Assuming this is true, it's downright unacceptable. They shove the console version down our throats (what appears to be console at least) in every video they show off, and then they give us this shit?

Why even bother developing a console version if you can't get it to run properly?

Oh ho ho ho! Welcome to the world us PC Gamers face with every single console port.

What's the big deal about a day one patch? You're going to play online anyway. There will be patches/updates as the game moves forward. Stop trippin' out.

I been telling you guys about tech 4 man...the only reason I am apprehensive about this game. Horrible engine. They should have just delayed it for tech 5. =(
I don't know that it's the engine, per se. tech 4 can run at 60fps on integrated graphics and still look decent. It just wasn't made with the consoles in mind.

"Like people hated Quake Wars because it wasn't Battlefield, people will hate Brink because it's not Shadowrun! SD just can't catch a break."

I hated Quake Wars because it felt kind of off and I loved W:ET.

That said, not enough people played Shadowrun (and deservedly so) for that to happen with Brink.

Going from iron sight to hip, twice in a row. Watch the glove particularly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhfwV9fSGxw#t=1m32s

That's a minor example but its stands out pretty well in other vids (not gonna bother looking now), enough that I noticed. Reminds me of Borderlands.

Ok that's a lot more subtle than I was expecting, but I do see it in that spot. I had just watched that video looking for it and didn't notice so I don't think that would bother me.

even though it doesn't look or feel like any tech 4 title?

i wouldn't have ever guessed it was running on that ancient tech. hell it looks better than most ue3 titles. props to them.

I'm seriously overhyping myself here
I would have never expected it. To support your false hope though: a lot of games where it was inherent to the engine remove it by crippling the player as they land, which is not an option in Brink.

You probably got into the game too late to really enjoy it. Shadowrun was never an accessible game, and I can't imagine fighting the super hardcore crowd making things better.

My favorite multiplayer in a FPS easily.

Hearing that Brink shares similarities with Shadowrun has me interested but given the Portal Kombat pricing nonsense I think I'll wait a week and buy it for half price.

Well having not played it yet I won't make a judgment all I'm saying it was the only thing worrying me about this game. I hope my fears are unfounded though.

"That's a bit harsh..."

I dunno. For comparison's sake, I got the complete Age of Empires III collection like a week earlier for 10 cents.

When you've played a lot of KZ2/KZ3/UC2, from an animation point of view, Brink actually hurts my brain a bit. I really, REALLY hate shoddy animation, no matter how sparse.

This seems like the type of game that if you are not there from day 1 multiplayer will seem impossible to get into because all the day 1ers will have decked out characters/ weapons, and will know the game inside and out. Sucks because by June this thing will be half price.

Subscribed. I'm very interested in this game, but wanna see how it does before I drop any money on it.

Still, I'm hyped.

God, streams would be clutch. Devs should stream non-story based parts of their games ramping up to release. Watching a stream for half a day convinced me to buy Borderlands at launch and I didn't even have anyone to play it with.

Well that's ok, you are just crazy.

Also speaking of ShadowRun, thats one of the main reasons I am getting this, it reminds me a bit of ShadowRun (which is still being played by a decent amount of people)

Not necessarily because you can also fight bots and get experience that way, every game mode allows you to level up and take that character and those unlocks and move them between each mode that you play.

What a silly statement
I can't think of a single game you wouldn't be able to get into a few weeks or months down the line. First of all there will always be other people also trying to get into it, not everyone gets good at the same speed and i doubt people who are good will ever be so good that won't be able to move an inch before dying if you're new. Also I think the matching system tries to prevent newbies to join people that are higher level, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, and you can choose to disable that if you want. Weapons are also not tied to your level but will be unlocked by you completing a set of challenges. And you can just grind your way through the levels in SP if you feel like it. Or you just act like a man and click the server with the best ping!

I still have time to make a swap for the PC version off Steam if need be, since this 360 stuff makes me a little wary. I do have a buncha buddies getting the 360 version, but honestly getting the best version of this game is more important to me than playing with them once in a while since odds are they'll abandon it pretty fast even if it is amazing.

decided to jump on it and pre-order it today. so hopefully any of the frame rate drops that were happening get fixed by the patch that comes out next tuesday.

Are there a lot of Gaffer's getting this on the PS3?

I'll be renting this through Gamefly for the PS3 although most likely not when it comes out since I returned my last game a little late so I might not be getting first shipment.

