Brandon Sanderson - The Cosmere |OT| there's always another secret...

Dude needs to stop writing so many books and finish Stormlight 3 dammit. I needs it.

Brandon Sanderson's idea of taking a day off to recharge his batteries is writing a different book. I've never seen an author who can write like he does nonstop.

White Sand soon all!

Not just write, but write extremely well at that.

I mean, how does he even keep all the different worlds and magic systems apart while writing three books simultaneously?

I've been holding off on re-reading WoK and WoR until about a month before Stormlight #3 comes, and seriously I cannot wait.

I want to transition right from WoR into #3 ideally to retain as much info as possible and hopefully catch details I missed the first times around.

I may even take a few days off to just devour the book and I can't wait.

If I'm not mistaken I believe he invests a great deal of time on outlines and his assistant(s) help quite a bit with continuity as well.

I was able to see Sanderson at his panel at the Phoenix Comicon a few weeks ago. The guy is such a huge nerd. He gets just as excited about what happens to his characters as we do.

I was working the event so I had little time to experience it all, but my roommate was able to talk to him for a few moments and said hes a really cool dude.

I rode an elevator at the hotel we were staying at with him too and he was just super nice to everyone.

I will support this man till the day either of us dies.

So many things going on it's preventing me from finishing Warbreaker. That book continues to be awesome, some good mysteries going on and the role reversals are a nice touch.
I've also been listening to Way of Kings, since I spend so much time in my car, and it's also great... epic. So far Dalinar is my favorite character, guy's a badass.
I'm not sure how Sanderson can work so fast and keep up such quality, I'm impressed.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
I'm fiending for Stormlight Book 3, that progress bar doesn't move fast enough.

I read the Dalinar flashback chapter released last year, finally some flashbacks worth reading.

Hot damn. I need to finish Elantris.

Beyond excited for Edgedancer. Need more Stormlight goodness in my life.

Not a fan of the cover they went with though. A shame cause the shadows for silence/perfect state covers were ace

Thanks I'm going to check it before out now

Indeed. The two voice actor is a awesome pair.

The two voice actors are Kate Reading and Michael Kramer, fantastic narrators and married couple. They're my favorite narration team by a country mile. Literally anything they do is assured to be awesome. Sanderson uses them almost exclusively.

Ah, misread and thought it was a newer work similar to his other non graphic novel books.

My bad.

It is a new work of sorts.

White Sands is a novel that he wrote about the same time as Elantris and never published it. You could get a PDF copy by request, but I'm not sure if he's still doing that because of this publication.

The version used in the graphic novels was re-written 4 years later.

The graphic novel is 160 pages because the book is split into 3 parts with each part planned to release a year apart.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
It's a graphic novel. While it is a bit high, not unheard of.

I've paid more for less, but honestly, with graphic novels, the ones I bought haven't been hardback.

Reviews on Amazon are interesting. Seem some folks don't think Sanderson translates well to the graphic novel medium. But I'm not sure what type of story these folks were expecting.

It's also only the first third of the novel, it's going to suffer from being split up.

Probably comes from being adapted by another writer.

BUT it's a new completely canon Cosmere work, so clearly it must be read, regardless.

Didn't know they were married. Cool.

The Kickstarter just got 150k. Good stuff.

They also managed EU friendly shipping, without import costs, too.

Also:
Finished the next big chunk of Stormlight 3, formally completing Part Two (of five, though part five will be short.) Looking good so far!

Finished the Mistborn Trilogy. Oh boy, that ending, so good, so perfect. Absolutely stellar how everything came together.

Can't wait to get into Alloy of Law.

Hulk SMASH!
That was probably my favorite part of the mistborn ending.

The Allow of Law series is really good, but you are going to lose your crap when you get to Secret History after the third Alloy book. Also, Team Steris ftw.

So glad to have found this thread. :)

I haven't read *any* of his work yet, but I just bought The Way of Kings.

Should I buy and read Mistborn first, then?

The Way of the Kings and Mistborn are set in different universes, you can read them in any order you want. Both are great, but are made with different styles. Mistborn books are shorter and more intense, while Stormlight books are much larger [page count wise], detailed and with slower pacing.

I've read Way of the Kings before I threw myself into Mistborn.

You can just dive into TWOK.

But if you prefer starting with a completed series, pick up the Mistborn trilogy.

Mistborn 1 is IMO also very standalone, it has satisfying end with just few hints about unresolved events. That could be great starting point for someone who just want to read great book from Sanderson.

Ive only read the first Mistborn trilogy (I liked the first one, thought the other two were alright). Is the second series any better?

I've wanted to read Stormlight for a while, everyone has told me it's really good, but I also get the impression it's going to be a long time before it finishes so I'll probly wait till there's more of it

It will have ten books, divided in two saga's of five each. Third book of the first comes out early next year. Sanderson is no GRRM so the wait is not that bad.

Was looking at everything he's written so far, timeline wise... The guy writes a hell of a lot all year 'round. Most impressive.

When I started heavily reading modern fantasy (2012 I think) there was only 1 book, now it's two. That's roughly a book every three years, it's still gonna be a while.

Oh well Gardens of the Moon is on my shelf already so I guess I'll work through that series first

I'm about to go on vacation and I'm bringing my kindle along... and it is finally time to get into some Sanderson. Do you all think Mistborn book 1 is a good start? Or something else?
