definitely. makes Walt out to be a much more sympathetic character, maybe you were right about that chap!

Yup. I don't know how Jesse would find out about Brock and Jane yet, but I have to figure the writers will find a way
Jesse will be looking at some overhead satellite footage of his next big bust with his captain when he'll notice something out of the corner of his eye. With some CSI-style enhancements, he'll zoom into Walt's backyard right onto the fiendish plant.

And then it's on.

His performance as Tio is so believable I'm not even sure people realize he is acting. I know I forget he's just an actor when he's doing his thing, even with that flashback showing him walking around all normal. It's completely natural, he just blends in.
Yeah, he's one goddamn hell of an actor. I almost consider this episode his episode. Definitely partially his episode. The man's performance really addressed the idea of death/moments before life ending. The music that starts to play when Gus is parked outside the nursing home with his men also helped a ton. Great ear the BB music team has.

This show has the best cast and crew ever in the history of television dramas imo.

what a nice guy. i wish i could invite him over for dinner! ;)

Seriously, if he just gave up an turned himself in, it would not be a show. He makes some bad choices, there is blowback on him and his family. Repeat. But he has to remain somewhat sympathetic to be a viable character.

Perhaps you should back away from the keyboard, and go pet your dog or get a soda or something.

Rewatching this Gus video,

I had a thought - Gilligan has a thing for clothes on this show, very particular.

You guys notice how Gus is always wearing bright colors when he is being inconspicuous Gus, sometimes even with a streak of dark on them (Purple tie on yellow shirt), where as when he is Drug Dealer Gus, he is always wearing Dark tones? And when he is at home with Walt or Jesse, he's wearing a blander mix of the two (with Walt, it's a brown, Jesse an even darker color)?

Something to reflect on when you rewatch him change out of his Los Pollos clip on tie again and wonder how deliberate that shot is.
I couldn't help but notice that Walt was wearing a green shirt for the first time in a while in the final two episodes. That used to sort of be "his" color earlier in the series, but I don't think he wore it much at all this season.

To defend Walt on the old neighbor thing, He probably knew that Gus's men wouldn't kill some old lady. That would bring to much attention.. But on the other hand, Walt did set off a bomb in a nursing home..

First of all, he is not sympathetic at all nor is sympathy a requirement for a 'viable character.' Vince Gilligan, the shows creator, certainly believes we are long past the sympathy point for Walt. But of course he only helps write the show, what would he know? it's all interpretation now!

Anyway the mere thought that a character needs to be 'sympathetic' to be viable is disgusting and a stifling limitation on creativity: some of the best written characters in history are completely unsympathetic. If you require that, you most certainly require it on your own terms. Don't bother applying such absurd standards on the rest of us. I certainly don't need to be coddled to enjoy television or literature.

Finally, none of my comments at all suggest he should turn himself in. I think the show must end with him dying or getting caught, but that's at the end of the show. My comments merely suggest that it's time people accept Walt for the completely unsympathetic monster he is. And I love every second of it, it is the very thing that makes the show compelling.

Now, why don't YOU go grab a soda or pet your dog: you're clearly the only one upset here. I am loving every second of the 'Walt is sympathetic' crowd going up in flames. It's a magical moment and so, so much fun :D

To be fair to the character, there still a glint of good guy in there. His relief after hearing brock was fine.

Granted, it's just "I didn't actually kill him, just attempted killing him" relief.

only insomuch as he lucked out and that incidentally is a relief; he was surely willing to accept Brock's death if that is what it took to save his own ass.

That's like saying someone who tries to kill someone but has a breather when he realizes he only seriously injured the person is a 'good guy.' Sure, he's probably happy a kid didn't die because it's a kid. But he certainly didn't care enough to not roll that dice. He rolled the dice with the full knowledge that the kid COULD die, just like sending the old lady - no matter how he justified it with his internal logic - meant the old lady COULD die, even if only accidentally.

Old people are an unproductive drain on the economy.
How much do you think that nurse and the shuttle bus with the wheelchair lift cost taxpayers?

Yeah, I edited. It's still a little sliver of humanity.

Anyone else think Tyrus is alive? I think there's a reallllly good chance he caught onto the bomb, especially when the old lady was yelling to Walt. and that's why he was standing by the window when it went off. He barely got away just in time.

I think the third person who died was the old lady next door and not Tyrus.

So yeah, definitely the best run of the series, and possibly the best season.

Let the Emmys wash over them all. Heck, get that freakin bell an Emmy.

To be fair, Cranston himself is a part of this crowd (though I know it's likely an acting technique). Walter White might be a deplorable human being, but he still has sympathetic and relatable moments, and it makes sense that some audience members would latch onto these moments in hope that it's these moments, and not the morally bankrupt ones, that define the character.

I agree. This is what Tyrus will look like next season..

I noticed that too. I don't remember when he was first wearing it again, but it seemed symbolic of not being under Gus' thumb anymore. Back to the way things used to be. And the scene with Walt and Jesse burning down the super lab sort of reminded me how "fun" the show was in the early seasons before they had someone to answer to. In that regard I'm looking forward to season 5 a lot. Season 4 had to follow a certain trajectory that ended with Gus' death. Next season has a lot of room to explore different elements/dynamics now that he is gone.

I really came to like Gus' character, but the death of him and the superlab is as much a weight off the show's shoulders as it is Walt's and Jesse's.

The absolute dread and depression of the first half of this season are what makes that possible too. Just brilliant pacing.

I love that this finale works regardless if there's another season or not. Obviously there will be, but just in case you can tell Gilligan planned the ending that way.

My guess: its to imply Jesse knows it was Walt.

Otherwise they would have.

The Los Polos Hermanos thing in the car, was that Gus' car? Or was that Mike's? Or some character we don't even know yet?

Well I'm bailing out already because people post giant ass pictures I don't want to see anything about.

Didn't get this on TiVo and it's not on the inter webs.

Damn. Will watch tomorrow.

Boo you Comcast.

Oh I thought that was the sickest thing ever. That shot? The reveal? Beautiful.

Especially thematically. You're first thought is "WHAT THE FUCK he is a FUCKING ROBOT" and then pan around.

All too human.
It was seriously well done. They had me for a second. A far-fetched but satisfying payoff.

Now that I think about it this is the only season to have ended on an optimistic note.
Most likely a cathartic moment of victory before things get tragic as fuck.

Walt is his own worst enemy. If one of his many past sins doesn't directly lead to his ultimate downfall, then his crippling hubris will surely find a way later on. It's pure, delicious self destruction from here on out... and he totally deserves whatever's coming to him.
