Borderlands 4 |OT| It's about time. Literally.

Game seems fun, but my main complaint is I can't fucking play more than 10 min without crashing on a 5090FE/9800X3D. The patch from the other day did absolutely nothing for me in minimizing them. All Unreal Engine crash to desktop. I always send and close the reports too but if anyone has found a method that helped get rid of the crashing please let me know. I tried increasing the shader cache in the NV control panel but the game crashed when loading in lol so that didn't help.
Same specs as you. I had the same symptoms and I fixed it by clearing the shader cache. It started happening again after the latest patch, this time I just rebooted my PC and I haven't seen any crashes yesterday or today 🤷‍♂️

Do you unlock new vehicles via side quests? And does the damage of your vehicle weaponry get better? Because I don't do a lot of damage to those flying creatures or enemies in general for that matter.

I'm not sure how this game is getting the scores it's getting from reviewers if it has serious technical issues on all platforms.

Hopefully this will solve the crashing issue for some of you with 5090 cards.

If you own an NVIDIA RTX 5080 or RTX 5090, you have definitely faced some crash issues in Borderlands 4.
I'm using a 5090 FE with the 581.29 driver and never had a single crash for now 🤷‍♂️
So "definitely", no.

I'm using an Intel CPU, maybe that's the reason as many seems to have issues with AMD CPUs.

It seems they have fixed HDR on Xbox, the colours aren't so ridiculously muted anymore, I do think colors still are better in SDR but it's much improved.

But other small bugs appeared too. When I open lockers and boxes I hear no sound of that happening, not the end of the world. More annoying is the bug where you mark weapons as junk in your inventory and it marks the item above it as junk instead.

That's great to read. I've been playing with HDR off because it's so dim and dark looking for no reason. I was perplexed that the HDR brightness only goes up to 1000 nits.

I could swear this was fine pre-patch, but now when I go to inventory, equipment and I want to select guns for the four slots I only see a few weapons visible. Then I go into my backpack and I see tons of guns that were not visible to equip in the equipment menu. Anyone else having this too? Now I can only equip these weapons via the backpack menu.

Yes side quests and other things on the world map like bunkers and stuff give you more vehicles. I didn't look at how much damage they do though.

Me and a friend had a really weird glitch happen yesterday, we entered one of the vaults, got to the boss at the end, and it suddenly warped us both out of the vault and back to the open world map, when we entered the vault again it let us skip the entire vault by just running to each jump pad, then when we got to the boss room it wasn't there, just an empty room

Fast travelled back to the start of the vault, got to the boss room again and it appeared as normal

Then, when we killed the boss, the portal to the rewards room spawned for my friend and not for me, fast travelled to my friend and all the reward chests would open for me :messenger_sad_relieved:

Do they give you different weapons? I have a couple vehicles unlocked and as far as I can tell they're just skins, with the same 2 weapons

I've had plenty of bosses from either sidequests or random dungeons drop legendary weapons
I'm talking about vehicle weapons.
All of the vehicles have the same two sucky machine guns / pea shooters
:( that really sucks. I enjoyed unlocking the various vehicle types/upgrades in BL3. I'm surprised they downgraded it so much in BL4, it would've been perfect for the open world.

Maybe this will come with one of the expansions.

Scroll up and you should see them

6 hours in. I'm shocked the writing in the side quests is so good in this game. Nothing cringy yet. The open world is fun to explore there's little secrets everywhere and the shooting itself is better than ever in my opinion. I like the guns that turn into grenades when you reload.

Yeah, i like those too, I'm playing BL3 right now and those guns you throw at enemies are really nice when you reload.

There are all sorts of gremlins in the inventory. For me, the weapons do not show up for 5 to 10 seconds. I have to wait before equipping anything.

I also think accessing the inventory initiates the overall memory leak and performance degradation.

Loving the game, but it's buggy as shit.

I'm genuinely enjoying this. I wouldn't say I'm a huge Borderlands fan, but I did play through B3 and thought it was alright - ironically enough, it was the performance of that one that got to me more than the story ever did, but that's not the case for me here. It definitely should be running better than it does and needs to be improved (and hopefully can be), but in general, all I ever ask for is 1440p at a solid 60fps with most graphical bells and whistles enabled, and I'm getting that here on a 4070 Super and 17-12700 (and then some, thanks to a really well-implemented framegen).

So yeah, B4 has its hooks in me right now. It just scratches that itch, starting with its super satisfying gunplay. I'm getting Destiny vibes from this (in a good way), particularly now with the double jump, jetpack floating and sparrow thingy, all in an open world.

If I had to criticize anything, it would be the following;
  • UI is pretty clunky and bug-ridden - it will mark a different item for deletion than the one you've selected, there's no default sorting (it always goes back to "By Manufacturer"), cosmetics lists have no sorting at all. I only mention this first because you basically live in the gear menu in a game like this, so these issues become pretty glaring.
  • Navigation kinda stinks - a mini-map would be nice, but even moreso would be an accurate marker tracker. It leads me into a wall way too often. Also, what's the point of having the tracker time out and be on cooldown? It's just not fun having to go back into the map so often to figure out where I'm going.
  • This is likely a personal thing, while I wouldn't describe it as being difficult, it does become a bit "much" at times even on Normal. I'll be trying to clear marks on the map on something seemingly trivial like a Propaganda Speaker and next thing I know, I'm fighting for my life dealing with wave after wave. I'm an old man just trying to chill and shoot some shit here lol. This may just be a gear check though and my current gear at level 15 admittedly is trash.
That aside, the game is pretty damn great. The story is moving along nicely and the few side quests I've done have been really impressive. There was one involving a missile that was surprisingly poignant and makes me look forward to what the others have to offer. It's a shame that all conversations about this game lead back to performance (though understandably so, for the most part), as there's a lot to like here.
