Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

We'll likely hear that it's just more Borderlands, but with new traversal options. Honestly, that's what I'm expecting anyway. Hopefully with the addition of interesting characters, story and humor. I have to say that those CG character trailers were quite cool, so there's that.

Not sure if we can trust most reviewers about characters, story and humor though. We still live in a world where folks are just too easily offended, that and humor is subjective.

I thought everyone was up in arms around here because of the whole Pitchford comments about "real fans" finding a way or whatever? Apparently the outrage is out the window?

Oof at that performance. So based on this, i will get 45-50 fps without framegen on my 5070ti. Thats... awful. Maybe i can get away with 3X framegen. We'll see how well its implemented. I played the new DOOM with 3x and it looked and ran great

Yeah this is bad. If I pick this up I'm going to have to play at 4k DLSS Performance (no FG) on my 5080 to hopefully get 80ish FPS. Luckily 4k Performance mode usually looks alright if there isn't crazy foliage.

Just upgraded my Geforce Now from 6 months to one year because they're including this. Was going to wait, but may as well! Love a bit of Borderlands, hoping it's not a disappointment.

I wonder how much better it'll do with RT/Lumen disabled (assuming you even can)

The RTX 5090's performance (256 fps) looks impressive at first glance, but only if you don't pay attention to the details. DLSS performance means the game is rendering at 1080p internally, and performance without FGx4 would be at 64fps at best, and probably was around 50-55fps because FGx4 is not free. Something tells me Borderlands 4 will be the most demading UE5 game on the market. Not even Black Myth Wukong with PT require to use DLSS performance on the RTX5090 to get over 60fps. These results doesnt bode well for my RTX4080S, because it seems Gearbox expect people to use MFG to get acceptable framerate at 4K :D. Borderlands 3 at 4K native with high settings runs at 115-140fps on my PC, but here I would need to use probably 1440p, and still enable DLSS + FGx2 to get over 100fps.

Yeah performance mode and 4x frame gen lol. The numbers are basically entirely useless. Gg nvidia

What the fuck is the engine even doing? I've seen videos of it from PC and it doesn't even look that great.
To be honest at first glance, Borderlands 4's graphics look comparable to Borderlands 3's, but it requires eight times more hardware resources to achieve the same frame rate. I don't think the Borderlands art style benefit from real-time GI, even though the Borderlands games use a dynamic TOD.

I will wait for the user benchmarks before making a buying decision. However, if it will be impossible to achieve 4K DLSS performance at 60 fps on my current PC even with tweaked settings, I will probably wait for the RTX 6080 before playing Borderlands 4.

I've cancelled my PS5 preorder, reviews only dropping on release day is often a bad sign. I'll wait to see how the game runs on the PS5 Pro and hear players impressions first.

Sometimes yes, but i'm holding out hope that this one is better than 3 and don't want to miss out on the preorder bonuses if i'm actually gonna be spending tons of time playing this with my wife.

You Should hit 60 there but we all know thats best case. Love to see the 1% lows.

Don't forget the stutter on top. This is one of those games that i might actually but on console to save the hassle.

Considering i'm not paying extra for the skins, just paying before the release date then yes...

I want the bonus items if i'm going to be spending a whole lotta time playing this game.
I think its prudent to wait to see how this runs before parting with any cash personally. I'd rather regret not having these forgettable skins than owning a turd.

You can always get the pre order bonuses off a key site after launch for a nominal cost should you wish.

I guess if you are on console then performance is less of a worry but still. They are hiding something here with glowing paid for previews and no reviews. Wait for Gaf impressions or at least Karak Karak or Skillup would be my recommendation.

Yeah now I'm just wondering what they're hiding. It's got to be something. Poor performance (perhaps fixed by day 1 patch)? Or maybe trying to avoid some "Bharv" memes going around on launch day?

They changed the review embargo from today to release date? Not a good sign yikes .. should I keep my ps5 order for 45 euros?

I saw some gameplay and it looks pretty decent, it's Borderlands, might be because of serious performance issues, the boys get riled up by that shit.

I would put this on hold, the PS5 barely meets their minimum requirement for the game and if this has 60 fps mode you can expect extremely low res with aggressive upscaling, something like Wu Chang or even worse.

Reviews are dropping the day before release day technically. A few people played on based ps5 already and reported that it was over 60 fps in performance mode but that Fidelity mode was around 40 fps but dropping to below 30 fps. This is without day 1 patch.

Yeah I've watched several previews and I thought the game looks good. But obviously they decided review embargo until release date was to their advantage for some reason.

Christ - I have a 5090 9800x3d but that performance doesn't look good even if it is everything dialled to the right.

Will do the normal UE5 settings:

Shadows: High
Lumen: High
Motion Blur: Off
CA: Off

Lumen is a real killer on hardware compared to Snowdrop, Anivl and Id tech 8 - I guess it's to do with fundamental design philosophies. Those other engines were designed from the ground up to support it via Hardware. UE5 Lumen is still that traditional raster base and doesn't scale at all well as it hammers the cuda cores, not the RT cores.

Just got around to watching the Borderlands 4 Clueless Gamer. That was brutal. Wasn't even Conan sucking while being funny. It was flat out making the game look lame, enemies didn't move, called claptrap annoying, the game crashed on them. etc.

That's significantly worse than Tiny Tina. I hope the visual difference is notable then, cause what's the point of using UE5 otherwise? In Tiny Tina I went for resolution mode and it's 60fps most of the time. A dip here and there but nothing severe.

Claptrap has his own volume slider now, so you can selectively mute him. That's a good sign that they've listened to feedback.

I'm optimistic that the game will be great. Not long now.

I think it'll be great if you're into more borderlands. I don't know what they did for the version Conan played, but the enemies literally just stood there getting shot.
It looked like they were all bugged out, like stuck in the environment or something. It's like they had him play it beyond easy mode.

There are copies out in the wild and a stream this morning streaming on PS5 that was swiftly taken down. Word thru the grapevine is PS5 performance looked fine. We shall see soon but for those worried about console performance there is hope! It might not be all bad.

BL3 console launch performance was abysmal iirc. Hopefully that isn't the case this time. They did eventually get it sorted out but it was not before I was completely done with the game. Months later I came back and it was good then. Also hearing that the game is more difficult which matches with what Randy said he was worried about and also my expectations of the game. Hopefully they have cooked. I don't think anyone can stand another mediocre entry.

I think after BL3 they have to make BL4 a good entry. Given how bad BL3 was when it's only saving grace was gameplay.
