Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

The colors are nice and black levels are actually proper. None of that washed out mess from the games tester video. I dont expect Gearbox will fix HDR in the first patch or two, so SDR it is.

Sigh

How in the hell do so many games have raised blacks? Is it that great of a technical challenge to have black = (0,0,0)? Am I just adjusting the HDR settings wrong? Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield, and Doom: TDA are a few recent ones where I had to use a mod or use auto-HDR instead of the in-game HDR setting.

Same here. The game runs well with no stutters
Same. played for 3 hours now. Ultrawide 3440x1440, Badass preset, DLSS on Quality and no frame gen, I get 80-100 fps. With frame gen, I get around 140. So far no stutters or performance drops. 4090 and 7800x3D here. Personally, I'm happy getting minimum of 60 FPS in my games but calling 60 FPS a great thing these days is subjective. So, your mileage may vary.
What's most surprising to me is how much fun I'm having with this and I appreciate the darker story as well.

7680x2160, 9800x3d, 5090, DLSS Performance, Frame Gen 2x I get around 100fps. Twice the game has frozen and I have to go to the task manager and kill it. The first time was trying to shoot the first enemy the second when I tried to melee an enemy. The screen just freezes but I have sound, when I go to task manager the CPU shows 2% usage so not sure what is happening.

Looks like my freezing was due to me undervolting the 5090, once I removed that, no freezing. The card is pulling 450watts average now though.

Played for about 2 hours. I've spent a lot of time in the graphics.
I have an RTX 4070 i7-13700F
1080P
DLSS Quality
No Frame gen
Baddass graphics settings including turning up all the lighting and reflection effects
Limit to 60FPS with vertical sync on.
Seems to run and look good with these settings.

I tried 4K but Badass settings and DLSS ultra performance was still a bit iffy. High played well.
Also tried 4k with Framegen, it looked good no shimmering, but the lag in this mainly action game was too much for me.

The Manglers seem to forget I'm there for a bit. They attack then kind of give up and wander away for a bit then notice me and attack again. Weird AI, usually in Borderland games Skaggs are up in my face the entire time. It's a nice change.

I picked Rafa, and the shoulder guns.
the guns I've found so far have tiny ammo clips. 4 shots and I'm out. reload, reload, reload.
So far so good. I'm level 4 already!

What fps does this run at on base ps5? I want to share play with my bro on console but idk if I can go back to 30 😭
I'm playing on performance mode, its not 30fps, feels like 60fps most times. Not too far into the game, maybe about an hour or so. Some weird stuttering and slowdown during cutscenes though.

Just completed the Hacky Sack wanted poster mission. I was confused at what to do until I realized it says 'throw' right there. :)
The game did not label the item it just said 'grab'.

Is splitscreen confirmed to be 30fps even on the Pro? or does nobody know yet? Framerate goes to hell in that video above during bigger fights... yikes.

4070, 5800x3D and 32gb ram.
Im getting 70-90fps in open areas, stutters gone since patch dropped. Playing at high with quality dlss and framegen.

Good game so far on pro. The gunplay and mobility is very satisfying. Dialogue not annoying so far except clap. Cool lead villain.

Main issues:
-Some noticeable drops in performance mode
-Switches to 30fps for cut scenes
-Some extremely low textures to be found all over the place creating inconsistency that is quite noticeable
-Fighting an enemy from afar is pointless because they turn into a blur. The upscaling is done well in close and medium ranges but far you are shit outta luck

I picked Amon and went shield build since I'm playing hard mode solo. I figured he will have the easiest time for survival.

How's the ninja like character Rafa or whatever?

30fps cutscenes are also a thing on pc. But funny thing is game is not Pro enchanced, which is wild.

Why the hell would you do undervolting on a 5090? That's absolutely pointless
if you undervolt by 10% you have 95% of the performance with 75% of the power draw and much better thermals. It's actually cards like the 5090 the ones which is smart to undervolt since you're not usually maxing it anyways.

But the problem is that when your do undervolting or overclocking, most of the time you will get crashes because most developers always optimize their games for default graphics cards settings. I've been many years now on pc gaming and I always see this situation where people get constant crashes and then you find out they had overclock their pc and forgot about that

I seriously do not recommend it at all

I've only played a little bit so far, I picked Harlowe as my first character and oh boy.. her dialouge is not good. The dialogue nor the voice actors line delivery, my friend picked Rafa and I did not have any issues with him so far.

Well I wouldn't recommend doing it via bios but i do it via MSI afterburner and haven't had any issues for now. And the good part is, if you get issues, it's two clicks to change it back

Question for people already playing it.

What is the ratio of those humanoid golden robots comoared to the classic humanoids with the biohazard mask?

Like 50-50 or more like 70-30.

(I ask because they don't look nearly as fun to kill compared to the normal humans).

And why the fuck is cdkeys not accepting my paypal anymore? :messenger_pensive:

I tweaked some of my settings. Lowered some stuff from very high to high and now im constantly over 120 with 2x FG so feels good and didnt noticed any downgrade in visual quality

Is this game truly poorly optimized, or is it just the more common case of 'a modern game requires a modern PC, so people cry about it'?

They're only in the prologue. Once you land in the open world, it's standard rippers and mobs.

I presume they come back later in the game.

Game is really, really good.

Guns feel excellent. The Vladof assault rifle is chef's kiss. I like the updated movement mechanics. The glide is well implemented, but the hook shot is likely more gimmicky. Characters are a little slower, but I suspect skill points will improve that.

It's simply open world Borderlands, which is exactly what I want.

Now, the downside is performance. On PS5 performance mode has that washed out, soupy look to it. And the frame rate does drop in boss battles. I'm guessing into the 40s.

It is what it is. There's a lot to like here. There's also stuff you can criticise. If you like Borderlands, I think you'll love it. Feels much closer to the first.

We criticise AAA developers, but a lot of love and care has gone into this.

They appear either in spawned search parties via dropship, randomly out in the world fighting humans or wildlife and sometimes occupy a point of interest. There seems to be a nice variety Wildlife, Rippers and Timekeeper factions. Plus infighting between the different factions when near each other.

Guess there's no way my old Ryzen 5 5600X and RX 6700 XT can even run it, huh...
I'll probably have upgraded by the time the game price drops enough for me to even consider buying it anyway (and they remove Denuvo).

I preordered on the PS5 Pro yesterday, it downloaded about 28 gigs. How much more does it have to download when I get home to start?
The game can't be that small.

I took a trip to NZ yesterday and had a good time playing B4. Didn't encounter any bugs or crashes. Just a bit of stuttering at the beginning of cutscenes....but I've seen that in a lot of other games too.

But, it plays well and the environments are a lot nicer and varied.

Claptrap is still annoying AF though!

EDIT: I'm back from NZ now.....whew!! I'm tired.

I just got it on Series X because it runs like doo-doo on my PC. Can't wait to play with a field of view as narrow as a toilet paper roll... :messenger_smiling_hearts:
