Bomb of the Year

I would also add this, but it would mostly be for reaction. Don't consider it a shitty game, but I couldn't motivate myself to play even halfway through it.
Enclave is better

:lol WTF are you talking about? Absolutely no one expected that game to do much of anything sales wise, and even those who were glad it came out (like me) wondered why they were bothering. And it had about as much advertising as Ford Racing 2 (hell even less, not sure it even had a magazine ad).Not to mention that the poster clearly means this thread to be about personal disappointments. What a stupid post.

Of course if you wanna look at a game failing to meet sales expectations, I'd give it to Madden 2005. :lol It's obviously sold well, but ESPN NFL 2K5 clearly had a bigger impact on it's sales then EA thought was possible.
It's the long-awaited sequel to friggin' Outrun, and it couldn't even muster up five-digit sales in its first month. I'd call that a bomb, and I was rooting for the game to do well.

Btw, couldn't help but notice you are letting the Sega fan in you out a bit too much in this thread. Trying to spin OutRun2 as a qualified success in one breath, and then offering a case for Madden 2005 as a bomb instead?

I would've said Fable, but I actually wasn't hyped for that game, I just bought it out of interest after it was out. I like it a lot, though all these other games are grabbing my attention at the moment. I don't play many RPGs, and I still don't think Peter Molyneux lived up to his infamous quote. :D

I was very disappointed with Neo Contra which was basically a parody (animal contra :O), but that's not to say previous games haven't been either to some degree. As a Contra veteran I can look past that but the challenge was non-existant, I managed to S-Rank this in just three hours.

Personally I hope Konami will give the license to Treasure at some point.

I personally loved Fable, but then, I had completely given up on it after hearing some early impressions, only grabbed it because I couldn't find Shin Megami Tensi Noctourne during the TRU deal. Its definately not what was promised, but its an all around good game, though it gets much too easy unless you really up your challenges, and then at the tail end of it you don't even have that to make it harder on yourself.

Had a good story, great graphics, and solid, fun gameplay overall though I'd say.

My choice would be Deus Ex 2 but it missed this year by less than a month. You're lucky Spector, I blame you for handing the series off to incompetance.

Outside of that it'd have to be GTA:SA. I'm just very sick of the incesant fed ex quests disguised with random violence. There needs to be a more intelligent way to make these games. The only thing that keeps me coming back is the tounge in cheak humor found on the radio stations and in the main storyline.

If you buy Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, you'll hate yourself.

It's seriously one of the worst sequels ever made, and I can't wait for all the disappointment posts.

Unless you like listening to Godsmack while slashing generic goth outfitted enemies that scream like cats and then sitting through load screens that have blood dripping down the screen. You'll also like it if you hate puzzle solving, because you won't have time for that shit while you're rocking out to bland butt rock and being goth while hacking through waves of enemies. It's really all very Persian.

Killzone. Even ignoring the hype, you can clearly see what the developers were trying to achieve, the disappointment comes from seeing how spectacularly they failed to do so.

Either Killzone or Fable would do nicely, but I'd go for the former, because at least the latter has a reasonable # of defenders.

Every single good game of the year has been listed aside from DQVIII and HL2. What are we waiting for? :D

Doom 3

I wasn't expecting much (going by the early impressions), but was still disappointed. I just found it to be dull, so I never finished it.

Agreed, while Fable wasnt what it was hyped to be, the game is still damn good. 8/10 from Edge

No where near a piece of shit like Sudeki. Id easily reccomend this game to new Xbox owners (already got 2 friends who love it)

Hope it tops a million by the end of this year. I cant wait to see Fable 2 running on Xbox 2 hardware

This is a good show Lara! You got the two Nintendo fanboys to post about what you wrote but no one else! :lol

I forget when Deus Ex 2 was released. I have it somewhere. I just remember how damn stripped the game was from its original.

I vote for any BIG game on any other system other than the one I own. As have many posters on here no doubts.

Champions of Norrath - Online was so bad I wanted to break the game.
Custom Robo - I was looking forward to the American debut. It stinks.
Metal Gear Solid:TS - What a horrid showing. A re-make deserved better.
Killzone - A failed experiment and a dissapointment for me as a player.
Doom 3 - I wish it wasn't a Doom game. Killed my nostalgia for the series.
MVP Baseball - Bugs killed me. Don't want to play it on PC!

Lot of other games and canidates that I didn't play or didn't seem to have the same expectations for as others.

Screw you, this was a decent game on N64 import. With better maps and design this would be a fun robot fighting game, haha. Would you rather I jumped on the Fable bandwagon?

Purple Haze I blame on a particularly dry time for shooters before Halo 2. And ToS is dissapointing, but not a bomb of the year for me.

