Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

This game has possibly been downgraded if the IGN footage is the latest.

The texture above that door is different, but that doesn't mean it is worse. You can't tell from these terrible captures. Regardless I'm done. Game's quality will speak for itself.

I mean, if you can't see how flat, lifeless, and bland this looks for PS4 at 30fps, then I don't know what to say.

The only hope is that this is not final footage and truly there's a world of difference to be had in the final version.

People are allowed to dislike the level of graphical fidelity but admit they'll still play the game. I don't have to be 10/10 in agreement with every aspect of the game to be allowed to enjoy it. I am just not blind to what is clearly subpar graphics and performance for this generation, if this video is at all indicative of final quality. Let's hope it is not.

You don't think that looks like shitty video compression? That's what it looks like to me.

It's pretty ridiculous. Both inFamous and Driveclub where claimed to be downgraded...but upon release they looked as good if not better than what was shown before. I thought people would know better by now -_-

So you have to stagger enemies before you can backstab them now? I understand that for a frontstab, not so much for a back.
Yeah, there's no normal backstab anymore. A charged up attack staggers them to allow for it.

They replaced the old mural with a completely different one. In some ways the new one is more complex!

I think you're reaching here man. This level of change is pretty normal in games pre-release but in no way constitutes a "downgrade". Some assets get changed etc, but this is nothing like DS2 where the entire lighting system was basically removed and environmental complexity was clearly reduced. I don't see any reduction in detail anywhere here, just a different time of day with a bad capture quality.

If there is an actual downgrade when the game releases, I'll eat crow on this one.

Still, the textures hes talking about simply doesn't show on the ign video, its not matter of compression, they are not there.

Plus aliasing on the gate over there <-, compression blurry details, doesn't create aliasing unless I'm wrong?
Compression, different lighting, bad capture quality, etc. All those things can lead to things looking different. I've seen stuff on youtube that looks wore than its realtime footage.

Not sure about whether it affects aliasing or not though.
 
Man, the concern artists are out in full gear! I admit I got a mild chuckle, if not for just how bad they've gotten. This is just how things go in Sony articles.

In all seriousness, what I've seen today looks fantastic! Brings me back to my early Demon's Souls days!

The concern trolling has reached new heights, it's actually hilarious.

I only occasionally check out Bloodborne threads, but I've noticed the crap-posts come in two waves: "Has it been downgraded?!" (followed by a failure to produce meaningful evidence), then "Are we sure there's not gonna be a PC port?"
 
Looking at the comparison posted on the previous page, I doubt very much there has been a downgrade. Just video compression coupled with different lighting conditions, with a few random geometry and texture changes that would make little to no difference to resource demand, and is likely more to do with artistic choice.

That said, these kinds of games have never really been technical showcases, though it could certainly be regarded as an artistic showpiece.
 
This thread has gone full out ridiculous. It would be less so maybe if we weren't comparing compressed youtube footage with screenshots of a completely DIFFERENT TIME OF DAY.

Even then, I can't see the downgrade.

So here's something I've been wondering:

The headstone of awakening in the dream refuge allows us to "awaken above ground" in Yharnam. There are two similar-looking headstones to the left of it.

Is the dream refuge below ground? Or is Yharnam above ground when compared to the areas that the other two headstones lead to? Presumably one of them will allow us to "awaken underground" - but what about the third one?
 
So youre telling me people are yelling downgrade over a texture that was just replaced for a different one? Im out of this thread. Ridiculous.

There's a whole load of hyperbole but that's pretty much a given in any thread lately.

But yeah, even swapped geometry like that doesn't point to a downgrade, just an artistic change. For me I just want the game to be a solid 30, couldn't care less how it looks otherwise.
 
I'm sure IGN will release many direct feed screenshots of the build the month is out.

People should bitch about graphics then and just focus on bitching about game mechanics now.

This is the level of compression people are comparing direct-feed with. Whoever does it shows themselves to be complete fucking trolls. Youtube compresses the holy fuck out of videos. Along with whatever compression IGN uses in the original capture to lower the size of the video. So you are likely getting double compression on the shots.

And yeh that shot is a direct capture of the 1080p video.

It's even worse when they think they're clever about it. Using a video compressed screen-CAP versus an, obvious, higher res screenshot? Just awful. On the flip-side, I thought what we saw today looked great! The new outfit gives it a slightly more, "badass", feel.
 
This thread is interesting. Anyways, I think anyone would be foolish to say that this game is some kind of technical masterpiece in terms of visuals...I mean you just have to look at it, even if it was downgraded it never looked OMG AMAZING in the first place.

That is totally fine though. Souls games have always looked a bit meh, they more than make up for it with the excellent gameplay, and this looks to be more of that.

Even on NeoGAF... I still can't believe how wildly absurd these threads so often end up. It has to be parody. It's the only way I can comprehend this total insanity.

Can't wait. Game looks great. Hope it turns out as good as it looks to be.

I agree with the lightining being different, does the game have dynamic daytime? Well I just love dark colors thats why it doesn't look that good to me.

Well the dream refuge looks like its surrounded by the arch? trees from dark souls, which were holding up the world in that game too. For what that's worth.
 
This thread is basically 29 pages of talking about AA and textures. While that stuff is important, I feel like the interesting lore we've gotten from the opening and some of the NPC dialogue is much more worthy of discussion. That and opinions on gameplay mechanics.
 
Some of these concern trolls must surely know how to read, right? I mean, it's explicitly said, with its own frame, that is is an old build. In what mind does that equate to, "this will be how we'll ship the game"?
 
From has never been known for their graphics. It still looks a generation a head of the souls series though which is good.

People would really save themselves a lot of time if they simply waited for the final product to make some of the proclamations I'm seeing in this thread (based off of compressed footage from an early build, no less). I was hoping I'd get to read more about the actual game without spoiling things for myself watching the proper video, but if there has been discussion of that sort, it's certainly buried between the inane bickering.

with this close to release i'd say this is actually beta and this is close to what we're getting for final release, i'm still probably going to get it either way, excited for my 1st souls experience :3

I noticed that too. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

This thread started with excitement and then the concern trolls showed up and everyone has to resort to refuting their asinine claims. Ive only seen a few people actually discuss the dialogue given items, something a love that the souls community engages in.(Shoutouts to Xtortionist and Imur)
 
All these passive aggressive people with Sony avatars being concerned about concerned people. I'll continue to speak my mind about what I'm being shown, early footage or not (too early to criticise, but never too early to get hyped?).

Because is clear that this game right here is in a worst stage than Demon Souls /s
