Honestly this is like Shadowrun all over again. Typical FPS plebians will skip over it leaving the hardcore audience to suffer through patches until it reaches perfect gaming bliss. Suits me!
Your right, I love when developers seemingly ship half broken games only to be fixed 6 months after release. Far from me being the consumer to expect some bases of quality in a pc game in 2011.

Based on initial impressions and the reviews, it looks like I will be skipping this one personally. Between L.A. Noire next week and my interest in the witcher 2, I just can't justify $60 on this.

Almost all of the low reviews and negative impressions state that the game has potential, but it's a bit of a mess right now.

They also point out the lack of maps, lobby, and seeming lack of "real" places to use the freerun ability.

Well today sure began sour for me (EU). Still have to wait till friday, but I hope some issues are fixed by then.

i played 1 match online and it seems pretty good and fun.

they need to iron out the framerate for sure. something isn't right in that department.

why oh why do i bother with pre orders. why haven't i learned?

This happens with most games developed by less prestigious developers that don't possess as much resources as AAA devs. Day one the game will have issues but I just wish all these reviewers actually updated their reviews a few months later. Just a separate score and review to see if it's still worth purchasing.

"SOmeone just install fraps and stop these stupid FPS speculations."

1) I have, shows a solid 60, but very obviously 30 fps. 2) There's also console command com_showfps 1, which also shows a constant 60 fps. And it's very obviously nowhere near 60 fps.

I'll be surprised if Brink is even half as good as Shadowrun. Not sure if I'm gonna give it a go or not. It looks way too team-focused (teamwork is good but not at the expense of everything else) and the whole game looks cluttered. Way too many objectives and such. The weapons and animations look a bit janky too.

I'm waiting for user opinions.

Now that's a wide range of scores...The PC problems have me a little worried since I hate lowering details for a game I shouldn't have to do that for.

Same here.

I'm not sure why I'm getting FPS issues on a 5970 (maybe poor Crossfire support?). It should definitely be running much smoother.

Otherwise fairly fun, albeit a bit tricky learning all the little nuances.

Not able to connect to servers yet........

Currently playing the campaign to get accustomed to the guns and level up.

And yes it is running locked at 30 fps.

Those reviews aren't piquing my interest. I'll wait for more GAF impressions to roll in, but it seems like a rental at this point.

Why is Brink not the #1 seller on Steam? It's showing up at 6th. That's really strange.
Sarcasm? It was 1st... earlier today I think. Everyone that wanted to pre-order has already pre-ordered, and these reviews probably aren't helping to attract new purchases.

Bought the game midnight at walmart, checked reviews on phone, promptly returned it.

From what I've seen, the positive outweighs the negative. There are currently more good reviews than bad ones. Unless you consider 7's bad? I dunno. Do as you wish I suppose. It's just insane hearing comments like this.

Strange...is the PC version supposed to receive a day one patch too? Cant really see we're getting bad performance since this is just an improved version of the DOOM 3 engine right?

EDIT: After restarting, the game did the "installing direct X" setup, so maybe thats what was going on...
I got the installing directx thing, but I'm still getting 20-24 fps most of the time, according to Fraps, with all MINIMUM settings. 1680x1050, e8400, ATI 5850.

If I could get a smooth 40 fps at minimum settings it might be more fun but it's just so janky right now. I'm using old ATI drivers, but someone else was talking about crashes or problems with newer ones, so I'm not going to try upgrading unless I hear good things.

How do you activate the console? I didn't find it yet.

I don't get it.

There are some people who say that executives getting bonuses for achieving a certain Metacritic score is dumb.

However, people shouldn't be shocked that companies use Metacritic as a metric for performance when a couple of bad scores spook people and have them drop their preorders almost instantly.

If LA Noire and Witcher 2 get bad reviews are you immediately going to skip them as well?

That happens when you're dropping 60 dollars on a game.

In retrospect its weird that they decided to release the game a week early.

LOL.

Wasn't it along the lines of "the game was finished and we wanted to get it into the hands of gamers ASAP"?

Is it time reviewers separate the scores for SP and MP? It seems in this case reviewers are focusing on that the SP is nearly nonexistent (shave a few points here and there) and the MP as of right now is terrible because... there aren't many human players (suprise, suprise). I'm getting a little deja vu from around the time Shadowrun released.

They didn't want to get Alan Wake'd.

(I loved Alan Wake but Red Dead Redemption hurt it..a lot.)

The pull-back was a smart move. Imagine these mediocre reviews while LA Noire receives praises and what not. At least Alan Wake was a well-respected game metacritic-wise.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE ATI HOTFIX. Apparently it causes the white line artifacts I was speaking of earlier. It makes the game look like every model has texture seams.

Verdict so far: Smart system is really fun to use and works well combined with manual jumps (even as a medium). Customization is cool, and some weapons have a pretty decent recoil (even visual) added to them, such as one of the pistols. The game isnt locked at 30, since in game it fluctuates between 20-30 for me, yet in the customization menu, it runs between 60-75 fps (via FRAPS measuring).

To anyone getting awful framerate with an ATI card.

Roll back your drivers. That hotfix only made it worse; the game is bearable for me now.

if you're using amd drivers, they released a patch literally a few hours ago to address so issues blink was having on their cards. could possibly be related to the blue tint of death.

edit: and the person above me suggests rolling back. ignore what i said possibly?

Uhh, if you're falling below 30 fps it's obviously not going to stay at 30 fps. Locked at 30 fps means it's not actually going to render (or whatever the technical term is in this case) more than 30 frames per second, even if it's very capable of doing so.

When I turn off V-sync, with everything maxed and ambient occlusion off, com_showfps says it's "doing" 170fps. But it is 100% 30.

At least make this shit an option in the fucking menu, because nobody wants it.

I'm getting a little worried about these performance issues on PC. I should exceed the minimum requirements just a tad but if people with recommended specs are having issues? I'm pretty much fucked right? :(
