It's just Walt reading the poem
Ozymandias
(also an episode title) with some timelapse New Mexico scenery, but some of the symbolism of what's to come is clearly noticeable.

Oh fuck. Chills down my spine. Alright I'm on media blackout.

Also, I'm glad I was able to hold off on getting the series box set if it has that bonus documentary.

Rewatching Season 2 Episode 12 - Never thought anything of the the scene where Walt makes sure Holly is lying on her side in case she spits something up and I just realised - doh!

About halfway through that teaser they start showing familiar settings from the show like Walt's house, the laundry, the motel parking lot, and then at :48 they show some big empty warehouse that looks like the one from that promo poster from last season where walt is sitting there with a huge pile of cash. Wonder what's going to be up with that place.

Wow, this show! I'm glad I stayed after episode one. I'm halfway through season two now. I kind of can't stop watching. It's so intense

Everything about this show is awesome.

Except Skyler.

Skyler is terrible.

incorrect, sky is a normal person trying to help an irrational, big-headed, deceitful man out to self-destruct and take his family down with him

Not that years of being neutered by a loving, yet imposing, overly emotional, melodramatic wife factored into Walt pushing so hard in the opposite direction. Do normal 40 year old women pout and/or revert to the silent treatment whenever they don't get their way?

Marie on the other hand is ridiculously adorable. A small glimmer of light on an show filled with darkness. Unlike Skylar her love and support don't come with the condition of complete control over everything. She, for example, allowed her husband to deal with his personal crisis as he saw fit. Even if that meant taking a back seat to his need for solitude. While not happy about it, she didn't take it as a betrayal that Hank didn't want to run thoughts & feelings he was trying to process by her first. No, she was understanding, supportive, and put another person's struggles ahead of her own ego. Love Marie.

When does Skylar ever do that? Took a lot more than simply "not getting her way" before Skyler ever started pouting.

Marie is awesome, but mainly in a kooky aunt type of way.

wat...are you saying skylar should have understood walt's sociopathy better?

Why are people hating Skyler instead of Marie I'll never know.

Marie is an annoying person who is too nosy and cant keep her mouth shut about anything.

Constantly. When Walt doesn't sleep next to her all night. When he says he doesn'twant to suffer though cancer. Anytime he stays out after dark. Whenever he doesn't feel like talking. It's constant, incessant , ass riding--even if it's from a mostly good place. Even Hank got attacked with a battle-ax when he tried to mend the bridge between Sky and Marie.

Jesse labeling Skylar "The ball-buster" based off one brief enocounter and seeing the stress in Walt's face when she calls was brilliant.

I'm saying that years of being emasculated and smothered obviously contributed to Walt becoming so deeply enveloped in the alpha persona that is Heisenberg and the rush of the criminal lifestyle.

That's not how it is presented at all, imo. At first they are a happy and healthy couple untiol cancer and secrets and a double life came in.
If anything, it's walter that is responsible for how Skyler is acting

Why do people use that as Sky defense? We, the audience, knows that Walt is a sociopath (or at least becomes one over time) but Skylar doesnt know that until way later. In the beggining all she knows is that Walt's been lying. The fact that he is a criminal comes up quite sometime afterwards. Infact even after that, all she knows is that he cooks meth. I would say the end of the fourth season is when she realizes Walt may be a stone cold killer. Or a sociopath.

But she is dislikeable almost right of the start of the series.

Walt says as much on a couple of occasions early on. And if by responsible you mean he stops being the floor mat he'd been for most of the relationship then , yeah, I suppose you're right.

Skylar sucks the fun out of this show.

Sky is a great character. I enjoy her in the same way I enjoy watching Hyenas feed. She has her flaws like everyone else and adds a lot to the show. Seeing Walt simultaneously work for and against her is amazing to watch, especially early in the series.

Moments like Tuco kidnapping Walt were more impactful because we know that even if he overcomes this hurdle he'll still have to answer to Skyler. She's great at providing a constant underlying source of tension in that way.

so completely untrue.

skylar is probably one of the most necessary characters in the show.

Yep her interactions with Walt in season 5 part 1 were some of the best, and no skylar didn't realize he was a sociopath, but his behavior was enough to make anyone dislike him in a real life situation. And if we are talking about the backstory, walt let himself be bossed around by skylar. Walt doesn't have any sympathy from me as a character and i bet if we ever get the details of the grey matter fallout he will be the asshole in that as well.I bet his ego was bruised so he ran away from the situation like a little child.

Walt is rarely at home. Walt basically says he wants to get it over with and accept death. Walt is always completely distant from her. And through all this she's dealing with a non-existent family budget and pregnancy hormones. Of course Skyler is going to be upset. Have you never had to live with a pregnant woman? Because compared to most, Skylar is reasonable to an unreal degree.

Why does this matter? The writers can change the back story of Walt as much as they want now, but from the beginning of the show, it was obvious that Walt was originally a good guy. Before Heisenberg, his son loved him and so did his wife (when she wasn't being controlling to him). I think the first season made this obvious.

This "was Walt a bad guy before the cancer" discussion is silly. I have heard responses from the writers/actors that range from "everyone has a Heisenberg inside them and he will appear if the pieces fall in to place" to "Walt was always Heisenberg, the cancer just brought it out". I would rather they leave this open than try to suddenly say that Walt was always a bad guy.

There are different shades to characters. He could have been a complete asshole before the show started and still cared for his family. Also sociopaths can seem as nice as anyone. I agree the writers can do whatever they want with Walt's backstory, i just don't buy the idea that Walt was just a good person who was driven by a controlling wife into the egomaniac he was even in the first season. So no I still dont understand disliking Skylar for how she has treated walt during the series. I still understand arguments about her being one of the least interesting characters even if i disagree
