I like the taste of beer, or I used to. Then I realized that I was getting really shitty headaches within an hour of drinking beer almost every time. I think it's the yeast, because I have to watch how much of other yeasty products I consume, like bread, too.

Cider (usually) tastes good, gets me a nice level of drunk and doesn't give me shit headaches so there we are.

Good beer too. Dunno where in Germany your place is but it's easy to get by with very little of the language assuming it's in a reasonably sized city. Also, the Germans are good fun to socialise with.

Yes, I loved living in Germany and you could definitely get away with not knowing German for awhile, especially if you live near Army/Air Force bases. Good drinks, winefests, lovely lovely ladies, and generally amicable people.

Good luck with that Danj. Give it a go. I'm the hyper-anxious type too and what really helps me is if I'm tired, go to sleep. Spent too much of my life trying to stay awake beyond what was natural and ended up basically living on alcohol and adrenalin for years. For me what really helped was getting the hang of what my body likes - it likes getting up early in the morning and doing the ironing unfortunately, but I'm like a squeezed-out rabbit come early evening. Feel sleepy, go to sleep is a good starter.

Mike, sounds to me like you are doing better than OK. Certainly better than I was at your age.

Totally different story in my teenage years and the first couple of years of my 20s. I was obsessed with what people thought of me and set myself incredibly stupid social standards - everyone must like me, I must be interesting all the time, I have to be there for everyone, blah blah blah.
On top of that, the stupidest little things would prey on my mind - did I word something correctly in an essay?, did I word something correctly in a conversation I had today?, did I look like an idiot when this happened?, did EVERYONE find that funny?, they were laughing WITH me, right?, why am I constantly analysing myself?, does anyone else feel like this ever?

All ridiculous crap, but I don't really care anymore. At least, I don't care TOO MUCH anymore.

A lot of that is down to seeing a counselor to talk through my issues, but I also find meditating for 30 mins to an hour daily and practicing simple breathing exercises gives me time to sort through the petty thoughts and concerns then file them away or discard them entirely & that helps me to manage stress much more effectively.

We're probably going to do it again in the next couple of months, either in Portsmouth or Guildford/Aldershot. Maybe even arrange a trip to the Agincourt.
