I finished rewatching "Live Free or Die and in the opening I remembered that Walt was using a fake ID at the restaurant. I wonder if this means he's forced to use the "endgame" guy Saul was telling him about in Season 4.

so, I started to watch season 1 of breaking bad. Got to say, i can't really see why people hate skylar. So far, she's been acting like what any sane wife would act. keep in mind, I just watched the first 3-4 episodes.

Mostly she's a bad actor that makes the character uninteresting. Then she got too much screen time over Jesse in S5. Also, her actions may be logical, but it's too reactionary. Test: Imagine a character centric episode with any other major character and it wouldn't be boring.

Skylar to me just doesn't have an attractive, likeable personality. Not bad, just a little boring. Even when she was hot and heavy for Ted, she mainly just used overly sexual gestures to get his attention. (The again she just wanted sex...so probably an useless example) Meh, then again, I guess we really wouldn't see a great, bubbly personality from a woman who seems to be suffering from depression (even before Walt went bad - my judgment) and a boring and eventually failed marriage. I think the actress is playing skylar just the way the writers want, though.

So wrong it hurts.

So does the bacon/Skyler theory contradict the "Walt says yes to whatever drink Hank get him" theory? That's throwing me for a loop, not sure what to make of the on the rocks scene now.

I can't stop laughing at all the parts where walt/jesse grabs crotch

WIPE DOWN THIS

TUG ON THIS

ESCALATE THIS

and my personal favorite...

I'VE GOT YOUR RESTRAINING ORDER RIGHT HERE. RESTRAIN THIS

the "wipe down this" taunt nearly had me spill my cereal laughing. Also, I like what walt did to the
ken wins car
in episode 4 of S1. badass.

I've just finished Crawl Space...

I still can't understand how Cranston could not win Emmy for the 4th season. His work throughout the entire season is outstanding.

I too just started a rewatch and I'm really trying to give Skylar the benefit of the doubt. However dressing down your husband like a puppy over $15 is not what a sane wife does."Waaalt, we don't use the mastercard....." *Stares sternly until her decree is acknowledged* Neither is going nuclear over a little weed, tracking down your husband's dealer, and threatening them with the wrath of the DEA. That Walt begs her to, "just this once", climb out of his ass implies she's been tirelessly rooting around up there for decades. It's a miracle Walt didn't have colon cancer.

Is Skylar a loving wife & mother? No question. The problem is sees her having absolute control and what's best for her family as being one in the same, and whenever that authority is challenged or questioned, even slightly, she responds by being childish or cuntish.

I agree with the Villigan that most if not all Skylar haters might just be misogynists.

Here is a very great article that explains why Skylar is a great character, and not a bitch.

Funny you bring up Vince's quote because he said that one time. His most recent answer was completely different so I wouldn't go by what he says as gospel.

Anyways, I just don't see why the Skylar non-haters can't just accept that people hate her. Everyone has different reasons (including her bad acting sometimes)... there isn't just one reason to hate her so you can't go labeling everyone as a misogynist. That argument is pretty weak. Just accept that LOTS of people hate Skylar and move on, even though you may like her. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion on all characters as everyone else. Heck, I've even heard people say that they don't like Jesse.

Of course, this Skylar discussion will never end and it is part of what makes BB interesting, but I think it drags on because the Skylar lovers won't give it up. Anytime someone new comes in to the BB discussion and gives their thoughts which include the usual "Skylar is a bitch" or "I hate Skylar" comments, they are immediately bombarded with the "Why you hate her? You misogynist?" questions.

On the card thing, it was a simple reminder, not an interrogation. You (naturally) have more sympathy for the guy for the scene that had just transpired. Also, as the family accountant, the emergency credit card is for emergencies only.

It's that the hate is so strong, and the notion is supposed to be taken at face value. It's not the "Skyler lovers" making an issue out of it, it's the out-of-scale hate.

Also, still don't see the bad acting.

People hate tv characters who are condescending, act smug or patronizing in any way.

We don't hate Gus, Hank or Mike because they don't act that way, despite being obstacles to Walt.

Besides, plenty of people hated this character for the exact reasons some hate Skyler.

Her decisions aren't what make her irritating to some, it's the way she speaks to people like they're idiots.

Besides, Skyler herself called her sister a bitch, plus a random woman she finished talking to over the phone, you wouldn't say she's a misogynist for using the word, right?

Gus wasn't smug or condescending?

I think part of the reason people hate Skyler is becuase she *is* a (low grade) bitch at first. She emasculates Walt in the early episodes. But it's pretty minor stuff. It does give people an initial impression that they build on, though.

Still, I find her a sympathetic character from the time Walk starts being missing for hours on end. Which is pretty much the beginning.

dave is ok

aztek is ok
mind = blown
I thought that was pretty obvious.

Not that it's his 'soul' or something, but the selling the Aztek was the final bit of transformation from the old Walt to Heisenberg. I mean he crashed it in 'Crawl Space', before Walt "dies" and is reborn as Heisenberg - along with a song called "We are born when we die"in the very next scene

No.

He was careful, collected and dominant. He always dealt with every situation appropriately, either explaining why he needed your help, or explaining why you were about to die like a hog.

He wasn't condescending, he just explained things in very simple terms so that you'd understand.

Although I guess he was too emotionless to be smug.

Gus was cold and reserved, he didn't talk down to people out of petty spite or vindictiveness.

And I found Skyler sympathetic from the get go because I thought her attitude towards people was due to how her sister would constantly put her down all the damn time, I actually felt sorry for her situation.

When her sister mellowed out though and Skyler's attitude remained, it was a bit grating. She became so much more enjoyable when she separated from Walt and from that moment on.

I hated Skyler at the start, and I hate her haters and fans. Can't tell which is worse, but, on a certain subreddit if you mention you hate Skyler you'll be downvoted to oblivion by the "SRS" for being a disgusting misogynistic. But anyways I dislike her at first because she's not likable, she doesn't have a charisma that other characters do. I still don't like her, she's sympathetic, she's a victim, but, she isn't a pure and innocent person.

Skyler was strong, and dominant. She wore the pants, not Walt. She was the head of the house, and Walt was her submissive husband. Skyler's word was law, and she was an authority figure that opposed the characters. Gradually the roles are reversed. Skyler became weaker because Walt became more dominant as he became more and more ruthless. Skylers authority was challenged, and she fought back. By S5 she realizes her husband is a ruthless killer and is horrified.

Just had this discussion at work...

Has Walt outright murdered anyone that is not a drug dealer or drug related criminal? By murdered, I mean he is directly responsible for their death (i.e. Walt pulls the trigger). Jesse is the one that killed Gale and Hector killed Gus (although Walt built the "gun" in that case, but still indirect). There has been enough discussion already about Walt's kill count including indirect deaths like Jane or the plane crash victims.

From our count at work, we have these direct deaths:
  1. Emilio - Gas, Self-Defense
  2. Krazy 8 - Strangled, Self-Defense
  3. Drug Dealer #1 - Run-over, To save Jesse
  4. Drug Dealer #2 - Run-over and shot, To save Jesse
  5. Drug Henchman #1 - Shot, To save Jesse and destroy lab
  6. Drug Henchman #2 - Shot, To save Jesse and destroy lab
  7. Mike - Shot, Murdered

Is there any more that we are missing?

By comparison, Jesse has only killed 2 people in the drug game. If Jesse had succeeded killing the 2 drug dealers before Walt saved him, it would actually be 4 kills for Jesse and 5 for Walt.

A lot of deaths , but Walt has gotten away relatively clean without getting his hands too dirty as he built his drug empire.

It will be interesting to see if Walt doubles his kill count (or more) in these last 8 episodes...

We'll see. I don't think Walt will kill that many people, if anyone IMO.
