Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

Try playing F1 2025 or Doom DA at 30 base fps and tell me your having a good experience.
Try telling console gamers that 45 ms of latency is unacceptable when they seem to enjoy playing games with up to 131 ms.

You trippin if you think 60fps FG is anything but absolute dog shit. I'd rather play at 30 fps with stutters than deal with that input lag
No human can notice a difference of 2 ms. In fact, people can barely notice a difference of 20 ms. People can however notice blur on sample and hold displays and the lack of motion smoothness.

I wouldn't recommend using FG at a baseline below 60 fps because artefacts are easier to notice. However, I tested such a scenario and found that DLSS FG offered a much better experience than 30 fps. Small artefacts are nowhere near as noticeable as constant judder and 2x stronger blur.

Mark my words! Sony will build the PS6 with hardware-based frame generation, like Nvidia did, and people will enjoy playing games with just 60 fps generated frames.

Bro I don't need your bullshit numbers to know framegen on feels shittier than framegen off. I have experience for that.

I don't know what to say. If you happy playing an first person shooter at sub 30fps then go for it. Not amount of generated frames will change how it feels to play.

I couldn't get into the first one.

Borderlands 2 was wacky and funny, loved the cocky antagonist. The gunplay was good, snipers and a mix of SMGs pretty much carried it for me. I beat the game on normal with Zero and Salvatore. I haven't completed any DLC so replaying this again with all content and will finish the game this time on NG+ and NG++ ( TVH mode ).

Pre-sequel, eh, I have it in my library but somehow didn't care. The only reason I have this is because I bought the Pandora's box and this was included.

Borderlands 3. One of the best FPS games in the industry. The guns, movement and levels are amazing. Punchy and fun. Slick movement. The story and dialogue is however very cringey. DLC however are very good. I enjoyed playing this a lot.

Tiny Tina's Wonderland. Sometimes really funny and sometimes totally cringey. Gunplay more or less Borderlands 3 but imo feels even smoother and guns designs are fun. I liked the game. Very fun for one or two playthroughs. Best, OP class locked behind DLC is so Gearbox/2K.

B4: I'm looking forward to it but I'm not going to get it Day 1 because of the additional DLCs and content. Gearbox releases so many of them, seasons passes, etc it's impossible to select what edition you want. I'll wait till all content is out and is in a bundle at 75% off.
I feel you. I'm friends with one of the concept artists behind Borderlands 3 and he got me a few copies. Had a ton of fun with it, but the story was very, very meh. Tiny Tina was great too, I didn't take it too serious and blasted through it with a coop buddy. Was fun.

I'm not a fan of Gearbox their pricing strategy. I'm in the same boat as you, probably gonna wait.

Dying Light The Beast is out soon and it looks like an even better coop game for me and my buddy.

There are many factors that could explain your negative experience. I can only talk about my own experience with my PC and fast QD-OLED monitor (only 2.7 ms lag). I wasn't able to notice the additional 2 ms difference in Cyberpunk, and my impressions align with the latency measurements I linked. I can easily tell a difference between FSR FG on and off, but DLSS lag is in placebo territory for me. If you arnt happy with DLSS FG latency on your own PC, simply dont use it.

Can believe the guy is saying with a straight face that playing an FPS with sub 30fps base frame rate feels great and might actually improve latency.
I didnt said that. Sub 30fps means input frame rate of 1-29fps, whereas I tested 30fps base to generate 60fps with DLSS FGx2. I dont recommend playing like that becasue of increased motion artefacts, but overal experiene is much better than base 30fps for sure and that's all what I'm saying.

I was mainly discussing perceived smoothness and motion clarity. These factors improve the gaming experience and affect aiming. But sometimes FG can also improve latency in certain games (i.e. games that don't allow you to use Reflex separately). For example black myth wukong doesnt allow to use reflex without FG, so latency is 12-20ms lower with DLSS FG.

Last time I checked enabling frame gen costs performance. If you have a base of 30 enabling FG will cost you a couple of frames.

Things may look smoother but it won't feel any different, in most cases it will also feel worse as well.

BD3 was smooth as butter for me. Tiny Tina ran like shit and looked far worse. I expect BD4 to hand in a very middling performance and visual quality

I would never use the word "grounded" to describe any of the Borderlands games. Even the first game opens with a goofy bus driver and then Claptrap.

Even Randy says BL4 is "throwing back to the more grounded tone" of the earlier games. So I guess there was something different about the style of writing in the later games and it's not just the bitter critters being a bunch of haters.

DLSS FG isn't free, but you can only see that FG cost if GPU is used to the max.

Here's framerate (83fps) on my GPU in the same location without FG and frame limiter. When I locked the frame rate to 60 fps (with RTSS 'reflex" in order to reduce FG lag) and then enabled FGx2, my GPU was asked to only render real 30fps and had plenty of power left to fully double that 30fps. The game wasnt running at sub 30fps as you thought.

Even if I bought it Day 1, I won't be able to run this well. The requirements are quite insane! Recommended requirements: RTX 3080 and 32GB RAM! That destructoid article played the game on a RTX3070, low preset 1080P and got stutters and frame dips.

I'm shelving this game until I upgrade.

The destructoid author updated the article to mention that he had power supply issues that cause most of his problems with the game.

Hmm, I'll wait for reviews!

Been playing Borderland games for hundreds of hours, but it's going to take some extraordinary reviews and feedback for this one. Just too burned out on the series :(

I had not realized this is UE5. I wonder what a performance mode will look and play like on the base consoles.

My brother wants to day one the game and i said hell no, let's wait for impressions on how things run and look and if the writing is indeed much better now.

Ugh i really dont like the characters, good thing is i wont see them because it's fps. One thing i will ask, can we skip the story? Unskipable cutscene is not my kind anymore

Yeah, except for Amon everyone screams soo much, and Rafa, my God, can we please stop with this "Latino accent" on Latin characters, ffs? Is this guy in an intergalactic world or did he just cross the border from Mexico to the US?

ugh... i guess, i will return to BL1 and 2, rather than this...
I once played BL with halo visor mod, i got small degree of fun more : ))

Reminds me a little bit of the infamous Doom 2016 video.

i know it's not meant to be taken seriously

but why is that footage sub 30 fps

they're most likely playing on series x right? is it the capture card that's restricting it to 30 or what?

edit: oh wait they're on PC lol what the fuck is going on

Im curious, but I want to see how the performance is first. Borderlands 3 ran (and still runs) quite bad.
I just started playing Borderlands 3 and although I initially experienced stuttering, I managed to resolve the issue by disabling CFG protection. So far, the game has been running at well over 240 fps (1440p native, high settings) and that's not bad. Why do you think the game runs badly? Will later levels run much worse?

looks like there's a decent amount of content locked behind the $100 edition? four areas, missions, bosses? No way to access without the $100??

This is just an included season pass with the dlc coming later down the line. Companies have been doing this for years now. I hate it too unless it's actually developed after the release. And not taken away to be sold later.