Bastard.

Sudeki was THAT bad? Now, I've seen the low prices even a month after it was released, but wonder why there was no news from MS about it since it was announced....

Worst game of the year? I'd say Fable, but Unlimited Saga tempts me more...

it's funny how like three people are confused by the thread title, yet everyone else decided to read and comprehend the original post's text.

Haha, I remember hating on Fable, and guess who came out ahead!
I actually got Fable, played it, god what a mediocre game.
Halo 2, I'm actually enjoying, the multiplayer at least, single player is just a waste of time in my mind, and that's a surprise to me.
But biggest disappointment? Other than bastardizing of the battle system in FFXII, an actual game I was thinking of being a disappointment would have to be...probably Ninja Gaiden for fucking a series over once again with the next-gen translation.

"Wow, is Fable really that bad?!!"

Not really. It's just on a console some folks don't like, and people had an expectation I suppose that the game was going to give them head or something as they played. Unrealistic expectations built up for a video game. Peter did hype features that didn't make the final cut, but it's a good game. Not a best RPG ever kind of game, but one of the better RPGs at least of this year. Kind of a weak year for RPGs though.

Wario Ware GC

It's a pretty good game still, but I was expecting a lot more, it's pretty much just the GBA one with a few new multiplayer modes, it's rather lame, it feels a bit weird playing the minigames on a tv too. Wario Ware GBA > Wario Ware GC. I'm really happy with every other game i've got this year, haven't been really disappointed in a game in a long time.

IAWTP

I tried several times to get friends, causal and hardcore gamers, to play, but it's not a multiplayer where everyone can plug in and play. It really helps if all players are slightly familiar with the minigames first, and even so, the actual multiplayer games are either too dull or too complex. And there was no Dr. Wario!

I'm about to play Phantom Brave. What's so disappointing about it?

I wasn't disappointed by it, but I can see why others would be. It doesn't have the sharp sense of humor that Disgaea did--the plotline is much more sentimental and melodramatic, complete with a cheeful but sickly girl that reminds me of Little Nell from Dickens's The Old Curiosity Shop.

Also, the game's mechanic is very easy to break, even without using any powerlevelling exploits.

LakeEarth asks: " Someone will say Halo 2. Not me though"

It's Halo 2! :D

There i said it. Beep Beep Gooooonnnnneeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! :lol :lol

PS2 had a great year for RPGS, as did the Cube to a lesser extent. As always, though, it's been a poor RPG year for the Xbox. Fable is certainly not one of the "better RPGs" of this year. It's an empty, unfulfilling and repetitive adventure game. I don't even consider it an RPG.

Champions of Norrath, see also similar sentiments about SOE effing up the on-line play. Squeezing a two disk game onto a single dual layer DVD in the 11th hour was also a bad decision which lead to lots of annoying problems. >:|

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, if it was released this year. I hate, hate, HATE fixed camera angles! The character creation system was also not as robust as I was hoping for. I was wanting something along the lines of the PSO character editor.

Selkies still rock, but I'll be damned if I do more than look at CC hentai dojin from now own. :P

But you consider Killzone to be the best console FPS this gen/year? :lol

Fable is certainly the good RPG going by reviews, you just have a lot of molenuex haters on this board.

KOTOR 2 to be released soon, another great RPG on Xbox (if not one the best this gen)

A console prefference has nothing to do with the overall quality of a game. Fable had good stuff, yes, it had good stuff. But the game wasn't as polished as it should've been, wasn't as balanced as it should've been, and it just didn't flow as good as other RPGs do.
And yes, expectations are important with a game like this. I mean, this is a game that was supposed to be the BEST RPG ever, and it just didn't cut it.

Is it still a good game? Sure. But should you buy it if you're seriously craving for an RPG? Nah, there are better out there in the other two consoles. (I'm talking about 2004 releases, of course)

I liked Fable, probobly because it came exacly as i expected it would, and Killzone was good too.

The Doom 3 on the other hand, after the first few hours turned out inredibly boring,i didnt even bother to finish it.

Also been playing HL2,on the Buggy mission now,and while its a very good game,it doesnt feel like a GOTY,at least not yet.

Best games of the year are MGS3,Halo 2,Vampire Bloodlines and Riddick sofar.

By "bomb" you mean an actual BAD game -

Ninja Gaiden, Fable, Halo2, and the DS?!?!?! - you guys are nuts. :P

NG was the best action game made this year - unless you suck balls at it.

Fable was average - maybe with some more polish it could have been great, but I would not say bomb.

Halo 2... jesus, to you guys even LIKE games?

DS - it just came out, can't say it was a bomb yet. Fell the Magic baby! Feel it!

I'd go with Sudeki -
