Does this have to do with Tariffs? I'm already seeing people on ResetEra blame that and Trump.
Effective immediately. When does this go into effect?
Bro that PS5 Pro purchase has been paying in spades.
I think they will follow suit. They are very exposed on this retarded tariff policy. Same as most other gaming HW businesses.
XSX at $599.99 is CRAZY considering the PS5 Pro exists.
I just disagree that they are partially footing it at those kinds of tariffs. Would make infinitely more sense to stop shipping the consoles to the US until a deal is reached. That's why i've said they are partially footing it, because companies are expecting some deal to happen before the worst case scenario.
Fantastic news, finally factoring in the cost of quality and publisher excellence to the RRP, about time. Well done MS!![]()

I want to see an increase just to see how high that price goes.Imagine how much PS5 Pro will be bumped.
Because companies feel that completely stalling up instead of having a month loss is much worse outcome, they could also be doing some tricks to not get the whole bill though, but some companies like 8bitdo and a game publisher suspended sales operations to USA until the situation is solved.I just disagree that they are partially footing it at those kinds of tariffs. I suppose it is possible they aren't actually sending any additional stock and are just raising the prices of stock currently in the US for the time being.
If you've forgotten that most electronics and electronic components were exempted from the reciprocal tariffs back on April 12 and want to keep licking the boot of greed, that's on you.
With these consoles made in China, if it was caused by tariffs, it would've been much more expensive thoughTariffs aren't making the hardware this much more expensive
Easy. You'll choke on it.Fantastic news, finally factoring in the cost of quality and publisher excellence to the RRP, about time. Well done MS!![]()

Every once in a while a shit decade comes along. I've been said things won't get better until the 2030's.I have the impression that our lives went downhill from the Pandemic onwards and things will only get worse and worse.
Prices are increasing worldwide, products are getting worse, quality of life is decreasing, people are overall unhappy and easy to anger.
The 2020s is turning out to be a nightmare of a decade.
I would imagine a company like MS has more capacity to plan for this stuff in advance and to be able to pay storage fees for a ton of extra consoles sitting in warehouses. Higher prices would mean their inventory in the states would last longer too as sales slow down. A company like 8bitdo doesn't have the funds lying around to order a huge batch of products in advance to prepare for this sort of thing.Because companies feel that completely stalling up instead of having a month loss is much worse outcome, they could also be doing some tricks to not get the whole bill though, but some companies like 8bitdo and a game publisher suspended sales operations to USA until the situation is solved.
Maybe my $150 Series S purchase can be traded in for a profit?!?!?
True, luckily the PC I own is probably even better then Xbox Series 2 and PS6, so I'm set for a bit. It's not like PC's haven't been affected. Long gone are the days when you could get really good cheap parts for the PC .
It's happened for almost everything from cars to food, to broadband, to the price of going to see a band at a concert
I think paying more than £70 is terrible, so bad for any real meaningful growth in the AAA game industry
Micrishaft is supposed to be supporting this console by paying for part of it.
Speaks a lot about the current worldwide economy and the rise of manufacturing costs. I am definitely not surprised though.
Yes that's very possible, having to bring a much bigger inventory and pay higher and longer standing storage fees and etc, some trickery in last case, and all rooted in the tariff hike. I don't like doom posting but regardless of what console someone is reading wants, they might as well do it fast before it spreads.I would imagine a company like MS has more capacity to plan for this stuff in advance and to be able to pay storage fees for a ton of extra consoles sitting in warehouses. According to the blurb it was due to rising cost of development and market conditions. So maybe in part. Nintendo also said their prices weren't tariff related. I doubt these prices ever go down even if tariffs go away so this is Microsoft now.Does this have to do with Tariffs? I'm already seeing people on ResetEra blame that and Trump.
Holy fucking shitballs!
This is insane. RIP Microsoft console gaming. Its absolutely dead after this. What is happening in the world.
Switch 2 looking like a bargain. ( i kid)
I mean, they said in 2020 that the Series X was it's "mid-generation refresh / pro console", released early. We all knew it was bullshit at the time, but now they're literally going to be competing on a somewhat level playing field price wise.xsx 2tb for 729 makes ps5 pro looks like bargain![]()
And certainly Xbox's increases were much easier for them to justify and put out there after Nintendo's announced plans to increase prices across the board for their new platform generation. No doubt it gave them quite a bit of cover. You can't blame Xbox when Sony did this a couple years ago, is likely to do so again given the tariff situation, AND Nintendo (traditionally lower cost than their competitors) are also going high and basically matching Xbox and PS pricing.I'm not okay with any of the platform holders when they raise software prices, no matter who did it first (Sony, Nintendo, or MS). I edited the post out since it's not fair to just single out one platform holder when evidently they are all doing it.
I'm already at the funeral!Already seeing the usual cacophony of "lol tariffs" on socials. Looks like tariffs will be the new corporate excuse for greed. Tariffs aren't making the hardware this much more expensive, and it certainly isn't a justification for raising game prices.
This is Microsoft (probably intentionally) putting the final nail in their hardware coffin and following Nintendo's new pricing model as a publisher.
2TB version being more expensive than PS5pro is... uh... a bold strategy, I guess.
Trump level business moves right here.