Day 1 Patch is odd but at least they are doing something and not just moving on. I am looking forward to playing with 360 GAF. Cannot wait for some team-based craziness. :D

The character customization in this game looks downright awesome. I'm considering it- to tide me over until L.A. Noire but I'm intrigued by the drop in/out combat. I'm not sure I understand exactly how this story mode works- if you begin a mission (but allow for online play), will bots be slowly replaced by human players? Would your objectives change?

If you make whatever level/mission you are on open then yes people will start getting matched into the game to replace the bots. The objective won't change, but sometimes sub-objectives pop up in some instances like if the mission required an engineer to get further and no one was playing one on your team, then it would give you a new sub objective to change to one to help your team go further.

Someone on here has the game, so maybe they can explain it 100% to clarify.

When I play the SP side of things, I think I will keep it locked. You could end up having it open and having really good players against you, which will make completing the mission an utter nightmare. :D

Indeed! I wonder if you fail the mission (because Human players on the opposing faction won), if the story progresses in some manner. That would be pretty awesome- the developer diaries mention narrative as a strong component of the game. It would be neat to see the story through multiple playthroughs (winning/losing certain missions etc.). And the inspiration for those level designs were intriguing (San Diego Airport, Brazilian favelas)!

Question. You can deck out your characters with 20 abilities, out of the total 58. They carry over across a class, so having, say, Battle Hardened, will apply to your Soldier as well as your Operative.

But they are tied to your character, right? If I want to make a specialised Soldier character with abilities suited to him and another specialised Engineer character, I would have to level both of them up apart from each other. And do you have to unlock the 58 abilities with challenges, or is the level requirement enough. And is respeccing with regards to abilties in the game?

Anyone?

I just saw a commercial for the game over on Gametrailers.com. :D

Seems things are ramping up for the game in the week before release with each day now having these new vidocs coming out to show off the game and more ads going out.

I was also worried about this patch, but then I realized DUH!, if they are patching it then this should fix those problems, and if it doesn't fully fix what it sets out to do, then I feel a follow up patch will be out the door quick.

Splash Damage looks super committed to making sure this game does not fail and garners a solid following, which I hope someday would lead to a Brink 2 if Brink is awesome as my brain is telling me it will be.

I am sure one of the Brink Videos said you would need to do the challenges to unlock stuff. As for your question, I have no idea. :D

It might be that you unlock all the abilities for general and class use. When you swap to another class, you set the abilities to the D-Pad. It is possible that you might have all the abilities running at one time, since I have not seen any that would cancel out others. Or it is buried in the game that you custom make the classes and it will pick from your choices when you swap class.

I checked the video again and when you change classes, you keep the same weapon sets. So it is possible that you have one main character but then he is split into the various classes that you have to gear up independently. Possibly doing the challenges as the different classes to get your unlocks.

If I remember right there are 8 character creation spaces. Each character has its own faction, size, and class level set up to it. If I'm right each class you level will start to unlock its own abilities, and then there are abilities that all classes share.

So if you were playing your light medic, but then wanted to swap to heavy soldier, you could go do that at a command post, and any abilities that you had set up on that heavy soldier character lay out will be there for you to use.

So yes you have to level Engineer to get Engineer stuff, and Soldier for Soldier stuff, etc, BUT once you have these things unlocked you can make multiple characters that are this class.

Say on some maps/missions you really like Light Engineer, but as it progresses you need to be a Heavy Engineer. You'd just swap to that heavy layout at the command post and it would go to that character's set up you had made before the game.

I'm not 100% if this is how it works, but it should be considering what I've seen and what Splash Damage has mentioned in interviews and videos.

Glad to hear its on TV as well then since I catch up on all my TV pretty much online.

Please be Jesus' second coming in videogame form. :( My hopes are so high. I'm not expecting that much though just: No game breaking bugs, solid and stable net code/matchmaking, and a balanced and fun game to keep coming back to.

More questions: Can you shoot from the hips accurately? If not, how much does iron sighting improve your accuracy? I really liked in KZ3 that you were nearly as accurate from the hip as you were from iron sight.

edit: Apparently you can. And you can disable mines. And do all kinds of stuff you can in ET. Awwwwsum

I so hope the netcode is solid. If anything could make or break Brink, it would be how the online plays.

I read somewhere that there are a group of people in the dev team that don't even aim with the iron sights. So i'm guessing firing from the hip in this game is pretty accurate.
