it is not a current build. We don't know it's final, and can't know. It would be very odd for them to preview a very old, less impressive build. We saw the same thing happen with DS2.

I am not any less enthusiastic about the game, just disappointed.

the fact is that the footage is from a slightly older build as said by IGN, the people who played the game and posted the footage.

I'd hate to be like the people who rather complain about things at first chance rather than just enjoying things lol

I see all the "i don't get the hype for this" guys are back. Now we just need someone ask if it really is an exclusive title and we're back at the leak thread days.

Might as well just close the thread and go home then, so as to avoid any discussion whatsoever until the game is released and reviewed.

I'm talking about pissing on early code.

Can you think of a fairer way to critique this game than waiting a month? I'd like to read it.

Dark Souls 2 should have had an entire area dedicated to those badass mushrooms.

Glad I saw that message before I watched more than a few seconds.

Character creation is what I want to see.
Don't need any gameplay spoiled.

I think the most we can expect from now until release is *some* animations polish, graphical touch-ups, and general stability. Which is definitely enough considering how incredible the game mechanics are shaping up to be.

I wish they did something about the camera work when fighting larger enemies/bosses though...looks like it could get frustrating.

Once again aliasing is making people scream downgrade. People need to start being more discerning when looking at promotional material vs. uncut gameplay. We don't even know what the final build looks like, how about waiting before screaming.

The game still looks phenomenal from an art style perspective. I will say that is the most distracting aliasing I've seen in a long long while, it isn't helped by all the specular highlights on an overall dark environment.

Just speculation on my part, but maybe it's to compensate for the sped up combat?

I'm mostly concerned about how PvP will work, and how balanced the game will be. I liked DeS and DkS1 but not DkS2, so I'm hoping I'll find the combat con this closer to the first two games.

Yeah the camera during the boss fight was weird at a few points, the POV should pan back a bit when a huge enemy like that is engaged imo

Do we know this is early code? If so, why in the world is IGN putting up 18 minutes of it so as to showcase the game?

If I were FROM, I sure wouldn't be happy about IGN putting up footage that paints the game in such a negative light. Further, let's not forget FROM's fantastic track record of downgrades/terrible IQ (DkS2 downgrade), especially when dealing with hardware they are unfamiliar with (DkS1 on PC).

I mean, I'm still gonna keep both my CE and CE hardcover guide pre-order. And play hundreds of hours of it, because it's a Souls game at heart. And probably enjoy it. But the likelihood that it'll look much better than this, based on their track record is...well, it's not great.

Geez, some of the comments here. The game looks much better than previous gameplay videos, especially the frame rate.
As it says 3 seconds in (seriously, did you not watch it?) this footage is from an early build.

I'm sure they're still polishing out all the kinks.

There absolutely has not been a downgrade. The early builds had jaggies when viewed on a big screen and not down sampled for screen shots.

I said from the start that Sony wasnt going to be programming the game, it's entirely From-developed and so you should expect the same kind of graphics that From is known for.

Now THIS is the kind of thing people should be concerned about. From what we've seen it's pretty obvious this game will inherit some of the legacy issues from other Souls games including some dodgy camera work especially with bosses/big enemies.

This might actually be more of an issue with this game due to the faster pace.

Oh come the fuck on.

Oh dear, why did you prove me right Gaf? I was speculating with someone about why Sony threads always turn into battle grounds and told they guy I was talking to (in a The Order) thread that Bloodborne would be next. He swore it wouldn't happen because he'd only seen high praise for it. I simply said 'wait and see'. That was 4 days ago and here we are.
