Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

I hate this series. I hate Randy Pitchford. I hate Epic. I hate Tim Sweeney. Hate hate hate!

Damn OT already. Im swimming in games. Seriously this year is probably the best year in gaming. I literally play banger after banger since months. Every week, there is a new game out. I just finished mgs delta, currently playing cronos and this will be my next, then silent hill and BF6

Still undecided on my character. Tbh none of them looks interesting to me :D

I really enjoyed the first game on xbox 360 years ago when I played it with friends, never really liked any of the other ones after that, and I finished them all. Going in on this one solo and hope it rejuvenates the fun/discovery while also not having an awful story and annoying as shit characters. Here's hoping!

How many more of the characters are alphabet soup?
I don't have my hopes up for this one. The series has gotten worse with each version. I might get it when its really really cheap.
This will be the deciding factor for me. If the game has slid further into modern audience pandering and wokeness, it will be a hard pass. If not, I'll probably pick it up on sale at some point, unless it's not woke and the reviews are phenomenal, then I'll buy it on release.

Just preordered it and ready to see it melt my RTX 3090.
I'm planning on 4K max settings but I'm ok with 30 fps and DLSS so we'll see how it goes.
I hope there will be a preload available because I'm sure this game is massive.

Had it preordered, but the radio silence on console performance convinced me to refund. So just sitting waiting for reviews to drop and probably for the game to drop also. Doubtful its on UE5.5 so doubtful it performs well, even on a Pro. (for which we only have a french unconfirmed PS store screenshot to suggest its Pro optimised anyway)

We shall see. Needs to be flat 60 regardless of whats going on.

Was going to see about getting this, but , then I remembered who, Randy Pitchford is, and I instead choose to direct my duckets towards Chronos.

Yo! To be fair… BL stopped appealing to me after 3. Not feeling the series or the studio any longer.

PC is a no go for me on this one without split screen, and it seems like the game can't hold 60 fps even in single player on PS5 so that might not be an option either.

My wife and I liked 1, 2, and pre-sequel so I hope it turns out ok, but I'm doubtful right now.

I couldn't get into the first one.

Borderlands 2 was wacky and funny, loved the cocky antagonist. The gunplay was good, snipers and a mix of SMGs pretty much carried it for me. I beat the game on normal with Zero and Salvatore. I haven't completed any DLC so replaying this again with all content and will finish the game this time on NG+ and NG++ ( TVH mode ).

Pre-sequel, eh, I have it in my library but somehow didn't care. The only reason I have this is because I bought the Pandora's box and this was included.

Borderlands 3. One of the best FPS games in the industry. The guns, movement and levels are amazing. Punchy and fun. Slick movement. The story and dialogue is however very cringey. DLC however are very good. I enjoyed playing this a lot.

Tiny Tina's Wonderland. Sometimes really funny and sometimes totally cringey. Gunplay more or less Borderlands 3 but imo feels even smoother and guns designs are fun. I liked the game. Very fun for one or two playthroughs. Best, OP class locked behind DLC is so Gearbox/2K.

B4: I'm looking forward to it but I'm not going to get it Day 1 because of the additional DLCs and content. Gearbox releases so many of them, seasons passes, etc it's impossible to select what edition you want. I'll wait till all content is out and is in a bundle at 75% off.

My weak ass bought the gold edition. I had plenty of good times playing this with my son so that's about it. I do think the no console footage and clarity about performance is shady but we will see...

Yeah would have been great if they put out a world or graphics video and gave the details on what branch of UE5 it's running.

They partnered with Nvidia and from the reports it's stutter city there, I don't believe in miraculous day 1 patch anymore.

No way they'll get me again after 3 and the DnD spin off.

Like others said I'll wait for a discount. Should be $40 or less by Black Friday.

One of the playtesters in his video mentioned he was getting about 30-40FPS on medium settings 1440P with his 4080 GPU, and about 60-70 with framegen. That is an atrocious performance for a game that looks pretty much the same as BL3

Agree with performance but this game is Open World, the other games had loading screens for all zones :P

"Aw hell noo!"

I'll pick it up in a year or so when it HOPEFULLY has received some much needed optimisation. Miss me with these poorly optimised games, man.

I got the PS5 physical version for 40 bucks because of the amazon deal so I think I will keep my preorder, if its shit I can still sell it

wtf is happening to game engines ? 30-40 without frame gen on a 4080 at medium settings is a disgrace, is 1440p even native ?

I'm out if thats the case. Imagine consoles? Lol wtf are these games doing thats eating so much resources?

Frame gen isn't worth a wank if your base frames are 30-40fps.
and that why MHwilds on PC is one of the most unoptimized port ever, framegen is almost mandatory for 90% of PCs. if you want the game to "feel" smooth. Borderlands 4 ll have a rough time on PC, steam reviews ll be mostly negative no doubt.

Ai upscaling methods + framegen = lazy optimization

if you can run at lower res and use AI to generate frames for you, you may jump that optimization part of your game that take a lot of time and money.

We need better optimization for sure but to think that ai is just a tool for the end-user is incredibly shortsighted.

I usually use DLSS FGx2 when my average framerate is around 60–70 fps to reach 110–120 fps, but I also tested the 30 fps baseline and found that 60 fps was still fairly playable. The artefacts were more noticeable than at 60 fps baseline, but even so, FG offered a much better experience than 30 fps.

That being said, achieving 30-40 fps at 1440p native with medium settings on an RTX 4080 doesn't make any sense and especially if you look at the recommended settings. That's the level of performance seen in PT in Cyberpunk or Black Myth: Wukong, the most demanding games around at the moment. I don't believe Gearbox would create such an extremely demanding game for the masses that would require 5090 to run 60fps with medium settings at 1440p. I think it's more likely that the YouTuber set something incorrectly.

30 to 60 is rough not just on the eyes but feels really bad as well.

In my experience base 50fps and above works best.

People have played games at 30 fps for decades. The latest DLSS FG technology adds only about 2ms if implemented well. You won't notice an additional 2 ms, but there's a huge improvement in smoothness and motion clarity between 30fps and generated 60fps. When I tried playing Cyberpunk at 30 fps with FG (60 fps generated), it was much easier for my eyes to track movement. I believe DLSS FG might actually doing something to improve input response, because my accuracy and aiming felt more comparable to 60 fps than to 30 fps and that wasnt the case when I used FSR FG.

Although DLSS FG works extremely well, this shouldn't excuse developers from planning to use this technology to achieve 60 fps, even at 1440p. I really don't believe Gearbox would make a game for the masses with such ridiculous requirements (especially when released recommended requirements arnt that high). If 4080 is only able to hit 30-40fps, then thr 5090 would be required to hit 60fps at 1440p with medium settings. That YouTuber is probably wrong. I advise waiting for a real test because repeating nonsense adds nothing to the discussion.

If that is true, then performance is a complete disaster.
And then there are reports of stutters....

there is only one problem with DLSS + FG, and thats Nvidia greed, they ll lock newer version out of old cards to force your hand into upgrade, there is lot of ppl with 3060 that ll get fucked cause of this and a lot of 4060 users ll be too.

and sadly AMD open source tech still shit, so this "latest DLSS FG" wont help a lot of ppl.
