So essentially the game seems to play well but is a bit broken at the moment?
I hate it when games come out like this. Granted, they are usually fixed within a few weeks, but a developer does not deserve full price funds from me for releasing something that isn't ready.
I'm probably going to pick this up down the track a little bit when things have been cleaned up a bit.
medium class seems really squishy. It's easy to run out of ammo.Shoogoo said:If they release a big ass patch within the first month (yeah I know, sucks) fixing all the technical issues, what could remain problematic for the game?
- still no lobby, since I guess they won't add this

Discotheque said:This game is fucking fun. There are framerate drops from time to time but this really is the next enemy territory for me. The objective wheel is quick and intuitive, you switch objectives really fast and keep going and then if you're bored with that one or want to switch it just takes half a second.
And playing with gaf people so far we've all been using teamwork like crazy (and we just jumped into the game really). Good stuff. Was surprised to see such low scores after I played this.
There are a few sound issues and framerate drops though. Needs to be patched.
Guns feel terrible, online lag is persistent even when it -looks- smooth. Grenades don't feel right, the SMART traversing system feels no different than if wall climbing in something like Black Ops was set to auto when sprinting. The maps are super cramped from what I've seen, which makes little sense as a design choice when they're pushing the acrobatic stuff so hard. Aside from all that, the characters look great. It feels like even with the delay this game needed more time in the oven.ColonialRaptor said:Please elaborate as to why you're not enjoying it?
Teknoman said:Performance issues (everything seems to stay under or at 30 during gameplay, 60+ in menus).
Odd graphical glitches (white lines for Radeon 4800 series users or some people having a title screen glitch where its just blue).

ColonialRaptor said:So which gfx card are you using?
Does anyone with a really beefy card have this game and is this happening for them as well?
Am I to understand that the game has been locked to 30fps then? Why would they do that? 30fps feels almost like slow mo in FPS's on PC especially when the frame rate moves around all the time.
I'm no expert on online console gaming(tm), but this is what SD had to say about it:Animator said:Not really feeling the game. Why is there no friend lobby/party system? You would think a mp only game would make it easy to play with your friends, not harder.
If you set up a custom game in Brink, it'll have what we call warm-up: a pre-match period that takes place in the actual map you're about to play. You can use warm-up to join the correct team and get ready for the match. Once everyone's connected in and set, you can select the Ready Up option and the match will get underway after a short countdown. Youre also able to define the minimum number of players required to be in the match before the ready up vote can start.
The Old Skool and Competition game types also have this warm-up functionality in them.
Fireteams are also in and present. If you join a friend's game via the friends list, you're automatically put into a fireteam together, with your own voice chat and special name colours on the hud. You can also invite people playing on your team into the fireteam.
It doesn't seem like it locked at 30, because there were a few times (mostly indoors) where I was getting 60fps. There has to be some sort of memory leak or something that is breaking shit.ColonialRaptor said:So which gfx card are you using?

Should be a server option. Is there no filter for bots?Nocebo said:Do empty slots always get filled with bots online? Is it a server option?

I can go around corners and go from 20 (or below) to 60 fps. Most of the time it's 20-30 fps on lowest settings. I finally turned textures back to high, and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Even on high textures were iffy though.darkressurection said:It doesn't seem like it locked at 30, because there were a few times (mostly indoors) where I was getting 60fps. The game seems like it has interesting concepts, though dying to shotguns in 1-2 hits constantly seems to be my current talent. I may have lost every single game I played in a 2-3 hour period tonight. I just want to know if anyone with an ATI card gets 40 fps or better, and if not, how do you play at 24 fps. XD

If it's like in Quake Wars then you can only create one once you're in a server, I think.legbone said:tell me if i'm mistaken, but doesn't this fireteam act like a party system then?
Teknoman said:..The true tragedy of this is that Brink is, by and large, utterly brilliant fun.
This to the maximum extent. Everything clicks, but its just little things (performance issues, odd glitches, etc.) thats taking it down in players eyes.
Teknoman said:The maps dont really feel cramped for me. Even as a medium, you have to take vertical space and different objects into account. Stay mobile like the tutorial woman says.
Discotheque said:did you play the 'challenge' modes yet? it lets you unlock a whole bunch of stuff.
How do you stay mobile and time any hits when you have 20 fps going? People move around too much between frames I'd think.Teknoman said:The key is staying mobile, use the slide and climb everywhere
People, PLEASE stop saying "locked" fps. It's horrible fps, but it's not locked. I'm getting the impression that ATI is worse than nVidia, or at least I haven't heard any ATI people getting 40 fps average.derFeef said:I wake up and first thing I hear is locked fps. WTF.
I dont care for reviews here, especially not Jeff's. I bet it is like "You have call of duty, so why should you play THIS game, which is different to COD"

- Meh framerate w/ 4890 at medium settings. Don't know if this is because it's capped or what, but it feels lower than it should be. Perhaps this is because it's capped at 30?
- Freerunning mechanic works well. Medium body type is pretty maneuverable.
- Solo campaign play is pretty tedious. Objective selection is good, but friendly AI is awful at actually flanking enemies, dodging mines/grenades, and helping you complete objectives. It's evident to me that anyone who reviews this game based on bot play would think it sucks.
- I think multi would be a lot of fun, but I wanted to get a feel for the mechanics in single player. Just hit level 7 and on level 4 of the resistance campaign.
- Tried to play with a friend in co-op but we couldn't get a game going. Not sure why.
